the decision of KESCo to refrain from power cut on Diwali (October 22 and 23). It was a boon to people who openly indulged in using lights to decorating their homes. The city was glittering with lights all through the night and the buildings were aesthetically decorated. Especially the government buildings which remain in utter neglect on occasions on Thursday were
shimmering with multicoloured lights. The decision to
exempt Kanpur for at least two days comes in the wake of the special request made by the District Magistrate, Dr Roshan Jacob who had made a special request for allowing round-theclock power supply on festival. She also warned the officials of KESCo to ensure that the faults were repaired immediately and every step was taken to ensure there was no overloading of the transformers. It may be mentioned here
that Kanpur reels under power
outages between 6 and 12 hours a day which included breakdowns and time taken to replace the transformers. The two-day uninterrupted power supply clearly proves that if the Samajwadi Party Government wanted it could supply 24 hours power supply by purchasing power on the market rate from NTPC and supplying to the consumers. If this can be done this day then it could also be done on all days.
However, the city was
sprawling with lights on account of the magnanimity of KESCo who had been given directives by the UPPCL to ensure there was no power cut. One thing one fails to understand was that when there was round-the-clock power supply and the load had peaked dangerously still there was no report of any fault from any part of the city but during the power cut period there was massive power breakdowns.

Chinese firecrackers become the craze in Kanpur city.

rom the time Prime
Minister, Narendra Modi, visited China extending his friendship with China the Indian markets were inundated with Chinese goods especially multicoloured lights this Diwali and they were giving tough time to the traditional potters who sold earthen diyas Majority of the Kanpurites decorated their homes with cheap, multicoloured Chinese lights, whose market demand has increased manifold compared to the earthen lamps or the existing Indian multicoloured lights which were not only inferior in quality but expensive as well 90 per cent of the shops were flooded with Chinese goods. Most of the customers preferred Chinese lights because they were affordable and much better quality than India. Kamlesh Kumar said The Indian manufacturers know that Indians will purchase the

The president of the Uttar Pradesh Udyog Vyapar Mandal , Shyam Bihari Mishra, said Chinese goods were adversely affected the Indian traders. He said China was dumping it products in India and the peope were grabbing for their products. President of the Uttar Pradesh Udyog Vyapar Mandal, Shyam Bihari Mishra, said dumping was a kind of predatory pricing, especially in the context of internationaltrade and occurred when manufacturers export a product to another country at a price either below the price charged in its home market or below its cost of production. He said this was often referred to as selling at less than normal value on the same level of trade in the ordinary course of trade. President of the Uttar Pradesh Udyog Vyapar Mandal, Shyam Bihari Mishra, said under the World Trade Organisation (WTO) agreement, dumping was condemned (but is not prohibited) if it caused or threatened to cause material injury to a domestic industry in the importing country. He said according to government figures, Chinese imports leapt from US $ 32.45 billion (Rs 146,005 crore) in 2008/09 to US $ 52.25 billion (Rs 3,13,500 crore) in 2012/13. President of the Uttar Pradesh Udyog Vyapar Mandal, Shyam Bihari Mishra said in August 2014 Chinese products which were confined to low value and low cost products like toys and crackers to high-value items like electronics and machinery. He said the import portfolio had also expanded across product categories like gift sets, glasses, bathroom fittings, builder hardware, furniture and ceramics. President of the Uttar Pradesh Udyog Vyapar Mandal, Shyam Bihari Mishra said if we call this Diwali as Chinese Diwali for Kanpurites will not be any exaggeration. He said despite being sans any warranty people go for the products more because they were very cheap and work perfectly for at least one season.
