Patron Dragon

Croeso y Cymru
The basic outline of this story is as follows: Rhonabwy (Welsh Great Dragon, lairs around
Llandovery) is a patron of the premier choral singer in Wales, a tenor by the name of Ieuan
(pronounced Ewen) Jones. Unfortunately, Mr. Jones has a very bad case of the beetles (Better
Than Life chip addiction), and is currently being blackmailed by a gang of thugs that turf out of
The Royal Oak, a pub in Pembrokeshire. These gangers were tipped off to the BTL fix, and
directed in the actual set-up of the blackmail by a member of the Black Lodge (an organization
founded in the original Freemasons and Knights Templar) who is involved in Welsh politics, Mr.
Patrick Davies.
Mr. Davies learned about the BTL problem through the Stage Director of the Welsh
Choral Society (WCS), a lady named Elsie Hughes. Ms. Hughes, a 23 year old protg whose
stellar rise in the organization is based solely on her policy of stepping up the ladder on anyones
head. She learned of the addiction as an intern backstage, where she discovered Mr. Jones in a
BTL induced coma. She has saved this information until the time came that it was useful. Ms.
Hughes was contacted by the Lodge during their attempts to find any dirt on Mr. Jones available.
She has been promised that her name will top the list as the next WCS director. Unfortunately
she does not know that her name is now on the top of the list of disposable assets, and will be
targeted for elimination if Mr. Davies finds her in any way a liability.
The Black Lodge hopes to be able to use this blackmail and BTL situation to damage
Rhonabwys reputation, enough to be able to push through an item that will allow Mr. Davies land
development program access to prime land previously under Rhonabwys control. This land, a
three hundred acre bog where the town of Swansea used to be, is considered to be unusable. It
is unusable for real estate in the classic sense. However, Mr. Davies and the Black Lodge have
discovered the location of a Ley Nexus (a crossing of mana lines, and a very powerful site) deep
in the middle of the Swansea Sewer, but have no access to it while this land is under the
guardianship of the Great Dragon.

There is currently under review by the Ministry of State for the Environment a proposal by
Phillips Land Management and Development, Inc. (owned and managed by high echelon
members in the Black Lodge) contesting the ownership of Swansea by Rhonabwy. However,
their case is weak, and an over-blown media blitz on Rhonabwys Tenor could definitely sway
the opinion of the judges involved in the case.
Enter the player characters. In an attempt to settle this problem without exposing it,
Rhonabwy has contracted out for trouble-shooters, i.e. shadowrunners, from outside of the
United Kingdom. Outsiders could disrupt (or blow the hell out of) the blackmailers attempts
without being linked to Rhonabwy. If this group should be linked to the Great Dragon,
Rhonabwys reputation would still be affected, and the blackmail would have served its original
purpose. It is extremely important, therefore, that the group be careful not to disclose their
purpose in the UK, or who theyre working for. Luckily, since they wont know who their patron is,
they wont be able to talk about it.
The gang, brawdoliaeth (the brotherhood), is a very political, Wales for the Welsh,
ethnic gang. They speak only Cymraeg (native Welsh, pronounced Kumree), and while they
have no race issues (several of the gang members are meta-humans) they pretend at a poli-club.
Unfortunately, Brawdoliaeths current leader, Metelaidd (metallic) has very extremist views, and is

transitioning the gang to a terrorist oriented, IRA style. The Black Lodges support for the gang
has only been an occasional hint of heddlu (police) activities and information about leading
British politicians and judges in and around Cardiff, the capitol of Wales.
Brawdoliaeth has no idea of the relation between Rhonabwy and Ieuan Jones (they are
nothing if not uncultured), and would be very distressed at the thought of interfering in the
dragons business. They have been led to believe that Jones has familial connections with British
Parliament (as a distant third cousin to the Prime Minister, a fact that will quickly show false with
any in-depth research), and are blackmailing him to gain leverage. Their current demands are
monetary, with no intent to expose Jones until Metelaidd can work out some kind of plan to use
him politically. Fortunately, Metelaidd has no talent in the political arena, and currently has no
idea how to use the tenor. He talks around the subject when questioned about it by other gang
members, and says that it isnt time yet we need more cash first.
The player characters, of course, have no idea that their current Johnson is a Welsh
Great Dragon. The only information they will be given is that person or persons unknown are
blackmailing an associate of the person who briefs them on the plane ride to London Heathrow.
Rhonabwy will manifest physically as a well dressed but very ordinary individual on-board the
private jet that is shuttling the group to England. His aura is very well masked, but very careful
scrutiny (which the dragon will notice, and not like at all) will give the viewer an idea of the
magnitude of creature that sits on this plane with them.
Once in the U.K., the characters are on their own. The personal equipment and weapons
that they bring with them are carefully routed around customs (Extraterritorial status leased out
as a personal favor to Rhonabwy) and will be available for pickup in Haverfordwest, a town well
outside and west of the dragons lair, at a garage called Cyrchu Gwybodaeth. The contact there
is Michelle Macsen (human female, 35, welsh, rigger). Ask for bara crystiog. Shes got their
stuff, but hasnt been paid for the storage. Someone owes her 3000 (approximately 300) or
theyre not getting their stuff. Needless to say, Ms. Macsen has no idea what is in the crates.
The exchange rates vary around 10.00 per nuyen. To convert nuyen to Euros, simply
multiply by 10. Exchange services use a rate of 8.00 per, to reflect service tax. Most rural

businesses in Wales use hard currency Euro. Only in major metropolitan cities is the nuyen
accepted and considered the standard. Coins are used in increments similar to current U.S.
coins, except that the one euro note has been completely phased out with a 1 coin roughly the
size of a U.S. quarter, but twice the width, colored gold. Paper money is incremented in the same
fashion as American bills. Selling back Euros to Nuyen runs at about 12:1 rate, also due to
service tax.
There is no transportation grid, or GridGuide service, but most Welsh roads are of
excellent quality. Non U.K. drivers will find getting used to driving on the opposite side of the road
fairly easy, but roundabouts will be a challenge at first. Car rental rates are expensive, but
include insurance and limited medical coverage, which is exclusively CrashCart. If any tourist
has a current, valid DocWagon contract, it will be honored to the same standards. However, to
make the DocWagon bracelet work, individuals must contact their local CrashCart provider to
furnish them with the frequency and particulars of their DocWagon contract.

The customs inspection should pose no danger to the team, as long as they dont have
any illegal (i.e. security or military grade cyber or computers) equipment. Any excessive customs
concerns shall require additional identification checks. The IDs that are supplied to them by
Rhonabwy are level 6; the customs data checker operates at level 4. For simplicities sake, use
Seattles legal framework.
The cover that the team will be operating under will be as security consultants for a
private biological research firm, Bioleg y Mr (Marine Biology). This is a Novatech owned
company, being used as cover as part of a favor owed to Rhonabwy (in addition to the re-routing
of the PCs baggage) by a major corporate player in Novatech.

2) Advance upon taking the job: 15,000, up to 20,000

2) Keeping Mr. Jones addiction out of the media: 2000 per PC
3) Flawless mission (i.e. all tasks completed with no media attention or exposure): +20,000
NON CASH REWARDS:
1) If successful, they will unofficially be under the eye of Rhonabwy. She will be watching their
careers with the aim of future employment
2) If the team somehow is wildly successful, then each member (at some time in the future) will
be individually rewarded by Rhonabwy. This reward could manifest several different ways,
depending on her mood. The following are examples:
A) A gift of some item or artifact that the dragon believes could help the PC out in some
way.
B) A Great Form spirit overwatch will be dispatched to the individual at some time in the
future that the PC is in need

C) Arrangements will be made for the PC to meet with a Contact that will directly benefit
the character. This contact will be made to understand that the PC is owed a favor through
third-party means
D) If needed, any SIN or criminal record possessed by the PC will be deleted. This
particular favor is huge, and will require resources that Rhonabwy does not spend lightly. This
will be held for the most deserving PC, and can be set aside for a later date if necessary.
On the other hand, if this entire operation goes haywire, and Mr. Jones addiction, his ties
to Rhonabwy, or the loss of Swansea to the Black lodge, or even all three of these things happen,
the dragon will take direct action to minimize the damage, and eliminate the PC group.
Ensure you understand that there have been no arrangements made to extricate the
group from Wales, successful or not. This is intentional. Let the PCs figure it out on their own.
