UNIT 2- Application of Op-Amp

1. What is adder?
An adder is an arithmetic circuit. The amount output voltage is equal to the algebraic sum of input signal voltages.
Vo = - (V1+ V2+ V3)
2. What is summing amplifier?
The output is the amplification of sum of input signal voltages. Vo = Av(V1+ V2+ V3)
3. Define multiplier?
Multiplier is the application of inverting amplifier. It multiplies the input voltage to a particular amount and produces
the output.

Vo = - M Vi

4. Define divider?
Divider is also the application of inverting amplifier. A divider divides the input voltage to a particular amount and
produces the output.

Vo = -Vi / D

5. What is voltage follower?

The output voltage follows the input voltage. The voltage follower is also called unity gain amplifier.
Vo = Vi
6. What is comparator?
The comparator compares two input voltages (inverting & Non-inverting) and produces output based on the inputs.
7. Give one application of comparator?
The main application of comparator is converting a sine wave signal into a square wave signal.
8. What are zero crossing detectors?
In this circuit, the output will change from one state to another when the input signal passes through zero.
9. What is the part of zero crossing detector?
1. Comparator

2. Differentiator

3. Half wave rectifier

10. What is an integrator?

An integrator circuit integrates the input signal with respect to time. Vo = -

Vi dt
RC

11. What is differentiator?

The output signal(Vo) is differentiation of input signal (dVi). Vo = - RC ( dVi / dt )
12. What is current to voltage converter?
The output voltage is proportional to the input current. It is also called as trans-resistance amplifier.
Vo Is
13. What is voltage to current converter?
The output current is proportional to input voltage. It also called as trans-conductance amplifier.
IL Vi
14. What are the types of voltage to current converter?
1. V to I converter with floating load

2. V to I converter with grounded load

Unit-II

In analog instrumentation, the transducers are required to measure and control physical quantities. The output of
transducers has to be amplified, so that it can drive the indicator or display system. For doing this, an instrumentation
amplifier may be used.
16. Give any 3 features of instrumentation amplifier?
1. High gain accuracy

2. High CMRR

3. High gain stability

17. What is waveform generators ?

Wave form generators are generates various waveforms such as square, triangular, sawtooth, sine wave etc.
18. What is square wave generator?
It generates Square wave. It also called astable multi-vibrator or free running oscillator.
Total time period T= 2RC ln (

2 R1 +2 R 2
R2

19. Give the advantage of sine wave generator.

1. simple to design.

2. Can produce output over audio frequency range

3. Produces sinusoidal output waveform

4. It is a fixed frequency oscillator

20. Give the frequency of oscillation of triangular wave generator.

Fo = R3 / ( 4R1C1R2 )
21. What is saw tooth signal?
Rise time and fall time of the wave form are not equal. Triangle wave form can be converted Saw tooth waveform by
