Carlos Rosario School seeks a dynamic and proven leader with a passion for education and service

to immigrant communities to head our Sonia Gutierrez campus in the role of School Principal.

Carlos Rosario International Public Charter School is a pioneer in adult education with a 40 year history
and is the nations first charter school for adults. As a nationally recognized leader in the field of adult
education and workforce development our mission is to serve the adult immigrant communities of the
District of Columbia. Our adult education model exemplifies excellence in academics and strength in
community partnerships while fostering a safe and compassionate learning environment. Our student
body is composed of high-achieving adult learners who set goals to learn English, earn their GED,
become U.S. citizens, achieve industry certifications in culinary arts, nursing or technology and improve
their employability skills. Our school operates in two campuses The Harvard Street Campus
(established in 1998) and the Sonia Gutierrez Campus (established in 2013). The Sonia Gutierrez
Campus hosts our upper-level ESL students and Career Training Academies.
The Sonia Gutierrez School Principal serves as educational leader of the campus and, in line with the
mission of the school, is responsible for implementing, managing and accessing the policies, regulations,
and procedures to ensure that all students are learning and meeting their goals. The School Principal also
provides expertise in curriculum and assessment development, personnel management, program
evaluation, budget management, scheduling, as well as preparations for school audits and evaluations for
all school programs and services. Importantly, the School Principal is responsible for maintaining and
promoting high standards for all school programs and services, along with promoting a systematic culture
of continuous improvement.
The Sonia Gutierrez School Principal will lead and ensure:
Excellence in teaching and learning, setting high standards for all school community members
(students, faculty and staff).
High rates of enrollment, attendance and persistence.
Career Training and GED students complete their program of study, pass industry certification
exams/GED exam, enter into employment and/or advance in the field, and/or enter into postsecondary education.
Students make measurable progress towards English fluency and towards meeting their self-identified
goals.
Strategic relationships are built and sustained with stakeholders such as community and employer
partners to support student achievement.
A safe and compassionate learning environment.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Seven years of management experience in the fields of adult education, community development,
immigrant integration, or related fields.
Three years teaching experience
Strong verbal and written communications in English and Spanish.
Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction; ability to evaluate instructional program and
teaching effectiveness; ability to manage budget and personnel; ability to coordinate school functions;
ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data; and strong organizational, communication, public
relations, and interpersonal skills.
Strong understanding of the best practices in adult and second language education.
Extensive experience building partnerships in the immigrant community.

EDUCATION:

Master's Degree in Education Administration, Adult Education, Business Administration or a related


field.

WORK SCHEDULE:
Monday-Friday; must be able to work a few evenings per week and occasional weekends.
