Value,Purpose and Importance of Research
The purpose of research is to inform action. Thus, your study
should seek to contextualize its findings within the larger body of
research. Research must always be high quality in order to
produce knowledge that is applicable outside of the research
setting with implications that go beyond the group that has
participated in the research. Furthermore, the results of your
study should have implications for policy and project
implementation. As you probably already know, there are many
reasons why research is done. But what are its purposes? Why
bother with all the different styles, techniques, experiments and
measurements? Expenditures resulting from research funding at
UNC-Chapel Hill cycle through the state and local economies,
transforming federal funds into revenue for North Carolina
residents and businesses.

Characteristics of good research

Teaching needs improvement, and any research that helps
improve it is significant. Many students carry on research
unrelated to life and claim generous support on the grounds that
their findings are "statistically significant." Some researches try to
solve dozens of problems or problems so big as to defy the efforts
of a single individual.

Differences of research and problem solving
The research is investigation or experimentation aimed at the
discovery and interpretation of facts, revision of accepted theories
or laws in the light of new facts, or practical application of such
new or revised theories or laws .
While the problem solving is consists of using generic or ad

hoc methods, in an orderly manner, for finding solutions to

problems. Some of the problem-solving techniques developed

kinds and Classification of research according to
purpose,goal,levels of investigation,types of
analysis, scope, choice of answer to problems, statistical
content and time element.
According to purpose. There are three broadly different kinds of research,
namely, predictive, directive and illuminative.
According to goal. According to goal, research may be classified as basic or
pure research and applied research.
According to the levels of investigation. French categorizes research
according to the levels of investigation into exploratory research, descriptive
research and experimental research.
According to the type of analysis. According to the type of analysis, research
is classified into analytic and holistic research.

According to scope. Under this category is action research. This type of

research is done on a very limited scope to solve a particular problem which
is not so big. It is almost problem solving.
.According to choice of answers to problems. Research that is concerned with
finding answers to problems into evaluation and development research.
According to statistical content. Under this type may be
mentioned quantitative research and non-quantitative research.
According to time element. According to time element, best classifies
research as historical, descriptive and experimental.

Research of scientific inquiry
The National Science Education Standards define scientific inquiry
as "the diverse ways in which scientists study the natural world
and propose explanations based on the evidence derived from
their work. Scientific inquiry also refers to the activities through
which students develop knowledge and understanding of
scientific ideas, as well as an understanding of how scientists
study the natural world.

People oriented research
Research services are offered in the arena of Indigenous projects
and sustainable building in Australia, with specialist expertise in
tropical sustainable building. POD has been involved on a plethora
of research projects through the University of Queensland, James
Cook University and the University of South Australia. Most
recently we have been involved in research for a Sustainable
Tropical Case Studies Project with JCU and The Tropical Green
Building Network, funded by the JCU Action for Sustainability
Fund. We have also been researching Indigenous Homeownership
in Australia.

Topic Synthesis in
Research process
The first step in the process is to identify a problem or develop a
research question. The research problem may be something the
agency identifies as a problem, some knowledge or information
that is needed by the agency, or the desire to identify a recreation
trend nationally. Now that the problem has been identified, the
researcher must learn more about the topic under investigation.
To do this, the researcher must review the literature related to the
research problem. This step provides foundational knowledge
about the problem area Once the instrumentation plan is
completed, the actual study begins with the collection of data.
The collection of data is a critical step in providing the information
needed to answer the research question. All the time, effort, and
resources dedicated to steps 1 through 7 of the research process
culminate in this final step. The researcher finally has data to
analyze so that the research question can be answered. In the
instrumentation plan, the researcher specified how the data will
be analyzed.
