Montage
Description:

A montage depicting Jesus, a potters

hands, and a scripture, Isaiah 64:8.

Date:

October 24, 2015

Course/Instructor:
COMM 130 Section 07
Ben Pingel

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Photoshop

Objectives:

Learn to manage Photoshop Layers

Learn to blend images together smoothly, using masks
Use filters
Apply appropriate typography

Process:

My original piece was landscape, but based on feedback I decided to

change it to portrait. I started off placing each of the pictures. I found high
resolution images of Jesus and of a potter working with clay. I used masking
layers to meld the images together to erase any sharp edges. I then found
some textures to add interest to the piece, and edited the masking layers to
make the texture more apparent in some areas, and less apparent in others.

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Photoshop

Objectives:

Size a logo for a web page.

Write content relating to the logo and the design process.
Design a web page using knowledge of HTML and CSS.
Identify hex colors for web design.
Compress multiple files into a zipped folder.

Process:

To start off I wrote the HTML document, adding proper tags and indentation.
Once the skeleton of the document was done, I began fleshing it out with
a description of the logo, and my design process. I moved on to the CSS
document. I wrote the CSS document by myself, however I did use the
internet and the provided CSS document as references as to what I wanted
to do. I added a fixed image in the background, changed some fonts, and
adjusted the colors and sizes of some elements.

Use a digital camera to take a quality image, and download it.
Size and crop the image.
Adjust image brightness, contrast, hue, and saturation levels.

Objectives:

Create a variety of logos to fit a company or personal image.

Use the basic tools of Illustrator.

Process:

I used Adobe Illustrator to formulate 3 different designs for the logo. All of
them depicted either a mug or a cup. After some critique and feedback,
I settled on the design with the coffee cup. I fixed some errors that were
brought to my attention during the feedback, and changed the fonts to
further emphasize the word vibes, and to better show an association
between the text and the graphic.

and began to work on a digital copy of my sketch. I got some critique on
the digital design, and took the critiques into account when I went back to
my digital design. I applied some of the suggested changes to get the final
product. I then decided to redesign the entire flier to better fit the typical
BYUI poster design.
