How do I qualify?
Mandatory
you hold a valid Ontario class 'G' driver's Licence or equivalent as recognized by the Province of
Ontario
you have the ability to obtain a valid Standard First Aid and CPR certificate
you have the ability to obtain a Pleasure Craft Operator's Card
you have the ability to pass the Ontario Hunting Licence Examination
you have the ability to successfully complete the Canadian Firearms Safety Course or successfully
challenge the exam
you have the ability to pass psychological/physical assessments to determine suitability and fitness
for the position
you have the ability to be appointed as a Conservation Officer
you have the ability to work shifts, weekends and holidays
you have the ability to travel for extended periods of time
you have the ability to work in remote and isolated locations
Note: Prior to employment, this position requires the successful candidate to pass an enhanced-level
screening check under the OPS Employment Screening Checks Policy which includes a criminal record
check (CPIC), Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) check, Niche/RMS file check (Local Police Record
check) and Credit (Equifax) check.
Enforcement skills:
you have experience enforcing legislation, policies and regulations
you have knowledge of enforcement and investigation techniques, methods and procedures to
Aboriginal knowledge:
you have knowledge of and experience with Aboriginal Peoples culture, community practices and
local language to effectively build relationships and represent the ministry within First Nations
communities.
you are able to exercise sound judgment in stressful and potentially threatening situations,
ultimately reaching peaceful solutions
you are able to promote and influence compliance with related legislation and standards
you can prepare legal court documents and provide testimony in court
you can prepare and deliver presentations to public interest groups (eg. fish and game clubs,
naturalist groups, public schools, etc.)
you can respond to requests for information verbally and in writing and deal tactfully with the public,
staff and media
General skills:
you have the ability to work independently and without direct supervision
you have the ability to independently make sound decisions
you have the ability to work as a member of a team
you have organizational and planning skills
you are proficient with a variety of computer software applications (eg. word processing,
spreadsheet, email, internet, etc.)

Requirement

and evaluated by the Negotiations & Security Branch for the purpose of making a clearance
