THE EXISTING MARKET

Digital TV: A fragmented market

Our unique chipset architecture
Why us?

The fragmented TV receiver market

Three media (T,S,C), many world standards... one IC to rule them all
TV: A 600 (+) Million market, fragmented in at least 3
different media (Terrestrial, cable, satellite) and too many
regional standards.
The RF tuner market is attracting investment because it is
standard-agnostic

Multi-standard, cost effective demodulators can unify the

terrestrial-cable-satellite markets into a much bigger, riskfree market
The sheer difficulty of second generation standards (DVBT2, C2, S2) is a barrier to entry for many competitors
What will be the architecture of the integrated TV chipsets
of the future, will they include a T2 or C2 demodulator?
The size of a T2/C2 demodulator could prevent this for
some time
The rise of the WebTV-enabled-TV could also influence
the TV SoC architecture.

Demodulator & Security semiconductors

A unique architecture for today and tomorrows products
Input: RF Broadcast, Terrestrial, Cable or Satellite Content encrypted (Conditional Access)

Competitive product for existing TV

Transport Stream to IPTV & CAS/CP area/cost impact is negligible
DVB-T2, DVB-C2...: A big barrier to entry for competitors

Revenue grows much faster than chip costs:

A single one-demod chip for all of DVB-T2/T, DVB-C2/C, DVB-S2/S...
Two chips for any combination of two 1st/2nd generation receivers:
PiP, Terrestrial and satellite, DVR...

Designed as well for new ways of content watching

AllVid, Home Gateways, in-home/mobile content distribution...
Key: CAS-to-Copy Protection, IPTV standards: RTSP, DTCP-IP, ...
Connects to any WiFi-enabled device or G.hn network

Output: IPTV for multi-screen distribution, In-house network & mobile. Content is Copy-protected

The TV industry is being challenged

How can we reinvent it ?
Content, broadcasters and the threat of OTT video
Broadcasters need to address the challenge of OTT video before it generates its own content

Multi-screen distribution
In-Home: To multiple TVs, preserving content rights & business model
To mobile: From the mobile network (real mobile) and in-home: a lot of mobile consumption takes
place at home or at least via a Wifi Offload for later consumption

Graphical user interfaces

STB/TV Middlewares: Mixed success, expensive, slow
The GUI most users would love to use is the one in their SmartPhone

The Set-Top Box: Disappearing, or reinventing itself ?

One STB per TV is not a good in-home strategy,
STB perceived as changing too slowly, generating legacy and installed base problems
Regulators & public authorities are not in love with the vertical STB model! -> US FCC AlVid

A key role for the Mobile Phone
Human Interface (HI): Becomes a central focus for browsing and
choosing content, buying... Mobile Phoness HI is highly personal and
familiar to users, sometimes more than the PCs. Users will benefit
from any improvement in HI such as 3D, holographic... Compare this
with your usual TV Middleware
Conditional Access (CA) : The phones return channel both simplifies
CA and makes it more secure.
New business models: New features and business options can be
adopted simply by downloading it into the mobile phone. This creates
a new and extremely attractive Application Development field.
