1. Highly reliable integrated analysis

The ARL 9900 OASIS is designed for the
process and quality control laboratories
requiring highly reliable and integrated
analysis. Table 1 shows the analysis of a
clinker sample including free lime repeated
6 times.
The integrated XRD system of the
ARL 9900 OASIS instrument is capable of
quantifying free lime concentration in a
routine and reliable manner. The unique
technology of this system means that the
free lime analysis is highly stable and
repeatable and can be monitored on-line.
The XRF analysis can be performed
either with a series of monochromators or
with the goniometer, either universal
goniometer or SmartGonio. Table 1 proves
that fixed channels and goniometers show
very similar stability and repeatability.

2. Performance on light elements

The limits of detection and good sensitivity
achieved on both Na and Mg will satisfy
most requirements, notably in cement and
slags applications (Table 2). Fixed channels
or goniometer can be chosen for their
determination depending on the speed
of analysis required.

For an accurate routine analysis of major

and minor oxides in materials such as
cement, slags, refractories and ceramics,
Thermo has developed the General Oxide
calibration program based on the fusion
bead technique (Table 3). The materials can
be either pre-ignited or non-ignited. In the
latter case, automatic Loss on Ignition or
Gain on Ignition calculation is carried out.

4. Non-routine analysis
QuantAS is a powerful scan based
standard-less program that provides
analysis for 70 elements in 12 minutes
or less. It is ideally suited for the
characterization of different materials
not covered by routine analysis with
calibrated programs.
When the SmartGonio is fitted, the
optional OptiQuant program can be
considered. It is a version of UniQuant
that is specifically designed for use with
this innovative goniometer. It allows for
determination of up to 75 elements in all
sorts of matrices and samples. Its peak
to peak acquisition mode allows longer
counting time to be used per element which
ensures better precision of analysis.
