Cracks in the drum flange gear

Abnormal noise from the cleaning assembly frame unit

<Cause>

Cracks in the Drum Flange Gear

If the waste toner tube at the rear of the copier is squashed or the waste toner case is full, waste
toner can become trapped inside the waste toner pipe of the cleaning assembly frame unit. If copies
are continued to be made in this condition, the following symptoms can occur:
1) The trapped waste toner can push the toner feeding screw to the front, causing it to slide into
the screw seal at the front of the cleaning assembly frame unit, ultimately making the screw seal
wrap around the toner feed screw.
2) The screw seal, once it has wrapped around the feed screw, serves to impose a load on the feed
screw and the rotation of the drum.
3) The drum unit subjected to a load can give in the presence of the drive from the process drive
unit, causing the flange gear to crack.

Abnormal Noise from the Cleaning Assembly Frame Unit

The waste toner pipe serves as the fulcrum for the rear of the toner feed screw. Although it is fixed
in place with two screws to the cleaner side plate (rear), it can start to tilt at items. If it starts to tilt,
the fulcrum at the rear of the toner feed screw will become displaced, causing contact against the
cleaner case and, ultimately, abnormal noise.

<Factory measure>

Cracks in the Drum Flange
The toner feed screw can slide into the screw seal, and the seal can start to wrap around the screw.
To prevent the problem, a screw washer is added.

Abnormal Noise from he Cleaning Assembly Frame Unit

To ensure that the waste toner pipe is fixed firmly in place, ribs are added to the cleaner
side plate (rear) and, at the same time, rib plats are added to the waste toner pipe, thereby
supporting the pipe by three points instead of two.

Servicing

If any of the foregoing conditions has occurred, be sure to replace the cleaning assembly frame unit
with a modified version.

Points to Note for Servicing :

As indicated in the Service Manual, be sure to replace the following periodically replaced parts as
scheduled and inspect the appropriate consumables:
Waste toner bottle (periodically replaced part)
every 30,000 copies*
Drum Cleaning assembly Frame Unit (consumable)
every 20,00 copies
(*Based on A2.)

During a service visit, check the waste toner tube at the rear of the copier, and replace it if
squashed.
