Global Warming: A New Approach Is Imperative To Tackle It

With the Paris convention on global climate meet just round the corner world leaders must
be more affirmative about the changes they wish to bring about to tackle the growing
problem of global warming. With apprehensions about the world growing hotter by 2
degrees since the advent of the industrial revolution gaining ground, the likelihood of any
substantive improvement seems unlikely except with the invention of new innovative
techniques to tackle the problem. Governments around the world have spent far too much
trying to promote the use of renewable sources of energy. Despite such efforts ,any
significant changes to the current levels of emissions have failed to materialise. Its time the
governments thought of reworking their approach to the problem at hand.
New technology aimed at substantially reversing the effects of human intervention and
reckless use of fossil fuels is the need of the hour. They governments should incentivise
research into the field of development of new technical tools meant to deal with the issue
at hand. Unless such inventions are realised any perceptible change to the current
emission patterns and their effect on the environment seems unlikely. The governments
should work towards the common objective of minimising current emission levels while
continuing the hunt for innovative new technology.
setting up solar power plants, windmills and other renewable energy tapping equipment
involves a lot of expenditure and yields minimal returns . on the contrary the prospect of
research into new technology might for once seem to involve massive expenditures of the
kind of which the governments are unwilling to let loose, but the prospective benefits from
the development far outweigh the initial costs involved.
in the due course , poorer countries should find assistance from the richer ones in trying to
cut local emission levels down to the standard set globally. it is arguable however that
development comes at the cost of environment and the richer countries have already done
their part of damage to the environment and therefore are unworthy to ask for any whittling
down of the emissions on the part of local countries. the argument is plausible but
inherently flawed. the poorer countries must acknowledge the fact that new technology can
be employed to attain the dual objective of enhancing development while also ensuring
that the environment absorbs minimum impact.this only goes to reinforce the urgency with
which newer technologies need to be looked out for so that development doesn't come at
the cost of the environment.
Areas of development could include research into artificial sprays into the atmosphere that
reflect sunlight better, or measures to improve absorption of carbon in the oceans by
boosting phytoplankton growth. Also the use of nuclear energy as powerful source of clean
energy could not be denied. More research into the area would improve efficiency and
make nuclear power a more reliable and viable source of clean energy.
Taxing rich countries for exploitative use of fossils can help curb the indiscriminate use of
exhaustible resources. Incentivising poor people to rely more on renewable sources of
energy in areas where they could be comfortably used by subsidising necessary
equipment could come in handy. These however must not be mistaken for comprehensive
solution to the problem. These only provide collateral support to the real solution of trying
to always invent new technology to deal with the problem.
There is a need for concerted effort from all quarters to make this convention a success.
Nations must prioritise environmental concerns more than they ever have and the need to
adopt comprehensive policies while also ensuring equal treatment to poorer developing
countries in the context of their present conditions and thus relaxation to some extent from
standardised emission norms is more urgent than ever. Technology as a tool to tackle the
problem is indispensable ,as also the need to constantly develop new technology to tackle
the problem of environment degradation which is growing more intense by the day.
