PART A

Before you submit your assignment file, check that you did the following:

I answered all of the questions.

I showed my calculations, either by entering the calculations into the answer cell, or by using a
cell reference.
My written answers are clear and demonstrate that I understand the concepts underlying the
question and can apply critical thinking to statistical analysis and its interpretation.

PART B
Before you submit your assignment file, check that you did the following:

I checked all of my answers and have indicated all incorrect, partially incorrect, or incomplete

answers as in the instructions.

I did not change the contents of any of the answer cells from my Part A answers.
I used the Excel Review tools to annotate my (partially) incorrect or incomplete answers to
show that I understand my errors and/or omissions and know how to correct them.
My annotations demonstrate that I fully understand the concepts and have achieved the
learning outcomes underlying the questions.
At the top of each worksheet, I have indicated my level of understanding corresponding to the
questions on a scale of 1 to 10.

Production records indicate that in normal operation for a certain electronic component,
93% have no faults, 5% have one fault, and 2% have more than one fault. For a random
sample of 500 of these components from a week's output, 458 were found to have no
faults, 30 to have one fault, and 12 to have more than one fault. Test at the 5% level the
null hypothesis that the quality of the output from this week conforms to the usual
pattern.

LumberMart has been working on a plan for new store locations. In the city proposed for
expansion there are three possible locations: north, east, and west. From past
experience, the three major profit centres in the stores are tools, lumber and paint. In
seeking a location, the demand patterns in the different parts of the city were
considered important. A sampling study resulted in a table for the variables residential
location and product purchased by a random sample of households in the three major
residential areas of the city. Is there a difference in the demand patterns for the three
major items among the different areas of the city?

The district sales manager for a major automobile manufacturer is studying car sales.
Specifically, he would like to determine what factors affect the number of cars sold at a
dealership. To investigate, he randomly selects 12 dealers. from these dealers he
obtains the number of cars sold last month, the minutes of radio adverting purchased
last month, the number of full-time salespeople employed in the dealership, and
whether the dealer is located in the city. The data are shown below.
a. Find the estimated multiple regression equation using cars sold as the dependent
variable and other variables as independent variables.

b. Based on the equation from part a, what sales would you estimate for a
city dealership with 20 minutes of radio advertisiing and a sales force of 13?
