concerning the birth of Jesus

Seed of a woman: ProphecyAnd I will put enmity between you and the woman, between your seed and
her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, and you shall bruise him on the heel. (Gen 3:15) FulfilledBut
when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law. (Gal 4:4)
From the tribe of Judah: ProphecyThe scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from
between his feet, until Shiloh comes, and to him shall be the obedience of the peoples (Gen 49:10).
FulfilledFor it is evident that our Lord arose from Judah, of which tribe Moses spoke nothing concerning
priesthood. (Heb 7:14)
Descendant of David: Prophecy"Behold, the days are coming," declares the LORD, "When I shall raise up
for David a righteous Branch; and He will reign as king and act wisely and do justice and righteousness in
the land. In His days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely; and this is His name by which He will
be called, The LORD our righteousness. (Jeremiah 23:5-6) FulfilledHe will be great, and will be called the
Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. (Luke 1:32)
Heir to the throne of David: ProphecyThere will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace,
on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness
from then on and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will accomplish this (Isa 9:7). FulfilledHe will
be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His
father David; and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever; His kingdom will have no end (Lk 1:32-33).
Born in Bethlehem: Prophecyfrom you [Bethlehem] One will go forth for Me to be ruler in Israel. His
goings forth are from long ago, from the days of eternity (Micah 5:2). FulfilledAnd Joseph also went up
from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because
he was of the house and family of David, in order to register, along with Mary, who was engaged to him,
and was with child...And she gave birth to her first born son; and she wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and
laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn (Lk 2:4-5,7).
Born of a Virgin: ProphecyTherefore the LORD Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with
child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel (Isa 7:14). FulfilledNow in the sixth month the
angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city in Galilee, called Nazareth, to a virgin engaged to a man whose
name was Joseph, of the descendants of David; and the virgin's name was Mary...And the angel said to her,
"Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb,
and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus (Lk 1:26-27, 30-31).
Attempts to Destroy Him as a Child: ProphecyThus says the LORD, "A voice is heard in Ramah,
lamentation and bitter weeping. Rachel is weeping for her children; she refuses to be comforted for her
children, because they are no more (Jer 31:15). FulfilledThen when Herod saw that he had been tricked by
the Magi, he became very enraged, and sent and slew all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in
all its districts, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined from the
Magi. Then that which was spoken through Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled, saying, "A voice was heard in
Ramah, weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children; and she refused to be comforted,
because they were no more. (Matt 2:16-18)

Flight to Egypt: P rophecyWhen Israel w as a youth I loved him, and out of Egypt I called My son (Ho sea 11:1 ).
FulfilledAnd he arose and took th e Child and His moth er by night, and d ep arted for Egypt; and was th ere until
the d eath of H erod, th at wh at was spoken by th e Lord through the proph et might be ful filled, saying, "Out o f
Egypt did I call My Son. (Matt 2:14-1 5)
The Way Prepared: ProphecyA voice is calling, "Cl ear th e way for th e LORD in th e wildern ess; make smooth in
the d esert a highw ay for our God. L et every valley b e lift ed up, and every m ountain and hill be m ade low; and
let the rou gh ground b ecom e a plain, and th e rugged terr ain a bro ad valley; Th en the glory o f the L ORD will be
reveal ed, and all flesh will see it to geth er; for the m outh o f th e L ORD h as spoken. (Isa 40:3-5 ) FulfilledAnd h e
came into all the district around th e Jordan, pr eaching a baptism of r ep entanc e for th e forgiveness of sins; as it
is writt en in th e book o f th e words of Isaiah th e proph et, "The voice o f one cr ying in th e wildern ess, `Make
read y the way of the Lord, make His p aths straight. Every r avine shall b e filled up, and every mountain and hill
shall b e brought low; and th e croo ked shall b ecom e straight, and th e rough ro ads sm ooth; and all flesh shall see
the salvation of God. (Lk 3:3-6 )
Preceded by Elijah: ProphecyBehold, I am going to send you Elijah th e prophet b efore th e coming o f th e gr eat
and t errible d ay o f th e LORD. And h e will restor e th e h earts of the father s to their children, and the h earts o f
the children to their father s, l est I come and smite th e land with a curse. (Malachi 4:5-6 ) FulfilledFor all th e
prophets and the L aw proph esi ed until John. And if you c are to accept it, h e himself is Elijah, who was to com e.
(Matt 11:13-1 4)
Declared the Son of God: ProphecyI will sur ely tell o f the d ecree o f th e LORD: He said to Me, Thou art My Son,
today I have b egott en Thee. (P s 2:7) FulfilledH e will b e gr eat, and will b e called th e Son o f the Mo st High; and
the Lord God will give Him th e thron e of His father David(Lk 1:32 ). And, b ehold, a voic e out of the h eaven s,
saying, This is My beloved Son in whom I am well pleased. (Matt 3:17)
The Blind, Deaf, and L ame are Healed by the Messiah: Prophecyth en the eyes of th e blind will be op ened, and
the ears o f th e d eaf will be un stopped. Then th e lam e will leap like a deer, and th e tongu e of th e du mb will
shout for joy. For w at ers will br eak forth in th e wildern ess and str eam s in th e Ar abah. (Isa 35:5 -6 ) Ful filledAnd
He answer ed and said to th em, Go and r eport to John wh at you have seen and h eard : th e blind r eceive sight,
the l ame walk, the l eper s ar e cleansed, and th e d eaf h ear, th e d ead ar e raised up, the poor h ave the gosp el
preached to them. (Lk 7:22)
Betrayed by a Close Friend: ProphecyEven m y close friend, in whom I tru sted, who ate m y br ead, h as lift ed up
his heel against m e. (Ps 41:9) Fulfilled The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Bec ause H e anointed Me to pr each
the gosp el to th e poor. While He was still sp eaking, b ehold, a multitude c am e, and the on e called Judas, on e o f
the tw elve, was pr ec eding th em; and h e approach ed Jesus to kiss Him. But J esu s said to him, "Judas, are you
betraying the Son of Man with a kiss? (Lk 22:47-4 8)
Crucified with Cri minal s: ProphecyTh er efor e, I will allot Him a portion with the gr eat, and H e will divide th e
booty with th e stron g; b ecause H e pour ed out Himself to d eath, and was numb er ed with th e tran sgr essor s; yet
He Him sel f bor e th e sin o f m any, and int erced ed for th e transgr essors. (Isa 53:12) Ful filledAnd th ey crucifi ed
two robb er s with Him, on e on His right and on e on His l eft. [And th e Scripture w as ful filled which says, "And H e
was numbered with transgressors.] (Mk 15:27-2 8)
To Be Re surrected: ProphecyFor You will not leave my soul in Sheol, nor will You allow Your Holy One to see
corruption (Ps 16:10). I sh all not di e, but live, and t ell o f the wor ks o f th e LORD. (Ps 118:17) Ful filledAnd h e said
to them, Do not be amazed; you ar e looking for J esu s the Nazar ene, who has been crucified. H e h as risen; H e i s
not here; behold, here is the place where they laid Him. (Mk 16:6)
Sent the Holy Spirit: ProphecyAnd it will com e about aft er this that I will pour out My Spirit on all m ankind;
And your son s and d aught ers will prophesy, Your old m en will dream dr eams, Your young m en will see vision s
(Joel 2:28). Ful filledAnd sudd enly th er e c ame a sound from h eaven, as o f a ru shing mighty wind, and it filled
the whole hou se wh ere th ey wer e sitting. Th en th er e app ear ed to th em divided tongu es, as of fire, and on e sat
upon each of th em. And th ey w er e all filled with the Holy Spirit and b egan to sp eak with oth er tongu es, as th e
Spirit gave them utterance.
His Kingdom Is Without End: ProphecyHis kingd om is the one which shall not b e d estro yed, and His dominion
shall endur e to th e end (Dan 6:26). His kingd om is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions sh all serve and
obey Him (Dan 7:27). Everyone Invited: For God so loved the world that He gave His only b egott en Son, th at
whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (Jn 3:16)
