Multimedia Writing and Rhetoric 11 December 2015 Just as this portfolio is broken down into separate parts, I have come to realize that the writing process is also broken down into many separate parts. My process of writing is most evident in my rhetorical analysis of Dear White People. I went through many different drafts of that paper, more than I have with any other paper. My writing process has evolved dramatically due to this class. Before, I never went to my writing teachers for help or revisions, but this year I took full advantage of having Dr. McLaughlin to help me with my papers and all I regret is not having gone to my teachers in the past. It is reflected in this portfolio through the thoughtful way in which I tried to order my portfolio. This portfolio demonstrates my understanding of rhetoric and argumentation through the organization by which it is set up. I have learned that in order to be good at argumentation and rhetoric, you must also have good organization, so I feel as though I have shown that here. Each assignment is proof of my evolved critical research, reading, and thinking skills. The first assignments show my mediocre skills at the beginning of the year, and as the year went on my skills clearly improved. I enjoyed the fact that multimedia was involved in every assignment. It made each one more enjoyable and interesting, especially when I had to record my audio narrative and record our satire PSA. Each assignment engaged us with different types of media, which helped show me that my options for research, reading, and thinking are not limited to just the internet or books. Each one introduced at least one new form of multimedia after the other. My mastery of the intended purposes of the assignments is shown through my extensive use of the multimedia that was assigned to me. I am most proud of the satirical PSA. The three others that I worked with Trebor, Claire, and Brendan became my best friends in that class through the process of making the video, and we all spent huge amounts of time and effort perfecting the look and feel of the video. It also yielded us our highest grade, which made us feel even better about it. It highlights my strength and growth in writing because of how long it took to make. Through the course of a week and almost 24 hours total hours of effort, we were able to make it our best assignment yet, and this idea of having a long but
effective process has carried over into my other assignments as well since I now take plenty of time to write and revise my papers before handing them in.
