Dear Dr. Winter, I have seen your dentures on your

website and they look amazing! My problem is that I
have had my dentures made 3 times and they still hurt
and rock! I have asked the dentist repeatedly to please
help me as I am in pain and must take my dentures out to
chew. Can you fix this dentists dentures so I dont have
to pay for another set! Please help me, as I cant live this
way.
Dear Ann, I am so sorry for your problems. You did
not mention if this was an immediate set of dentures
given to you the day your other teeth were removed or
simply a replacement for older dentures. There is an art
to making dentures and even with tremendous care and
skill; denture fabrication is a process that requires
patience. As people live with dentures they experience
continued bone loss. There is so much bone loss that
dentures begin to move and may actually slide during
chewing even with using denture adhesives. When teeth
are removed you actually lose up to 40% of the
remaining bone width in the first year after teeth are
removed and you can continue to lose 40-60% of the
remaining bone over the next 5 years of denture use!
The solution is to save teeth if possible and if not
practical to place mini-implants or traditional implants to
preserve the bone.
Implants preserve bone! That means that over time
dentures will not get as loose and you will chew better.
I will get back to your particular problem. Ill-fitting
dentures usually require that they be made again from
scratch. It is just too easy to change someones denture
and then feel that the changes that were made could have
made your situation worse! So most dentists will want to
start over with new impressions, brand new teeth and
mountings to try and remedy the problems you have
experienced. Trying to make your dentures fit may
actually take longer and cost a tremendous amount of
money, which would be wasted if your dentures could
not be made to be comfortable.
In rare situations, I will work with someones old
dentures to improve comfort, eliminate denture sores or
simply to create a healthy foundation for making a new

dentures to make an evaluation of how close they are to
ideal and the status of your bite and how your teeth fit
together for optimal chewing. Then I could decide if we
can do anything with your current set of teeth.

Ridge Run County Park ownership is

scheduled to be transferred to the City
of West Bend on Monday, Jan. 4, 2016.
Ridge Run was the original park in the
Washington County Park System after
land was purchased from the Pick family in 1965. Washington County park
staff have cared for, improved and
maintained this land for the past 50
years. Jay Shambeau, Washington
County
Planning
&
Parks
Administrator, recently stated "Our
county park employees have invested a
lot of time, energy and passion in
Ridge Run over the years. We take comfort in knowing that the City of West
Bend is equally committed to and has
a great track record of quality park
maintenance."
Ridge Run Park was part of a multifaceted intergovernmental agreement
approved by both municipalities earlier
this year. The designations of "Ridge
Run" and "Rettler Recreation Area" will
remain. Also, the issue of allowing
dogs on a leash has been recently
resolved with the Common Councils
approval which will be reviewed within
one year. All six shelters located within Ridge Run Park will continue to be
available to rent through the City of
West Bend beginning Jan. 4.
Washington County and West Bend
employees have met numerous times to
ensure a smooth transition. Craig
Hoeppner, West Bend Park, Recreation
and Forestry Director, "expressed his
appreciation to the county staff for
their help in making this a very
smooth transition for our staff. We
look forward to continuing to provide a
great Ridge Run experience for all of
our customers and will take pride in
maintaining this beautiful 140 acre
property."

The following report was taken from
records at the West Bend Police
Department.
Disorderly conduct, battery, drug
possession
A 37-year-old West Bend man was
taken into custody for disorderly conduct, battery, possession of a Schedule
IV narcotic and felony possession of
marijuana at 11:23 p.m. Dec. 3 in the
1200 block of Wayne Road. At this
time, officers responded to a report of
an argument in the parking lot. On
arrival, officers determined that the
aforementioned male subject had
threatened, pulled the hair of and
pushed a 38-year-old West Bend
female. The male was upset over a
missing cellular telephone he believed
the female had taken from him during
the evening. The male was also found
to be in possession of a schedule IV
controlled substance and marijuana.
He was placed in jail for the offenses.

through an exterior wall of the residence. The bullet struck an unoccupied parked vehicle in the parking lot
causing damage to the vehicle. No one
was injured during the incident. The
subject was placed in jail for endangering safety by negligent use of a
weapon and criminal damage to property.

Indecent exposure
A 40-year-old West Bend male
was arrested for indecent exposure at
10:38 a.m. Dec. 8 in the 1800 block of
S. Main Street. A 54-year-old Jackson
woman reported observing the man
sitting in a vehicle in the parking lot
with his pants down and masturbating.
The male was located at his residence
and admitted to the incident. He was
placed in jail for lewd and lascivious
behavior and disorderly conduct.

Operating while intoxicated

A 39-year-old West Bend woman
was arrested for operating while intoxicated-fifth offense (felony) with a
child in the vehicle and open intoxicants at 3:43 p.m. Dec. 9 following a
stop in the 1100 block of W.
Washington Street. The Police
Department received a call regarding
an impaired driver with an 11-year-old
child in the vehicle. The vehicle was
located and stopped and the driver was
found to be intoxicated. The female
failed the field sobriety tests and blew
.213 for her preliminary breath test.
An open intoxicant was also found in
the vehicle. The driver was arrested
and placed in jail for OWI-fifth offense
with a penalty enhancement of a child
in the motor vehicle. The driver was
also issued a citation for an open
intoxicant in the motor vehicle. The
11-year-old child was unharmed in the
incident and was turned over to the
drivers fiance at the scene.
A 33-year-old West Bends male
was arrested for operating while intoxicated-second offense and going armed
while intoxicated after he was stopped
for a traffic violation in the 1000 block
of McKinley Street. The driver was
found to be intoxicated and failed the
field sobriety tests. A loaded handgun
was located in the vehicle. He was
arrested and placed in jail.

Negligent handling of a firearm

A 29-year-old West Bend man was
arrested for negligent handling of a
firearm at 9:26 p.m. Dec. 10 in the
1700 block of Barton Avenue. The male
reported that he had unintentionally
discharged a firearm inside his residence. Investigation revealed that he
was attempting to unload a semi-auto-

Trespassing
A 21-year-old West Bend man was
cited for trespassing in a residence in
the 1600 block of Harrison Street at
1:13 a.m. Dec. 11. The male had let
himself into what he believed was his
friends home; however, the friend had
moved out of the residence in
November.

Fire
A pull station was activated at a
business in the 2600 block of
Metalcraft Road for a fire in an air ventilation system for a welding machine
at 12:39 a.m. Dec. 9. All employees
were evacuated safely and the fire was
extinguished. The cause of the fire was
determined to be the result of sparks
coming into contact with an air filter.
