Aim and Objectives

Aim
Introduction to basic surveying operations along its practical application.

Objectives:
- Introduction to basic surveying measurements and instruments (1 lec)
- Revision of Units and transformation between different unit systems
(distances, angles, Areas) (1 tut)

- Introduction to linear measurements (alignment, distance obstacles,


detailing) (2 lecs + 2 labs)
- Mapping (scales, map arrangement) (1 lec + 1 tut)

Objectives

Introduction

- Angular measurements using Theodolite (Basic concept, Instrument,


components, HZ and VL angles, corrections) (3 lecs + 3 labs + 1 tut)
- Computation of area using various techniques (Graphical, Computational,
semi-Computational) (1 lec + 1 tut)

- Computation of coordinates (direction and positioning) (1 lec + 1 tut)


- The use of traverse in surveying projects (Factors affecting choice of
traverse stations, calculation methods, usage) (2 lecs + 2 tuts)
Total = 11 lecs + 2 Mid Term Exams + 1 Revision
5 labs + 7 tuts + 1 Practical Exam + 1 Revision
= 14 Weeks
