Seneca White Deer Inc. Kicks Off Fund Drive with a $200,000 Donation!
Canandaigua, NY: Seneca White Deer, Inc. announced today a fundraising drive to purchase a portion of the
Seneca Army Depot and transform it into the Seneca White Deer Park. A $200,000 matching challenge donation
kicks off Seneca White Deer Inc.s campaign to establish an ecotourism/conservation operation on at least several
thousand acres at the former Seneca Army Depot in Seneca County. This challenge will end on January 31, 2016.
Such an operation will maintain the miles of fencing and improve the habitat to maintain a healthy deer herd. Long
time supporters of Seneca White Deer Inc. and Finger Lakes winery owners John and Josephine Ingle stated We
are thrilled to provide a substantial donation as part of the initial appeal. This is a positive start to a campaign that
will stimulate job growth and impact the quality of life for our entire region.
Dennis Money, President of Seneca White Deer (SWD) said, Its fantastic to have major donors such as John and
Josephine Ingle. We have a seven figure fundraising target and we need the donations of all our supporters to help us
put together a realistic bid. The Seneca County Industrial Development Agency has elected to sell up to 7000 acres
of the former depot and will make a decision in early 2016.
The creation of Seneca White Deer Park will offer the largest accessible trail system for mobility and physically
challenged adults, seniors and children in New York State and will also serve as a unique tourism draw for area
veterans looking to tour this once controversial Cold War storehouse of bombs and ammunition. The depot offers a
great experience for birders, outdoor photographers, historians, wildlife researchers and outdoor recreationists such
as bikers and horseback riders. The Seneca White Deer Park would be a unique tourism attraction found only at the
Seneca Depot.
SWD plans to collaborate with The Nature Conservancy, a highly respected global and science based conservation
organization, Finger Lakes Tourism, local wineries, breweries, restaurants, hotels, bed and breakfasts and the
Seneca County Chamber of Commerce. The plan includes that a portion of all tourism dollars spent at Seneca Depot
Park will be shared with the town where the park would be located. This is in addition to the positive impact from
occupancy tax and sales tax revenues for both Seneca County and the Finger Lakes area due to increased tourism.
Seneca White Deer Inc., a 501(c) (3) not for profit organization, was formed in 1999 with the mission of conserving
the abundant wildlife as well as preserving the history of the Seneca Army Depot. SWD believes strongly that the
depot could be a positive economic engine for the Finger Lakes Region offering a unique tourism opportunity found
nowhere else in the world.
SWD feels the former Seneca Army Depot belongs to all Americans. It is a crown jewel of a natural resource filled
with abundant wildlife and a rich history. With the holiday season happening and the end of 2015 looming for tax
deduction purposes, please consider a donation for this very worthy effort. For more information on how you can
help to achieve this dream go to www.senecawhitedeer.org or call 585-394-1287.
