Incoterms or terms of international commerce are used in "contracts of sale" to provide a set of rules governing the delivery responsibilities of a seller and a buyer engaged in international
trade. They define when the seller has completed his obligation to deliver the goods and the risk for loss of or damage to the goods, as well as the costs relating to the goods, passes from
the seller to the buyer. The simplified chart below shows generally how the responsibilities related to arranging and paying for the phases of an international shipment are divided between
the seller/exporter and the buyer/importer.
