Congratulations!
Student of the Month:

Jennifer H.

High School
Edition

Jennifer H. was an easy choice for Stu-

Most Improved Student of the Month for

Life Skills. Ty started the semester great,
but then an injury caused him to fall behind in his studies. Upon recovery, Ty
has been working hard to complete not
only his current work but make up the
work he missed during his recovery. Ty
reaches out when he needs assistance
and is now succeeding in class
again. Thanks for all the hard work,
Ty!!!

dent of the Month. Not only does she

consistently maintain a high A average in
Honors Algebra II, she also understands
the organization and responsibility needed for success in the virtual learning environment. Her work is not only submitted
on time, she begins long-term projects
well in advance of the due date. Jennifer
takes advantage of the learning opportunities our school offers our students: she
actively participates in the live Class Connect sessions and comes to office hours to
insure full understandingnot just an A
as needed. Jennifer invested the time
needed to understand the new platform
early on and freely shared what she
learned with our class. When a student
expressed frustration over not being able
to view assessments once submitted, she
gladly shared the instructions for going
through progress to open those assessments. She is self-motivated, responsible,
and a great supporter of her fellow students.

-Mrs. Willis

SCVCS Student Spotlight

Issue 3, 2015-2016

December 2015

Justin Weinstein has been involved in filmmaking since he was eleven years old. He
truly has a passion for filmmaking and this passion has driven him to become a more advanced
filmmaker. He started by recording himself playing video games and uploading them to his
YouTube channel (he currently has over seven hundred subscribers). This sparked Justins interest
in filmmaking which led to him buying a camera and film equipment. He stated, This incident
started, in an indirect way, my interest in videography (filmmaking). A domino effect resulted in
me buying my first camera, then spending large amounts of money on film equipment, and in a
matter of time I was already writing, filming, acting, and editing short films.
As with any hobby, there are pros and cons. For Justin, the pros greatly outweigh the cons.
He said, I can think of many pros of videography, but to be concise, here are some I can think of
off the top of my head: filmmaking is one of the strongest ways to creatively display a system of
ideas in a condensed, brief visual presentation. Filmmaking allows for anything to be possible, with the only limitations being the imagination of
one's mind. As for cons, I truly enjoy every aspect of filmmaking, and can't
think of anything bad about it. The only true con to me would be the
amount of effort that goes into it. It takes groups of very devoted people

to make a great film, and if one person quits the entire production could
be endangered. My life has changed drastically due to videography, as
it's my passion. I've been able to edit trailers and make short films to help
various businesses, churches, etc. Most of the time, I do it just for fun. Having a very wide imagination, I sometimes find myself writing scripts randomly throughout the day when I get ideas.
We can see that Justin really enjoys filmmaking and has a great imagination. He went on to talk about what he enjoys most about filmmaking.

He said, The one thing I enjoy most in videography is seeing the transformation of work over time. Being able to transform an idea in your head
into such a vast visual world is something not many other art forms offer. I
honestly can't think of anything I would change about videography.
Thanks Justin for sharing your awesome accomplishments and keep up
the great work!

Issue 3, 2015-2016

December 2015

JaNia Hannah has been involved with cheerleading and playing music since she was a
young child. She started cheering at her local recreation center, and that inspired her to become
a cheerleader at school. Her music activity began when she started singing as a young child, and
she commenced playing the clarinet when she was in the sixth grade. Her cheerleading and music activities keep her busy and allow her to do much traveling. She says, Ive been a busy person. Since I started cheering and playing the clarinet I have been going almost everywhere.
While she does not travel a lot with the band, she has cheerleading competitions every Saturday
that take her to many different destinations.

JaNia spends a lot of time preparing for her cheerleading and music performances. She explains,
I have to practice over and over and over again until I know I have it. In cheerleading and playing music, it is important to be in synch with your fellow participants and it takes many hours of
practice to achieve that goal.
As far as reaching out to those who desire to become cheerleaders
and musicians, JaNia feels that it is important to encourage them to
commit to the activities and to take advantage of instruction provided by the older and more experienced performers. I help younger

cheerleaders at middle school who are going up to the high school

for tryouts. She enjoys the time she gets to spend with her fellow
cheerleaders and musicians, and looks forward to the practice sessions and performances. I really enjoy having fun with my friends.
She does feel like there is always room for improvement and stresses
the need to spend time refining her skills. If she could change one
thing about her experiences she would exert more effort in developing her abilities. She laments, I would work harder.

For students interested in cheerleading and playing music JaNia has

the following suggestions for getting started. 1) Work hard. 2) Never
give up. 3) Keep your head up. 4) Believe in yourself. 5) Never say
never because no matter what youre doing you should always push
yourself.
Thank you for sharing your story with us, JaNia, and best of luck in the
future!
