Figure 4 illustrates the trend in the number of registered vehicles in the


Philippines distributed in the private, for hire, and government groups in the years
2008 to 2012. The trend in the total number of vehicles yields a tantamount
increase in each year from 2008 to 2012, with 2012 garnering the most amount of
a total of 7,463,393 vehicles and 2008 with the least total of 5,891,272 vehicles.
The largest overall growth happened between the years 2010 and 2011 with a
growth percentage of 7.60% while the lowest overall growth percentage occurred
in the late years of 2011 to 2012, a growth percentage of 4.54%. The trend in
private vehicles, the largest portion of the countrys motor vehicles, follows a
synonymous and steady increase each year, 2012 having the highest number of
6,417,809 and 2008 having the lowest number of 4,908,332. The largest growth
of number of private vehicles happened in the years 2010 to 2011, 8.26%, and
the lowest growth happened in the years 2011 to 2012, 5.27%. For hire vehicles
also increased in number in the respective years but with a much slower phase. The
year 2012 exhibits the most number of for hire vehicles at a count of 969, 784
vehicles and the lowest at 2008 for a number of 899, 211 vehicles. The count of
government vehicles suffered a mid-year downfall and recovering by a small
percentage in the late year. The year 2011 displays the most number of
government vehicles at an amount of 73307, and the year 2010 exhibits the least
number in the amount of 65060. The number of government vehicles suffered a
depression in the years 2008 to 2009 by falling a percentage of 6.93%, the
greatest fall percentage, however, the numbers recovered in 2012 by having the
largest growth percentage at a value of 7.25%.
