Wheel after t seconds since a rider gets on the ride at its lowest point 1 m above level ground.
a. State the individual transformations that are required to generate the above function. [6.4 & 6.5]
b. Using your knowledge of transformations, graph the function.

[6.4 & 6.5]
c. Use the equation of the function to determine when a rider will be 14 m above the horizontal for
the 7th time if the rider gets on the Ferris Wheel at its lowest point.

a. Determine tonights sunset time (i.e. December 17)
b. Sketch the above function highlighting key points (i.e. earliest, latest, and average sunsets)
starting from January 1st to December 31st of any given year.
c. Provide approximate dates when the sun sets at 7:30 pm using your equations.

7. A brand new ride recently opened at Sintrigusoidal Park called the Submerging Wheel. The wheel has a
radius of 10 m with 2 m submerged. The wheel requires 2 minutes to complete a full rotation. Time is
measured from when point P, on the rim of the wheel is at its maximum height above the surface of the
water.
a. Determine an equation that describes height, h, in metres as a function of time, t, in minutes.
b. Determine how long it will to reach the surface of the water for the 10th time.
c. How long does any given rider have to hold his/her breath underwater during any given
rotation?
