Experiment 1

Device Alignment

emitter

receiver

Construct the above circuit.

1.

Use IR LED (IR383) as emitter

Apply DC source 10 Volt.
Align your LEDs top side to phototransistors top side
Record DC value and waveform in node in and out.

NOTICE YOUR CHANNAL COUPLING MODE

Experiment 1

2.

Keep partial step 1 circuit and connect F.G to LED circuit.

Apply the following F.G. conditions:
Sine, f = 1 KHz, Vpp = 2 V, Voffset = 1 V
Align your LEDs top side to phototransistors top side
Record DC value and waveform in node Vs, in and out.

NOTICE YOUR CHANNAL COUPLING MODE

Experiment 1

3.

Keep step 2 circuit.

Apply the following F.G. conditions:
Sine, f = 1 KHz, Vpp = 2 V, Voffset = 3 V
Align your LEDs top side to phototransistors top side
Record DC value and waveform in node Vs, in and

out.

NOTICE YOUR CHANNAL COUPLING MODE

Experiment 1

4.

Keep step 3 circuit and all F.G. conditions.

Change IR LED to visible light LED
Align your LEDs top side to phototransistors top side
Record DC value and waveform in node Vs, in and

out.

NOTICE YOUR CHANNAL COUPLING MODE

Experiment 2

1.

Construct the above circuit.

R1=50 K variable resistor, Q1= 3904 NPN BJT

2.

Try to adjust R1 such that VCE is close to 5 Volt.

Record DC value of base, collector and emitter

3.

Apply the following F.G. conditions.

Sine, f = 1 KHz, Vpp = 20 mV
Record the waveform in node Vs and vin

Experiment 2

4.
5.
6.

Add capacitor C1.

Try to adjust R1 such that VCE is close to 5 Volt if
necessary.
Apply the following F.G. conditions.
Sine, f = 1 KHz, Vpp = 20 mV
Record the waveform in node Vs and vin

Experiment 3

1.

Construct the above circuit.

R1=50 K, R5=100 K variable resistor
Use IR LED and 3904 NPN BJT
Align your LEDs top side to phototransistors top side

2.
3.
4.

Adjust R1 such that Q2s VCE is close to 5 Volt.

Adjust R5 such that output waveform is not distorted.
Record DC value in Q2s base, collector and emitter and AC
waveform in node Vs, in, and out.

Experiment 3 (optional part)

Transmitter

5.

Receiver

Collaborate with your neighbor to complete this

part.
One person transmit some signal (e.g. sine, square,

etc.). Another one receive the signal using

oscilloscope.
Try to increase the distance between transmitter
and receiver. Find how far the system still works.
