Question 1 you should briefly define transactional analysis as you see it inone of
Eric Bernes books. You have chosen Games people play. Your answer is too
narrow. It only mention the interchange of stimulus, you say nothing about the
structural theory of the self (parent, adult, child) and game theory. May be
Games people play isnt the best book to define TA, it doesnt include a proper
discussion of the idea of the life script, which is very important to TA. A proper
reference to TA is Stewart and Joines TA today. Lifespace publishing 1987, but
you are not supposed to know this book. A good score at this question should
cover more of the subjects in Games people play, and also mention life
scripts as an example of concepts in TA not covered in Games. An example of a
game you yourself can come about and analyzed using the structural model, as
Berne do, would be very fine. (A game analyzed with the drama triangle is
asked for In question 7)
Question 2 you got 7 on this, thats good enough.
Question 3
Complimentary transaction your example is ok, but your example of a crossed
transaction seems to also be a complimentary transaction, You always blame
me. Is better seen as child to parent. An example of an Adult answer would
be Thank you for the reminder, its dangerous not to look both ways. Try to
give another example of a crossed transaction. In ulterior transaction the hidden
meaning could be You stupid boy. And please dont be angry. but what
was the overt transaction what did they say (or do) in the open air ? You
have illustrated this by an interchange between adults, but? (Are something
missing in your text, it seems to stop too early)
Question 4 you got 7 on this
Question 5 you know the four levels of discounting, but the examples should be
more telling.
Discounting the existence is not only going to holiday even if the weather
forecast is bad, but going to holiday and not bringing any proper clothing.
Discounting is not taking any action considering the consequence. The
discounting the significance of the consequence I might get a cold. That the
weather may not change is not a discounting your change options. I case of bad
weather I could change my activities to be in the house.. And, your personal
abilities: Ican not plan for everything but of course you could plan for bad
weather. If you really have the opportunity to change the ticket, your example
will do. Your answer should be more elaborated, almost the length of one page.
Try to find an example which is more human-situated than the weather, and it
will be easier to discuss.
Question 6 you know the six ways of structuring time, but you forgot to
illustrate this by colleagues at a party. Use your imagination, and tell us a story.
(May be you have experienced all of the six ways).

Question 7 the problem with your answer is the same as in question 6. You
know the concepts but fail to illustrate the game by a story (an example). Let
say that you didnt invite ms. A to your dinner party last week. You are standing
talking to ms. B while ms A is approaching and invite ms B to her party. Ms. B
feels sorry for you and say May be you can come to my birthday party the next
week ?
But, you answer : Oh no I have so much interesting things to do, and sorry,
birthday parties are not on the top of my list (You are changing from victim to
persecutor, and the rescuer ms. B feels like a victim). Ok, this was only a small
example, please write a good story of your own.
Question 8 and 9 are marked as 7.
Question 10 are marked 6, just a little below the necessary average of 6.5
Autonomy is discussed in full in TA theory along the three capacities you have
mentioned. You are discussing awareness, but not spontaneity and intimacy.
You should do that. Independence is not discussed in depth as far as I know, but I
think your definition is ok not being connected, acting in isolation. It is the
opposite, not aware, but ignore, not showing spontaneity, not intimacy but
keeping others at a distance etc. Try to give some good examples and you will
improve the score.
