OLT and ONU are configured using EMS (Element Management System) E100 software. In ZTEs
documentation, it is referred to as ZXUMS-E100 EMS integrated NE management system.

ZXUMS-E100 EMS:
The ZXA10 NE management system is based on the client/server structure composed of the EMS
Server and EMS Client

Connection between NEs and Servers


Category-5 twisted pairs and hubs are used to connect the NEs and servers. Twisted pairs are
connected to the network cards of the nodes through RJ45 connectors.

Installation of the ZXUMS-E100 EMS Software:

1. PREREQUISITE:
1. Operating System: ZXUMS-E100 EMS software runs on Windows NT, Windows 2000 and
Windows XP
2. SQL Server 7.0 or SQL 2000
3. Configuring SQL Server:
Click the short-cut icon of Start Program Microsoft SQL Server Enterprise Manager
in the Windows operating system to start the SQL Server Enterprise Manager (taking for example
the SQL Server 2000), as shown in Fig.-1. Enter the Security Login interface in the tree
directory. Double-click the login user to pop up the sa Login Property interface as shown in Fig.-2.
In the password edit box, enter the correct sa user password ZTESMCC and click OK. Then the
Confirm Password dialog box pops up, as shown in Fig.-3. Enter the sa user password
ZTESMCC again. Click OK and then the system will change the sa password

The platform system of the ZXUMS E100 operates with three parts:
a. Database
b. EMS server
c. EMS clients
Double-click autorun.exe in ZXUMS E100 (V1.1) CD. ZXUMS E100 Setup interface will
pop up as shown in Fig. 4

pop up a ZXUMS E100 Platform Setup interface as shown in Fig.-5

Step 2: There are two options on the interface ZXUMS E100 Database and ZXUMS E100 V1.1.
Click ZXUMS E100 Database to pop up a ZXUMS E100 Database Setup interface as shown in
Fig.-6

Step 3: The ZXUMS E100 Database Setup interface includes two options; the Create ZXUMS
E100 Database and Upgrade ZXUMS E100 Database. Make selection based on the installed
database versions. To upgrade ZXA10-MS V2.3 database to ZXUMS E100 database, click the
Upgrade ZXUMS E100 Database option in the interface, and the system will automatically
complete the upgrade process. Finally, an interface will pop up prompting you that the upgrade is
completed successfully.
Step 4: If Create ZXUMS E100 Database is selected in Fig.-6, the setup program will stop and
restart the database service. In this process, a dialog box as shown in Fig.-7 will appear twice
prompting operation success. Just click OK. When the database service is restarted, the Setup
program will re-create the database of the platform system, no matter whether it already exists on
the users computer. When the database is created, the setup program will automatically end.

Installation preparations
EMS service needs the support of the database, the ZXUMS E100 database must be installed before
the EMS server.
Installation steps
Install the EMS server of the platform system as follows:
Step 1: Click ZXUMS E100 Platform System on the ZXUMS E100 Setup interface Fig.-4, to
enter the ZXUMS E100 Platform Setup interface Fig.-5. Then click ZXUMS E100 V1.1 on the
interface to enter a Welcome interface as shown in Fig.-8.

Step 2: Click the Next button on the interface to enter the Please Select Install Server or Client
interface Fig.-9

Step 3: Select the EMS Server option. Click Next button to pop up the Software License
Agreement interface, as shown in Fig.-10.

Step 4: Click the Yes button on the Software License Agreement interface to pop up the User
Information interface, as shown in Fig.-11.

Step 5: Enter the user name, company name and product serial No. in the Name, Company, and
Serial No. edit boxes. Here the serial No. is case-insensitive E100 character string. Click the Next
button to pop up the Choose Destination Location interface Fig.-12

Step 6: Click the Browse button to select the destination location and program folder in the pop-up
Choose Folder dialog box, Fig.-13, click the OK button to end path selection, and then return to
the Choose Destination Location interface.

Click the Next button to enter the Select Program Folder interface Fig.-14.

Step 7: When the bar extends to 100%, the Enter Information interface pops up Fig.-16, asking
for IP Address of the DB Server.

Step 8: Enter the database server name in the input box on the Enter Information interface; the
system will use it to configure ODBC. The default name in the input box is 127.0.0.1 (Local DB
Server). Click the OK button to start configuring ODBC. After the configuration is over, the
Setup Complete interface Fig.-17, will appear. Click the Finish button to end the installation of
the EMS server.

Installation of the ZXUMS E100 Platform System EMS Client:


Installation preparations
The EMS client can work only after logging on to the EMS server. Therefore, the ZXUMS E100
platform system EMS server should be installed before the installation of the EMS client. If the
server program and client program are not installed on the same computer, ensure that the two
computers can Ping each other.
Installation steps
(The EMS client is installed in roughly the same way as the EMS server, differing only at Steps 2, 6
and 7, as specified below. For other installation steps)

Step 1: Select the EMS Client option on the Please Select Install Server or Client interface
Fig.18), click the Next button to pop up the Software License Agreement interface.

Step 2: The progress bar on the Setup interface indicates the installation progress. When the
progress bar reaches 100%, the Enter Information interface appears Fig. 19.

Step 3: Enter the IP address of the EMS server on the Enter Information interface. If the EMS
server and EMS client are installed in the same computer, use the default server IP 127.0.0.1. If the
EMS server and EMS client are installed in different computers, input the correct IP address of the
EMS server in the input box.

Installation Check
The setup program will finally generate the ZTE Integrated NE Management System program
folder under the Programs menu of the Start menu of the Windows operating system, as shown in,
Fig. 20, and there are three shortcut icons underneath. To start the EMS server program, click
ZXUMS-E100 Server. To start the EMS client program, click ZXUMS-E100 Client.

After the default installation, the program files can be found in the following directories:
C:\Program Files\zte\ems\server is the directory that holds the server programs.
C:\Program Files\zte\ems\oam is the directory that holds the client programs.

Installation of the Access Management System
The access management system operates with three parts: Database, EMS server and EMS clients.
The EMS server needs the support of the database and the EMS client needs the support of the EMS
server. Follow the sequence below although the three parts are to be installed separately.
1. Installing the database
2. Installing the EMS server
3. Installing the EMS clients

Installation of the ZXUMS E100 A10 System Database


Before the installation of the ZXUMS E100 A10 System, the ZXUMS E100 platform system must
be installed
Step 1: Double-click autorun.exe in ZXUMS E100 (V1.1) CD. ZXUMS E100 Setup
interface will pop up as shown in Fig. 21

Step 3: Click the ZXUMS E100 A10 Database option on the ZXUMS A10 System to pop up the
ZXUMS E100 A10 System Database interface, as shown in Fig.- 23

This interface includes the Create ZXUMS E100 A10 System Database option and the Upgrade
ZXUMS E100 A10 System Database option, and the user can select either option according to the
version of the database installed. To upgrade the ZXA10-MS V2.0 database to the ZXUMS E100
(V1.1) EMS database, click Upgrade ZXUMS E100 A10 System Database and the system will
carry out the upgrading automatically. In the end, the system will give a prompt that the upgrading
is completed successfully.
Step 4: Click the Create ZXUMS E100 A10 System Database option. Then the setup program
will pop up the Select Database interface, as shown in Fig. 24.

Step 5: This interface lists all databases that can be created. Select 4K DB, OLTB512 DB, OLTB
DB, U/T Series Devices DB, SDH DB and S Series Devices DB. Click the Next button and the
Setup program will first stop and then start database service. In this process, the dialog box as
shown in Fig.-25 pops up twice, indicating that the operation has been stopped or started

successfully. Now just click the OK button. After the database service is restarted, the Setup
grogram will start to re-create the database selected, no matter whether it exists in the computer.
When the database is created, the Setup program is closed automatically.

Step 1: Click the ZXUMS E100 A10 System option on the ZXUMS E100 Setup interface Fig.-21,

Step 8: Click the Next button to pop up the Setup interface Fig.-32. The progress bar indicates the
installation progress. When the bar extends to 100%, the Input Database Server Name interface

Step 9: Enter the database server name in the input box on the Enter Information interface, the
system will use it to configure ODBC. The default name in the input box is (127.0.0.1, Local

the EMS server

Installation of the ZXUMS E100 A10 System EMS Client


The EMS client is installed in roughly the same way as the EMS server
Step 1: Click the ZXUMS E100 A10 System option on the ZXUMS E100 Setup interface Fig.21,
to pop up the ZXUMS E100 A10 Manage System interface Fig.22
Step 2: Click the ZXUMS E100 A10 System option to pop up the ZXUMS E100 A10 Setup

Step 3: Click the ZXUMS E100 A10 option to pop up the Welcome window of ZXUMS E100

Step 4: Click the Next button to pop up the Please Select Install Server or Client interface Fig.28
