Telecom Industry in Bahrain is highly competitive with 3


main operators namely Batelco, Zain and Viva. These 3
main operators are aggressively vying for market share
particularly in the highly lucrative mobile and
broadband services. It is estimated that there are
approximately 1.55 million mobile voice subscribers
and Bahrain has 187% mobile penetration as on 2011.
The major operators Viva, Batelco and Zain (formerly
known as MTC Vodafone) largely control the market
each having different strategies in terms of market
penetration and distribution.
Batelco is the incumbent which has operated in Bahrain
for over 50 years. Batelco is having large network both
in Fixed Line and in Mobile Services.
Zain started operations in the Kingdom of Bahrain in
December 2003 as MTC-Vodafone. Since then, it has
introduced 4G LTE, 3.5G and WIMAX services to the
Kingdom. Zains network covers 100% of the Bahraini
population.
VIVA Bahrain - (VIVA) - (Arabic: )is
a telecommunications company based in Bahrain. It is
owned by the Saudi Telecom Company Group and
started its commercial service in March 2010.

Apart from this there are 11 other operators who offer


various telecom services on Broadband and Fixed Line.
