(d) Please suggest FIVE things that can be done to improve the results of group decision making for this
Desert Survival Exercise. Be sure to explain the rationale for each suggestion. (10 points, 2 points

Question 2

(a) Describe and illustrate THREE communication channels based on your experiences working
with your team members on the movie team project. Give examples (9 points, 3 points
each).

(b) The Marketing Director of a national car parts retail company in China wants to keep the 20
district managers across the country informed about marketing initiatives and experiences
within the company. This information ranges from technical marketing strategies to simple
stories about successful marketing experiences within the company. One or two pieces of
information are communicated each week and the Marketing Director wants to communicate
this information as quickly and cost-efficiently as possible. If you had to choose just one
specific medium (3 points) and form of communication within that medium (3 points), which
would you choose? Justify your choice (3 points). You may assume that all common forms of
communication are available to the Marketing Director.

Question 3
You have just been appointed as leader of a new shipping and receiving unit in your organization. You
have been given considerable latitude to select team members from among the existing workforce
throughout the organization. However, you are aware of a deeply embedded practice in many areas of
the organization whereby employees engage in horseplay by racing the forklifts. This practice is costly
(some forklifts and shipped goods have been damaged) and moreover, there is a safety risk where the
forklifts could overturn or run over another employee. Based on your knowledge of managing team norms,
describe four (4) actions to minimize the likelihood that this practice would occur in your new team (8
points, 2 points each). Your answer should also explain why each of these actions would be effective (9
point).

Question 4
We have discussed two different models of team development (5 stages model vs. punctuated
equilibrium model) in class. Describe what these two models are (10 points). In addition, using your own
experiences in the movie team project, describe which one of the models applies to your team.
Please use specific examples of your own (5 points).

Question 5
Reflecting on your movie team project experiences, analyze your teams effectiveness.
Note that you need to answer this question on the basis of specific experiences you have in MGMT 2110,
and the concepts you have learnt from this course. Please give examples, explanations, and justifications
whenever necessary.
(a) Was your project team effective/ineffective? How did the factors described in the team effectiveness
model (or lack of it) influence your teams performance? Give THREE examples. (6 points, 2 points
each)

(b) What factors contributed to team effectiveness or lack of it in your project team? Discuss THREE
factors. (6 points, 2 points each)

(c) Suggest TWO actions that you would recommend to enhance team effectiveness in future class
projects. (8 points, 4 points each)
