F. Accessibility Options
1. Voice Guidance Kit-A2
The Voice Guidance Kit-A2 option is designed to assist visually impaired
users in operating the imageRUNNER device. They will be able to select
functions on the control panel and the device will provide audible
confirmation of the selected operations through a voice guidance board.
The Voice Guidance Kit-A2 will be connected through the Expansion Bus
Board and the Voice Boards external interface will include a speaker.
2. Braille Label Kit-A1
The Braille Label Kit-A1 contains transparent Brailled labels that affix to
each hard key on the control panel except for the numeric keys. This is due
to the conventional layout of the numeric keypad, which already has a
protruded dot on the "5" key, providing familiar key entry for the visually
impaired. This kit provides visually impaired users with improved access to
copy functions.
3. ADF Access Handle-A1
The ADF Access Handle-A1 Assistant is a new accessory that can be
installed onto the Color imageRUNNER device's document feeder.
Operators who use wheelchairs, for example, may experience difficulty in
reaching a fully raised (or fully opened) document feeder. The ADF Access
Handle-A1 was designed to assist these users. The handle is designed to
hang low enough from an open document feeder so that a person in a
wheelchair can easily reach the handle and close the feeder.
4. Remote Operators Software Kit-A2
The Remote Operators Software Kit-A2 is a remote access application
used for remote desktop viewing and manipulation. Its core function is to
enable use of the client to connect to a host running the server and
remotely use the servers desktop. Snapshots of the servers desktop are
compressed and sent back to the client via the server. Through this
technology, users in wheelchairs can operate the Color imageRUNNERs
control panel functions such as Copy/Box/Send/Fax from their laptops or
personal computers.
The Remote Operator's Software Kit requires LMS activation.
5. Voice Operation Kit-A1
Enables users to set various functions of the machine using their voice
3 modes includes Voice Guide & Recognition Mode, Voice Guide Mode
and Recognition Mode

July 2007
Page 25
E. Computer Requirements
Canon USA strongly recommends that dealers have a computer (desktop or
laptop) available for use as a primary service tool to adequately service the
Color imageRUNNER device.
The following are the recommended Desktop PC or Laptop specifications 13 to
use for the download:
CPU: Celeron 400 MHz or higher
Memory: 128MB or higher of RAM
Free HDD Capacity: 1 GB or more of available hard disk space
Network Connection: 10Base-T/10Base-TX or presence of PCMCIA slot
(for Ethernet card
CD-ROM Drive (If not equipped, use network to copy from CD-ROM to
PC.)
Operating System: Windows XP/2000
Necessary Cables:
o Twisted pair Cross-Over Cable (in the case of 10Base-Tx, Category 5 or
higher)
F. Firmware Updates
A PC is required to flash firmware. Use a Network Cross-Over cable as an
interface between the personal computer and the Color imageRUNNER device
for high-speed data transmission.
G. Soft Counter
The Color imageRUNNER C5185/C4580/C4080 Series uses soft counters.
The control panel normally displays six counters when the counter check
button is pressed. The counter description can be changed, enabled, or
disabled in service mode, except for counter one. The counter one setting
cannot be changed under any circumstances. The maximum number of digits
displayed is eight.
The table below indicates the counter configurations:

H. MEAP Counter
In addition to the Soft Counter function, a MEAP Application Counter counts
the number of prints and scans per MEAP application.
There are two methods to display the MEAP Application Counter value:
The MEAP counter can be viewed from a web browser through a network
connected PC with the MEAP device by logging into the SMS
Application/License Information page.
To view the MEAP counter from the device itself, press Counter Check on
the control panel, then from the LCD screen, press the MEAP Counter
button.
Each MEAP application has its own counter. The number of applications that
can be installed on an imageRUNNER device is directly related to the number
of counters available. There are twenty (20) counters available for MEAP
applications. However, this Color imageRUNNER device uses two MEAP
application counters: one for the Portal Service and one for the optional
Universal Send. Therefore, the number of additional MEAP applications that
can be installed is eighteen. The Portal Service can be uninstalled to free up
one extra counter.
There are three types of MEAP applications:
Applet - a user interface for the application is on the control panel
of the copier.
Servlet - a remote user interface is available for the application.
Esplet - there is no user interface for the application.
Applet type applications used directly from the control panel are limited to nine
(three tabs in each pane times three panes).

L. Consumables
Consumables are all products and materials which are consumed with regular
use and cannot be reused. Such consumables include but are not limited to
paper, chemicals and toner.
A number of factors go into the approximate life expectancy of a consumable,
for example, in the case of toner yield, paper size and the amount of coverage
per page must be considered.
Note: All estimated life targets shown in the below table are estimates for
reference purposes only and are subject to change without notice. Actual
usage will vary.

Note:
The estimated drum unit life for the Color imageRUNNER
C5185/C4580/C4080 Series was established after careful consideration of the
following two factors:
1. Analysis of field drum performance data for the Color imageRUNNER
C3200/C3220 Series
2. Analysis of design improvements made to the drum unit
Some additional background for each of these two factors is detailed below.
Analysis of Field Drum Performance Data:
It is critical to note that unique customer usage patterns can affect drum part
life in the field. Therefore, estimated drum unit life data presented in this
Service Guide was calculated using the following usage guidelines for the
Color imageRUNNER C3200/C3220 Series when capturing and analyzing
drum field performance data (and it should be noted that actual results
observed in the field can vary depending upon each customers usage
patterns):
Monthly Copy Volumes of 25K for the Color imageRUNNER C5185 Series
and 16K for the imageRUNNER C4580/C4080 Series (significantly lower
monthly copy volumes will yield reduced drum life)
Image or Average Fill Ratio of 5%
Color Ratio of 70% Color / 30% B&W for the Color imageRUNNER C5185
Series and 60% Color / 40% B&W for the imageRUNNER C4580/C4080

M. Periodic Maintenance
Some parts of the machine must be checked and/or replaced on a periodic
basis to ensure a specific level of machine performance. These parts are
likely to affect the performance once they fail even in the absence of external
change or damage. Whenever possible, plan their replacement so that it will
coincide with a scheduled service visit.

THIS WARRANTY IS IN LIEU OF ALL OTHER WARRANTIES AND CONDITIONS, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING

CONDITION OR GUARANTY, EXCEPT AS MENTIONED ABOVE, GIVEN BY ANY PERSON, FIRM OR CORPORATION
WITH RESPECT TO THE PRODUCT SHALL BIND CANON OR ANY AUTHORIZED SERVICE PROVIDER. NO
WARRANTY IS GIVEN ON ANY USED PRODUCT.
This warranty shall be void and of no force and effect if the Product is damaged as a result of (a) abuse, neglect,
mishandling, alteration, electric current fluctuation or accident, (b) improper use, including failure to follow operating or

(c) installation or repair by other than authorized service representatives qualified by Canon who are acting in accordance
with Canon's service bulletins, (d) use of supplies or parts (other than those distributed by Canon) which damage the
Product or cause abnormally frequent service calls or service problems, or (e) use of the Product with non-compatible
computers, peripheral equipment or software, including the use of the Product in any system configuration not
recommended in any manual distributed with the Product. Nor does this warranty extend to any Product on which the
original identification marks or serial numbers have been defaced, removed, or altered.

THE SOFTWARE MANUFACTURER'S LICENSE AGREEMENT. CANON RECOMMENDS THAT DATA STORED ON
THE PRODUCT'S HARD DISK DRIVE BE DUPLICATED OR BACKED UP TO PREVENT ITS LOSS IN THE EVENT OF
FAILURE OR OTHER MALFUNCTION OF THE HARD DISK DRIVE.

TO USE THE PRODUCT, REGARDLESS OF THE LEGAL THEORY ON WHICH THE CLAIM IS BASED AND EVEN IF
CANON OR ANY AUTHORIZED SERVICE PROVIDER HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH
DAMAGES. NOR SHALL RECOVERY OF ANY KIND AGAINST CANON OR ANY AUTHORIZED SERVICE PROVIDER
BE GREATER IN AMOUNT THAN THE PURCHASE PRICE OF THE PRODUCT CAUSING THE ALLEGED DAMAGE.
WITHOUT LIMITING THE FOREGOING, THE PURCHASER ASSUMES ALL RISKS AND LIABILITY FOR LOSS,
DAMAGE OR INJURY TO PERSONS AND PROPERTY OF THE PURCHASER OR OTHERS ARISING OUT OF THE
POSSESSION, USE, MISUSE, OR INABILITY TO USE THE PRODUCT NOT CAUSED SOLELY AND DIRECTLY BY THE
