Modes of Filter
1. Drain: It is used to empty the pool. Water by-passes the filter & is ejected
from the drain port.
2. Filter: Used to divert the water through the filtering system. This mode is used
to clean the pool. Run the pump in this mode for at least 5-6 hours a day.
3. Rinse: Used to clean the filter & help the filters sand (The filter is filled with a
filter sand) settle & stabilize.
4. Whirlpool: The water is simply recirculated without filtration.
5. Backwash: Used to empty the contents of the filtration & piping system.
6. Closed: Used to seal all entry & exit points of the filter system. Do NOT
operate the pump in this mode.
To switch modes, press the lever downwards on the round knob part & rotate it.

Chlorinating the pool

250gm of Chlorinating agent should be added daily at sunset

After addition of chlorination agent, any insects on the water surface would
die. So if the insects are present, it is an indication that the agent hasnt been
added or the quantity is less.

Another strong indicator of inadequate chlorination is the formation of algae.

This takes place in several stages. If the pool is well maintained, the water will
appear clear blue. As algae formation begins the clarity of the pool water
begins to go down turning yellowish. Slowly the colour of the water changes
from clear blue to yellowish to green. This process will take place over a few
days.

To regain the clear blue colour, it is necessary to add a significant amount of

chlorine, the amount ranging from 2x to 3x normal concentration. After this,
the pump must be switched on with the filter set to whirlpool for a few hours.
This churns the water ensuring the chlorine is evenly distributed.

After 3-4 hours, switch the filter to filter mode

After a while the algae will get deposited on the bottom. Proceed to
vacuuming of the pool.

Note:
1. There are different types of agents available for pool cleaning. Two
main types of agents are:
a) Chlorinating agents: They release chlorine in the water, killing
bacteria. Available in several forms (powdered, granular etc)
Granular being the best as it releases chlorine effectively without
forming a layer on the bottom of the pool.
b) Bleaching agents: They have to be used in copious amounts.
Generally available in a powdered form which settles at the
bottom of the pool & is difficult to vacuum out. Also the powder
accumulates in the filter choking it in the long run. Cheaper, but
should be avoided.
2. Chlorinating agents are to be preferred over bleaching agents.
3. Chlorination as well as filtration should be done every day.

Filtration & Vacuuming

Consists to 4 activities:
o Debris removal
o Vacuuming of the pool (daily)
o Cleaning of filter (weekly)
o Cleaning of pump strainer (monthly)

Pool surface should be kept clear everyday using the net

Pool should be vacuumed every day

For vacuuming, the water level should be maintained above level of half of the
inlets

The pump should be run with the filter set in filter mode for at least 5-6 hours
a day

The pump CAN be left in filter mode with the valves going in & out of the
filtration system as well as the pumps open

The pump should NOT be run in closed mode. Ever.

Debris removal

Using the net, remove all debris (insects, twigs, leaves etc.) from the water
surface.

The sides of the pool i.e. the pool walls must be scrubbed to remove algae.
This can be done using the brush.

Vacuuming the pool

1. First open the inlet valve to the pump

2. Open the outlet valve

3. Switch the Filter setting to filter mode, the filter mode makes water from the
filter pass through the filtration system

4. Connect the suction tube to the rod & extend the rod to maximum length
5. Fill the tube completely with water. Without filling the tube, effective suction
will not take place
6. Fix the tube into suction inlet
7. Start pump

8. Vacuum entire length of the pool starting from one corner

After Vacuuming:
1. Switch off pump
2. Close inlet & outlet valves of pump

3. Switch the Filter to closed mode. Do NOT operate the pump in this mode.

4. Disconnect the tube & rod (keep in storage area after emptying the tube)

Cleaning the filter

The filtration system gets choked after a while & needs to be cleaned itself.
This is done with the help of the following procedure.

The process itself contains of 2 major steps in the following order:

1. Backwash
2. Rinsing

Both of these steps is important. Their function is explained within the

procedure.

1. Open all inlet & outlet ports of the pump

2. Switch the filter to backwash mode. The backwash mode purges the filtration
system (pipes, pump etc.) of the accumulated debris & dirt by throwing out
water from within it.
3. Switch the pump on. Dirty water will be ejected from the filtration system. Run
till the water coming out is clear.

4. Switch the pump off as soon as the water starts getting clear
5. Switch filter to Rinse mode. The rinse mode cleans the filter itself by purging
the content of the filter entirely. It also helps stabilize the filter sand. (The filter
contain filtration sand)

6. Switch on the pump. Dirty water & any foreign material present in the filter
shall be ejected. Switch off the pump after 30 seconds.
7. Switch the filter to closed mode. Do NOT operate the pump in this mode.
8. Close all pump inlet & outlets

Cleaning the pump strainer

As the pump pulls the water from the pool, it also draws in debris such as
stones or any other object.

This if it makes its way into the pump, can seriously damage it. Hence a
strainer is provided to strain the water.

The strainer needs to be cleared regularly to allow efficient running of the

pump for good cleaning.
To clean the strainer:

1. Make sure the pump is switched off

2. Switch the filter to closed mode. This will prevent water from the filter
entering the pump due to back flow.

3. Shut all the valves leading water to & from the pump. This will prevent water
from the pool from draining into the pump room.

4. Open the strainer cap by rotating it anti-clockwise.

5. Once opened, remove the rubber gasket & keep it aside safely.

6. Pull out the strainer & clean is thoroughly. Remove all stones & any other
foreign bodies from the mesh.

7. Clean the strainer chamber as well by hand.

8. Insert the strainer back into position.

9. Replace the gasket into position
10. Close the strainer cap & tighten it to maximum position.

11. Switch the filter from closed to filter mode. This will cause water from the
filter to enter the pump. Check for any leaks.

12. Open the valves leading to & from the pump slowly whilst constantly checking
for any leakage.
10

13. If no leakage is found switch the pump from filter to closed mode.
If leakage is found shut all valves, repeat procedure. Do NOT operate the
pump when filter is in closed mode.

Draining the pool

In case the entire pool needs to be drained.

Before conducting this, perform filter cleaning as explained above.

To drain:
1. First open the inlet valve to the pump

2. Open the outlet valve

3. Switch the Filter setting to drain mode, this empties the pool. Note that this
mode by-passes the filtration system.

4. Start pump

5. Shut pump once pool is drained.

6. Return all valves to closed position.
7. Return the filter to closed position.
