Q. What are the styles / Methods / Techniques of Reading?


1. Skimming
It is a method of rapidly moving the eyes over text with the purpose of getting only the main ideas and a general
overview of the content. It is useful in three different situations:
a. Pre Reading
b. Reviewing
c. Reading in fast
2. Scanning
It rapidly covers a great deal of material in order to locate a specific fact of piece of information. It is useful for
finding a specific name, date, statistic, or fact without reading the entire article.
3. Detailed
Where you read every word, and work to lear from the text. In this careful reading you may find it helpful to skim
first, to get a general idea, but then go back to read in detail.
Q. What are the Steps in Skimming and Scanning an Article?
Steps in Skimming:
1. Read the Title
2. Read the introduction
3. Read the 1st paragraph
4. Read sub-headings if any
5. Read the 1st sentence of each paragraph
6. Dip into the text for clues
7. Read the final paragraph
Steps in Scanning:
1. Keep in mind the word or idea, you are searching for.
2. Anticipate the form of information like numbers or proper noun.
3. Analyze the organization of content before starting the scanning.
4. Let you eyes run rapidly over several lines of print at a time.
5. Read the entire sentence.
Q. How to improve reading skill and speed?
Following way you can improve the reading skill and speed:
1. Preview before reading.
2. Use different styles of reading like skimming and scanning.
3. Use active reading method by:

6. Read in the proper environment.

When using rules regarding mechanics of writing, Parts of speech should be considerd. The following are the parts
of speech:
1. Noun
(Lahore, Pakistan, Girl, Gold, Kindness, Crowd etc)
2. Pronoun
(I, We, He, She, They, It, You etc)
3. Adjective
(Defines the quality or characteristics of noun)
4. Verb
(Expressing an Action or State)
5. Adverb
(Defines the quality of characteristics of verb)
6. Preposition
(On, at, since, for, in, by, of, etc)
7. Conjuctions
(Joining two sentences: and, but, when, neither, nor, either, or, etc)
8. Interjections
(Express the feelings: Hurrah, Alas, Oh, etc)
Q. Describe different types of writing?
1. Controlled Writing
Controlled writing activities are fundamental to teaching literacy to children or adults. It focuses on establishing
grammatical patterns, sentence structure, punctuation and word order.
Copying: Give learners a newspaper or magzine article and ask them to circle any words they do not know. Copy
that word in use them individually to increase their knowledge of words.
Lists: Make lists. Draw on the learners individual interest for topics. For example ask sports fans to make lists of
their favorite sports or players. Ask learners to make lists of their family members, ect.
Forms: Collect various forms and applications for learners to practice filling out, with their name, address and
other commonly requested information.
2. Free Writing
It is a pre-writing technique in which a person writes continously for a set of period of time without regard to
splessing, grammer, or topic. It produces raw, often unusable material. In free writing one writes sentences to form
aparagraph about whatever comes in mind. If a writer reaches a point where he cant think of anything then he
stop writing.
3. Narrative (Story / Fiction) Writing
A narrative or story is any acccount of connected events, presented to a reader or listner in a sequence of written
or spoken words, or in a sequence of moving pictures. Narrative is found in all forms of human creativity and art
including short stories, novels, films, songs, games, theature, photography, painting etc.
4. Expository (Essay) Writing
It is used to inform readers about a specific topic. This is done through giving direct in formation, and proving that
the information is correct by showing the reader what is applied to the specific ideals. This type of writing allows
authors and reader to understatn information through direct and factual writing.

Different types of expository writings are often used:


a. Descriptive essay
(Detailed information on an object or person)
b. Sequential essay
(Based on stating facts in a specific order of pattern)
c. Comparaive essay
d. Cause and effect essay
e. Problem and Solution essay
