CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background
Chilli is plant which include to genus capsicum. Chilli is easy to find in
Indonesia country. This plant which is general different flavors and none for
people of indonesia. Chili itself cannot be separated from Indonesian food, such as
padang food. Padang food typically use chili in each dish.

Chili is a popular spices, known for their function as a food flavouring and also
medicinal benefiting properties. As the most commodities in demand and sought
after, chili always fluctuated in its development. Here are a few tables and chart
about chili, its price, consumption, and various other problems that often occur.

From the figure above, sumatra region occupy second rank in 2012 after
Java region. Table 4.36 looking about the chili consumption in Indonesia from
2008 until 2012.

From the table above, we know the average consumption is high. But,
there are some chilis type which decrease from year to another year.
Table 4.35 shows world grade for chili production. There are top 10
according to the FAOSTAT.

From the table above, we can see Indonesia is one of country that have
contribute for chili production in the world. The first rank is placed by China
while Indonesia in 4th rank.

One problem which often occurs in plantation chili is a way to harvest chilli.
Chili grew up in the boughs chili and taken to the way quoted use our hands.
Another way to take chili is to use scissors. However, the two ways are still need a
long period of time and skills to a good chili quoted quickly. Other problems is the
number chili that fell in vain to the ground. This makes farmers loss because many
chili banished.

For that reason we design chili handcutters tool that allows farmers chili in
harvest chili quickly without any chili that fell to the ground. This device combine
quotes chili with its fore- and scissors. With this device production rate will
increase and increase farmers' welfare chili.

1.3 Outcomes
1. Chilli handcutters able to be solution for harvesting chilli in Indonesia
2. These tools can increase production rates of chilli

2.2 Function Analysis Method

In Function Analysis Method the functions must be separated into subfunctions. For chili handcutter following by :

2.3 Designing of Chili Handcutter
For designing this device, there are some steps to realize the device.
The steps are : Making Concept, Design Specification, Positioning,
and Engineering Drawing. For easy to understand, we make the
flowchart below :

2.3.1 Making Concept
For making concept, we just adopt the principle of scissor to
cutting the chili. After that using sack for collecting the chili. We using
objective tree diagram for making the concept.

2.3.2 Design Specification
Chili Handcutter using cheap material and also easy to
manufacture. So, there are some general specification for our device :

2.3.3 Positioning
For determining the position of device is depend on the function of
parts. So, we make a positioning like this figure below :
