A key purpose of registering a trailer is to ensure that its design, construction and equipment meet safety
and environmental standards.
This pack is designed to assist you when registering a trailer in Victoria.
When registering, you do not need to bring your trailer to a VicRoads Customer Service Centre for inspection
if you ensure that it meets all requirements Vehicle Standards Bulletin 1 Building SmallTrailers (VSB1) available
at infrastructure.gov.au
your trailer has an ATM of more than 750kg - you need to use the Vehicle registration form and make an appointment
to have the trailer inspected for registration at a VicRoads Customer Service Centre.
you are buying a used trailer that is currently registered - you need to use the Application for a transfer of registration form.

The following information may also assist you when registering your trailer.
3. Pig trailer
A trailer with one axle group or single axle near the middle of its load-carrying surface and connects to the vehicle towing
it by a drawbar.
4. Tare mass
Tare mass means the unladen mass of the trailer when it is in ordinary running condition and not carrying
any load (eg goods).
