Drawing Limits
You can specify the area of your drawing, also called the limits. The drawing
limits are the outer edges of the drawing, specified in X, Y units. You need to set
only the width and length of the drawing. Together, these two measurements
create an invisible bounding rectangle for your drawing. Almost universally, the
lower-left limit is 0, 0, which is the default. Therefore, the upper-right corner
really defines the drawing size. Remember that you typically draw at life size (full
scale). Therefore, the size of your drawing should be equal to the size of the
outer extents of what youre drawing, plus a margin for a titleblock (if you plan to
add one), annotation, and dimensioning. If you want to show more than one view
of an object, as is common in both architectural and mechanical drawings, you
need to take this into account. To decide on the upper-right corner limits (the
width and length) for your drawing, you need to consider what the drawing units
mean for you. Generally, the smallest commonly used unit is used, often inches
or millimeters. Therefore, if youre drawing a plan view of a house that is
approximately 40 feet across (in the X direction) by 30 feet deep (in the Y
direction), this translates to a top-right corner of 480,360. Adding room for a
titleblock brings you to about 500,380.

Creating a Titleblock
A titleblock is a rectangle that includes spaces for the drawing title, company
name, drafter name, and so on. It generally comes with a border that bounds
your drawing. Many drawings require title blocks. You can insert an existing
titleblock in two ways:
1. When creating a new drawing, choose Application Button new to open the
Select Template dialog box. Choose one of the templates that include a
titleblock, either one that comes with AutoCAD or a custom template that you
created.
2. After you open a drawing, you can insert a drawing of a titleblock into it.
Choose Home tab Block panel Insert. In the Insert dialog box, type the name
of the drawing or block, or click Browse to find it. To insert the file or block at 0, 0
with no scaling or rotation, uncheck all the Specify On-Screen check boxes.
Check Explode if you expect to edit the inserted titleblock after its in your
drawing. Click OK.

GRID AND SNAP

The grid is a rectangular pattern of dots or lines that extend over the area you
specify as the grid limits. Using the grid is similar to placing a sheet of grid paper
under a drawing. The grid helps you align objects and visualize the distances
between them. The grid is not plotted.
Snap mode restricts the movement of the crosshairs to intervals that you define.
When Snap mode is on, the cursor seems to adhere, or "snap," to an invisible
rectangular grid. Snap is useful for specifying precise points with the arrow keys
or the pointing device. Grid mode and Snap mode are independent but are often
turned
on
at
the
same
time.

Fig; grid mode

Steps: Set the grid limits

1.

Click Format menu

Drawing Limits.

2.

At the command prompt, enter the coordinate values for a point at the
lower left corner of the grid limits.

3.

Enter the coordinate values for a point at the upper right corner of the grid
limits.

The grid limits are set to a rectangular area defined by the two points .

THEORY AND PROCEDURE:

CHANGE 2D DRAFTING ANNOTATION TO 3D MODELING.

GO TO 3D NAVIGATION AND SELECT SOUTH EAST ISOMETRIC.
THEN GIVE UCSICON COMMAND IN COMMAND BOX AND CHOOSE
NOORIGIN OPTION.
TAKE A LINE COMMAND AND CREATE THE RECTANGLE OF 118 BY 44.
THEN USE PRESS/PULL OPTION AND RAISE THE HEIGHT OF 16.
CHOOSE CONCEPTIONAL VIEW OPTION TO VIEW IN 3D ENVIRONMENT.
TO CREATE THE CIRCLE OF 44 DIAMETER COPY THE EDGE TO TAKE
REFERENCE AND TAKE THE BASE POINT DIRECTION 22 DISTANCE AND
CREATE THE CIRCLE OF 22 RADIUS.
INTERNAL CIRCLE OF RADIUS 8 IS ALSO CREATED.
REMOVE THE OUTSIDE CORNERS BY USING PRESS/PULL ,THEN IT
BECOMES LIKE

NOW TO CREATE THE INTERNAL HOLE AGAIN USE PRESS/PULL OPTION.

THEN CREATE A RECTANGLE OF LENGTH 24 BREADTH OF 16 TO THE
QUADRANT OF INNER CIRCLE.
CREATE ANOTHER CIRCLE OF RADIUS 8 AT THE OTHER SIDE OF THE
RECTANGLE AND AGAIN USE PRESS/PULL COMMAND TO REMOVE THE
UNWANTED INNER PORTION.
NOW THE HORIZONTAL PORTION IS READY.

THE UCS GO TO VIEW OPTION AND FROM COORDINATES CHOOSE THE
UNNAMED OPTION AND CLICK TO FRONT VIEW OPTION.
NOW CREATE THE SQUARE OF SIDE 48.
AGAIN USE PRESS/PULL OPTION AND GIVE THE THICKNESS OF 12.
THEN CREATE A CIRCLE OF RADIUS 24 FROM THE CENTRE OF THE
SQUARE.
CREATE ANOTHER CIRCLE OF RADIUS 10 INSIDE THE SQUARE.
REMOVE THE TWO TOP CORNER PORTION AND THE INTERNAL HOLE BY
USING THE PRESS/PULL OPTION.IT BECOMES LIKE,

NOW USE COPY COMMAND FROM THE MODIFY TOOLBAR AND COPY THE
VERTICAL OBJECT AND GIVE THE BASE POINT AND PLACE ON THE ONE
CORNER OF THE HORIZONTAL OBJECT
AND MOVE THE VERTICAL OBJECT BY GIVING THE BASE POINT AND PLACE
IT ON THE OTHER CORNER OF THE HORIZONTAL OBJECT
THE HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL OBJECTS ARE DIFFERENT SO TO MERGE
IT USE THE UNION COMMAND
IN THIS WAY THE OBJECT IS READY.
