3. ABSENCES:
After THREE unexcused absences during the semester, 1 percentage point will be subtracted from the student's final
participation grade for each additional absence. Attendance will be taken daily.
Three late arrivals constitute 1 absence.
If you are absent, it is your responsibility to find out what you missed so that you come prepared on the day that you do
return to class.
If your absence is excused, you must inform your instructor immediately upon return and bring appropriate
documentation to prove it. RECOMMENDATION: Set two alarms, especially on exam days.
4. WEEKLY PREPARATION / PARTICIPATION GRADE: (10%)
A. SPAN105 Assessment RequirementMANDATORY: Bring your computer to class on the first day.
All SPAN105 students must complete a SPAN105 Assessment the first day of class. This assessment is designed to evaluate
how much Spanish 105 material you know.
b.
There are 3 pronunciation activities. The first one is NOT for grade. It is labeled Pronunciation Practice. The purpose of
the Pronunciation Practice is that you know how to record and to give your instructor an example of your pronunciation.
These activities are designed for you to practice your pronunciation individually. The instructions for these assignments are
under the Assignments tab in Sakai with specific instructions for each one.
10. ACKLAND MUSEUM PROJECT: (10%)
The Ackland Art Museum Project has two components:
a. Ackland Scavenger Hunt-To be completed in Sakai at the Ackland Art Museum (3%)
b. Oral Interview at the Ackland Art Museum (7%)Interviews will be at the Ackland Art Museum.
Instructions regarding the Ackland Museum Project are in Sakai under the link Lessons Ackland Museum Project. The
assignment has two components:
A. Ackland Scavenger Hunt. Each section of SPAN105 will be assigned a specific gallery. As soon as the Ackland Museum
assigns a gallery to your section, your instructor will post that information in Sakai and announce it in class.
B. Oral Interview at the Ackland Art Museum. The instructions are in Sakai under Lessons. Your instructor will tell you
the day that he/she will discuss them in class approximately 15 days before the interview so that you have time to prepare.
