FOOTBALL PROPHECY
NFL KEY RELEASES
OAKLAND over Kansas City
RATING: 3
RATING: 4
RATING: 4
RATING: 5
RATING: 5
KANSAS CITY 23 - Oakland 22 - (1:00) -- Nine straight wins for the Chiefs, who
need a win here, or a Denver loss, for playoff host role. Got by Cleveland last
week, despite a 368-258 yd deficit (232-136 overland shortage). So a 7-2 ATS
run (+103 pts ATS), but staring at revenge here, as they were outgained by 129
yds in earlier 34-20 win over the Raiders. And note the visitor on a 32-9 ATS
run in KC games. Oakland: shot at 8-8 season, with Carr now at 31/12. The
division visitor 5-0 ATS in Chief gms this year & 5-0 ATS in Raider tilts as well.
INDIANAPOLIS 22 - Tennessee 20 - (1:00) -- Loss of Mariotta is the icing on the
cake for this dismal Titan season, which certainly didn't start out that way with
opening day 42-14 rout of the Bucs. Averaging just 9.9 ppg in 9 of their last 11
outings, & on a 0-6-1 ATS run, scoring under 17 pts on 10 occasions. And try
7 TOs the past 2 weeks. The Colts are barely alive, but are out if Cincy beats
Denver on Monday. Luck still a question, & Hasselbeck now hurting. Check a
124-54 pt deficit in their last 4 games. We don't get anywhere near this game.
Washington 23 - DALLAS 19 - (1:00) -- From worst to first for the Redskins, who
have clinched the NFC East with 3 straight wins, coupled with demise of the
rest of this sorry division. Check 'Skin QB Cousins with 8 TDs & no picks the
past 2 weeks. That one pushed the dog edge to 5-0 ATS (+38 pts) in Wash
games. The 'Boys are 1-10 SU without Romo, having been held below 20 pts
in their last 5 games. 'Skins are 12-2 ATS in Dec, off a pair of SU/ATS wins, &
6-1 ATS off 3 covers, as well as 7-0 ATS on the road off a DD division cover.
Detroit 20 - CHICAGO 17 - (1:00) -- Battle for NFC North cellar, with both teams
at 6-9. A nice recovery for the Lions, who are on a 5-2 run, both SU & ATS, &
who have topped 100 RYs for 6 straight games. So an obvious improvement in
that column, complementing Stafford, who has been solid, such as 51-of-62 in
his last 2 games, albeit vs Saints & Niners (32nd & 27th "D"s). Bears snapped
3-game slide, with win over Bucs (3-0 TO edge, & 174 RYs (most since their
opener). The dog is 9-1-2 ATS in Chicago contests, so why not yet another?
NEW YORK GIANTS 34 - Philadelphia 33 - (1:00) -- Oh, how quickly these 2
have fallen. A 1-5 SU slide for the Giants, topped off by that embarrassing rout
at Minny, with 3 Eli picks the main culprit, as Viking TDs came on drives that
took 2:04, 0:42, 2:31, & 1:43, along with a 35-yd pick-six. So just a 5-yd deficit,
but a 32-pt loss, after 7-of-8 previous NY losses didn't top 6 pts. Eagles a 6-0
TO deficit in allowing 76 pts the past 2 weeks. And they've allowed 38+ pts in
4 of their last 6. Giants 1-7 ATS hosting Philly, & 2-7 ATS off allowing >34 pts.
Minnesota 27 - GREEN BAY 24 - (1:00) -- This is for the NFC North crown, with
the Packers already assured of a playoff spot. GreenBay suddenly reeling, as
753-471 yd deficit over the past 2 weeks aptly demonstrates. Check Rodgers
being sacked 8 times in wipeout loss to Arizona. But he is still brilliant 30/7 for
the year & 60.4%. This is a revenge shot for Vikes, who were taken to the
woodshed in earlier 30-13 loss, despite a 342-320 yd edge. Minny is a splendid
20-5 ATS currently, & 10-2 ATS away. Zimmer 9-1 ATS as a dog vs .500+ foes.
DENVER 23 - San Diego 20 - (4:25) -- The fortunes of the Broncos has changed
a bit, as their seemingly smooth waltz into the playoffs has suddenly swerved,
with onrushing Chiefs & Jets, along with blowing that 27-10 lead at Pittsburgh,
as Osweiler's 2nd half performance was polar opposite of his opening half. The
dog is 8-2 ATS when Denver is host, which meshes nicely with the fact that the
visitor is on 11-1 & 17-4 ATS runs in SanDiego contests. Rivers: 4,504 PYs &
66.5%, but no rushing "O". Chargers are 7-1 ATS when visiting Denver. Ditto.
SAN FRANCISCO 19 - St Louis 16 - (4:25) -- This marks just the 2nd time in the
last 5 years that the Rams have been installed as road chalks (24-0 rout of
Washington, as 3-pt favs last year). Quite a job they did on streaking Seahawks,
with 5 sacks of Wilson, along with 3 takeaways. So a 3-game SU/ATS run,
altho an 822-526 yd deficit the last 2 weeks, & a 186-123 pt deficit in their last
8 games. Bucking trend which has seen 9 of Niners' 11 losses coming by at
least 14 pts. But the Rams are 0-12 ATS as chalks vs avenging division foes.
Seattle 27 - ARIZONA 17 - (4:25) -- Nine straight wins for the Cards, who have
emerged as the best of the pack of late. Palmer (4,542 yds, 34/10) leads the
NFL's top-ranked "O", & check a "D" which sacked Packers' Rodgers 9 times,
3 by Freeney. Seahawks' 25-game run with 100+ RYs snapped in loss to the
Rams, never leading (1st time since Wilson became starting QB). The visitor
is 9-3 ATS in Arizona contests, & Seattle has the revenge hammer. No reason
for top Card performers to stay very long in what appears as meaningless gm.
New York Jets 23 - BUFFALO 16 - (1:00) -- You think the Bills' fans might miss
Doug Marrone a bit? Need this for a non-losing campaign, which isn't exactly
what Ryan promised. Another 236 RYs for the league's top overland squad, &
Taylor now 20/6 (64%). But the won/loss column a disappointment. A win in
this, & the Jets secure a Wild Card slot. Five straight wins, with a 626-302 RY
edge, & Fitzpatrick 13/1. NY is 7-1 ATS in division play, altho its last 2 RGs
have been decided by & 0 pts ATS. Also the Jets are 8-0 ATS in Dec off a SU
dog win, vs an opponent off a HG. And the Bills are 1-6 ATS in 2nd of 2 HGs.
CAROLINA 37 - Tampa Bay 17 - (1:00) -- Well, the dreams of immortality has
now been dashed. Break open the champagne, you '72 Dolphins. It all went
wrong for Panthers in loss to Falcons, failing to reach 100 RYs for the 1st time
in their last 17 games, failing to score a TD over the final 54:18 & failing to reach
27 pts for 1st time in 13 games. No Cam TD passes for just the 2nd time all yr.
So now on 15-1 & 19-2 SU regular season runs. Bucs have also seen their
hopes dashed with current 3-game slide. Fifth straight losing season assured.
Carolina 7-1 ATS at home off an upset loss, & 9-2 ATS as fav of 8 or more pts.
New England 27 - MIAMI 22 - (1:00) -- With first-round bye in the bag, not much
reason for Pats to play any of their walking wounded, altho the Dolphins hardly
strike fear in their opponents' hearts. Three straight losses for Miami, with an
embarrassing 232-143 pt deficit in their last 9 contests, as accompanying 1-8
ATS (2-7 SU) record attests. And to look at the wider picture, try a 4-16 ATS
run, since the tail end of the '14 season. The Pats are still at 31.3 ppg in their
last 18 outings, & Brady normal solid self: 36/7. But Miami is 12-4 ATS as a
Dec dog vs an opponent off a SU loss, & 6-0 ATS as division host with revenge.
CINCINNATI 23 - Baltimore 20 - (1:00) -- Well, what do you know, there's life in
these Ravens, at least for a day, with upset of smoking Steelers, holding Pitt to
mere 17 pts, after it had reached 30 pts in its previous 6 games. So 10 losses
for Baltimore, with 7 of those 10 coming by 5 pts or less. Mallett was breath of
fresh air at QB, with career-high 274 yds (28-of-41). Note Ravens previous 5
covers had come by <2 pts (13 pts vs Pitt). Cincy still an iffy proposition, with
Dalton in sick bay (13 FDs vs SanFran). But note that Lewis is 8-1 ATS vs a
<.500 team off an upset win. Bengals +78 pts ATS this yr, but up in the air.
ATLANTA 31 - New Orleans 30 - (1:00) -- Can you believe it? This Falcon squad
is still alive in the playoff hunt, despite a 6-game losing streak, & averaging only
15.4 ppg in its L9 gms. Matty Ice a nice 306 PYs in upset of previously perfect
Carolina, while that Falcons held Cam without a TD pass for just the 2nd time
all year. Can they keep it going vs the sticky Saints? Well, they are 3-0 ATS as
series hosts currently. But ointment fly shows Atlanta at 2-9 ATS host off pair of
SU/ATS wins. Brees continues to amaze (3/0 LW & 31/11 this yr), with 4,000+
PYs past 10 years, & only 4th QB to reach 60,000 PYs. Little breathing room.
HOUSTON 24 - Jacksonville 13 - (1:00) -- A win here, or a Cincy win over the
Broncos previous Monday clinches AFC South for Texans, who are on a 6-2
stretch run, both SU & ATS. Check out that Houston "D" the past 2 wks: 16 pts
& 27 FDs. And Weeden providing much-needed overhead production (2/0 in
rout of Titans). By the way, that win over Tennessee moved the chalk edge in
Texan games of late to 21-11 ATS. The Jags have a 134-119 pt edge in their
last 4 games, as Bortles continues along (35/16). Houston is 14-1 ATS vs a
<.500 division foe off a RG, while Bradley is 0-4 ATS vs foes off 2 SU/ATS wins.
Pittsburgh 31 - CLEVELAND 27 - (1:00) -- Steelers are suddenly hanging by a
thread, with shocking loss at Baltimore, directly on the heels of their stunning
comeback win over the Broncos. That snapped a 10-game Dec winning streak
for Pittsburgh, as Roethlisberger came from 337 PYpg to a mere 215 yds, with
2 picks, & no TDs. The Brownies in off a 110-yd edge over the Chiefs, but their

12th loss. A 243-129 pt deficit in their last 9 games, & Manziel just 13-of-32, We know that the bowl season hasn't reached the halfway point, as we go to
but 108 RYs, with Browns 230+ RYs 2-of-last-3. Steelers are 1-7 ATS as RFs press. A 12-6 record in first 18 is a nice beginning. Our Phone 4 Stars split,

ANALYSIS
Are the Seminoles of Florida State familiar with the bowl scene? Try 34 straight
years. Absolutely astounding, even especially when one considers that 20 of
those 34 teams reached the 10-win mark, with this edition just the latest. The
word "rebuilding" was most frequently used descriptive of this year's hopefuls, as
they lost 11 starters from last year's national-playoff squad, which followed '13's
national title team. Replacing Winston et al, was a tall order, but HC Fisher had
them at 6-0, 9th in the nation, & thinking playoffs, before a backbreaking loss to
GaTech, which saw the Jackets block game-winning 'Nole FG, & return it for a TD
as time expired. But they would wind up at #9, stumbling only once more, against
#1 Clemson, 23-13, tho it was 13-13 halfway through the 4th. They are led by the
indomitable Cook, who might be the best runner in the land, with 46 runs of at
least 20 yds,& is 2nd in the nation at 150.7 ypg. And Maguire has done well in
replacing Golson at QB. Also note a "D" which ranks 5th & 15th in scoring & total.
No national title on the line, but this team is plenty motivated for this, after cross of
LY's semi-final embarrassment vs Oregon. For the Cougars of Houston, this
makes 8 bowls in 11 yrs. And, make no mistake, this team is plenty dangerous,
as about all 1-loss teams are. And that lone setback came when their stellar QB
Ward (2,590 PYs, 68%, 16/5, 1,041 RYs, 5.8 ypr, 19 TDs) participated in only 4
plays. As noted, he is nearly unstoppable, along the lines of MissSt's Prescott.
The addition HC Herman (formerly OhioSt's offensive coordinator) has paid quick
dividends, as the Coogs have come from 56th & 55th in total & scoring "O", to this
year's 19th & 12th. Also check ranking 2nd in the land in TO edge. Mild dog call.

ANALYSIS
Game #2 in national collegiate playoff system. When is the last time that Saban's
Crimson Tide of Alabama hasn't figured somewhere in the mix for all the marbles?
Actually the 5th time in the last 7 years. Check 8 straight seasons with records
of 12-2,14-0, 10-3,12-1, 13-1, 11-2, 12-2, & 12-1 (so far). However, also note a
mediocre 4-3 (SU, ATS) bowl mark to wind up this current run. That all adds up
to cumulative 96-12 log, but 92-9 before their holiday games. So bowl flops of
sorts? Well, possibly, but remember that 2 of their 3 of bowl disappointments
followed killer season-ending losses. Not so the case here. This year, they've
used the same script that has reaped yearly fruition, namely a punishing overland
game, combined with an elite defense, a "D", by the way, which may be Saban's
best yet. And, of course, their main man on "O" is Heisman winner, RB Henry,
who is the personification punishment, checking in at 1,986 yds, 5.9 ypr, 23 TDs.
Remember, he had 46 & 44 carries (460 yds), in year-ending wins over Auburn
& Florida. Can he do it against the Spartans of Michigan State, who have also
been in possession of 5 straight rock-ribbed defenses, ranking 6th, 4th, 2nd, &
8th in total "D", as well as 9th, 8th, 2nd, 1st vs the run ('11, '12, '13, '14), allowing
70 RYpg in their last 4 bowls (Georgia, Tcu, Stanford, Baylor: 4-0 SU, ATS). This
year was different, however, ranking low on "D", with an 0-6 ATS start, while
allowing 21 ppg. But wins over Michigan & OhioSt, in which they never led either,
until the clock had run out, turned the season around, with that majestic 5 FD, 86
RY, 46 PY defensive effort vs the Bucks. QB Cook is a brilliant 24/5. 'Bama took
'em 49-7 in '10 Capital One, but double-digit spread here seems a bit excessive.

ANALYSIS
First of 2 games to decide the national title, & it's doubtful that we will find a more
entertaining contest than this one, as it has all the ingredients. For the top-ranked
Tigers of Clemson, they've won 16 straight games, & 22 of their last 23, with one
of their victims being last year's Oklahoma Sooner squad, which was thoroughly
throttled, losing 40-6, in the '14 Russell Athletic, with a 5-0 TO deficit, as their QB
Knight, who entered the game with a 14/9 TD/INT ratio, tossed 3 picks & no TDs.
By they way it was 40-0 after 3. This year, with 7 offensive starters returning for
Clemson, including QB Watson (missed LY's bowl game: knee injury), the Tigers
were a consensus pre-season #12 in our "Polls" column, & quickly proved the
experts correct, with their continually impressive showings. As can be seen from
the above stats, they do it both overhead, behind Watson (#11 in pass efficiency,
3,512 yds, 69.5%, 30/11), & overland (Gallman: 1,332 yds, 5.5 ypr, 10 TDs, &
Watson: 887 yds, 5.4 ypr, 11 TDs), while on the defensive side of the ball, they
rank 23rd, 5th, 17th, & 7th in run, pass, scoring, & total. The whole package. For
the Sooners, high hopes abounded, as they got off to a 4-0 start, averaging 42
ppg, but were dashed in a dispirited 24-17 loss to eventual 5-7 Texas, including a
313-67 RY deficit. However, that's when they took stock & streamed to their
current 7-0 SU run (6-1 ATS), by an average score of 52-19. They are led by QB
Mayfield (#2 in pass efficiency, 3,389 yds, 68.6%, 35/5), RB Perine (1,291 yds,
6.1 ypr, 15 TDs), & WR Shepard (1,201 yds, 15.2 ypc, 11 TDs). Not quite like LY,
when Okie QBing was shaky. Sooners electrifying, & the Tigers just continue to
win. Clemson couldn't stop NoCaro's Williams, so vote for Mayfield & the Okies.

ANALYSIS
Sure, they've met before, once to be exact, & right, it was a bowl encounter, the
'96 Citrus, to be exact, when the Volunteers of Tennessee, in the midst of 10-year
run, which saw 7 seasons with at least 10 wins, exacted a 48-28 triumph over the
9-3 Wildcats of Northwestern. But since '04, the Vols have posted just 5 winning
campaigns, including a pair of 7-6 yrs. That is, until this season, when they took
full advantage of no less than 18 starters (10 offensively), altho it hardly seemed
the case, as they opened at 3-4, with excruciating losses to Alabama, Oklahoma,
Florida, & Arkansas (combined 40-10), after leading or tied in the 4th quarter in
each. However, note turning a 21-pt deficit to Georgia, into a 38-31 win, along
with a 5-game SU run to wind it all up, including that 53-pt outburst vs a Vandy
team which had allowed just 21 ppg in its first 11 games. QB Dobbs is their key,
altho he finished 68th in pass efficiency (2,125 yds, 60%, 15/5). However, he led
the SEC in QB RYs (623 pg, 9 TDs). First bowl for 'Cats since '12's 34-20 win
over MississippiSt in '12 Gator (we called it 31-20, with a "1" Rating - nice). They
currently rank an unnoticed 12th in the Polls, with their 10-2 record, thanks mainly
to a bending, non-breaking defense, which has held 7 teams to 14 pts or less,
including outright upsets of Stanford, Duke, Nebraska, PennSt, Wisconsin. And
throw in a 27-0 win over bowl-bound Minnesota. So, owning nation's 15th, 7th, &
11th, run, scoring, & total defenses, but 116th offense. QB Thorson a lowly 1,465
PYs, 51.6%, 7/7, but RB Jackson ranks 20th with 112 ypg (4 TDs). So a highly
competitve 10-2 squad on the receiving end of a TD spot. Juicy, but note NW's
only losses coming by scores of 38-0 & 40-10. That may be the swaying factor.

ANALYSIS
When Urban Meyer was head man with the Gators of Florida from '05 thru '10, he
guided them to a bowl record of 5-1, both SU & ATS, which included a pair of
national championships. The only loss? It came in the '07 Capital One, when the
Wolverines of Michigan (+10) overcame a 4-0 turnover deficit, for the 41-35
upset. So, they've met before (twice). The main sidebar, as has been the case all
season, as far as the Wolverines are concerned, is the arrival of Jim Harbaugh as
HC, he of recent NFL & SuperBowl fame. He wore his welcome out quickly in the
"Big Time", but seems the perfect fit for the college scene, especially with his
Alma Mater, along with a squad that retained 16 starters, albeit from a team which
was on a definite downward slide, with 11-2, 8-5, 7-6, & 5-7 records under Hoke.
And what a start his minions made, opening at 5-1, with a 160-14 pt edge when
they entertained MichSt, holding a 23-21 lead in the closing seconds only to botch
a punt, which was returned for a TD after the clock ran out. But then 4 straight
wins, before wipeout 42-13 finale loss OhioSt (369-57 RY deficit). Improved, but
vulnerable. Offense revolves around QB Rudock (2,739 yds, 64%, 17/9), as UM
ranks 97th in rushing. But try nation's 4th-ranked "D". Thus, the Gators, & their
109th ranked "O" should definitely feel the heat. Florida has also welcomed new
head coaching (McElwain from ColoSt), with a 10-3 log the result, altho it has
been the takeaway that has been the major contributor (4 in upset of OleMiss, 5 in
rout of Georgia). In their SEC title match with Alabama (29-15 loss), the Gators
were on the short end of 25-7, 233-15 RY, 437-180 RY margins (TDs on 85-yd
punt return & 46-yd pass). At least Michigan can move it. We lay the small spot.

ANALYSIS
This marks the first meeting ever for these 2 powers, and that in itself is a shame,
as they seem cut from the same cloth, namely run first, throw second. The bowl
scene has become an annual thing for the Cardinal of Stanford, who are playing in
their 7th straight such contest, altho is sure seems as if they've been a power for
much longer. For those with short memories, note from '97 thru '08 Stanford had
made it to just 2 bowls, with 10-of-12 losing campaigns. Enter Jim Harbaugh in
'07 on the heels of '06's 1-11 log, & completely turning it all around: 12-1 in '10,
before turning the reins over to Shaw in '11, who has continued the excellence,
with a combined 53-14 record since. And check a 5-1 ATS bowl run in Harbaugh/
Shaw era. This year, they are led by Heisman runnerup RB/WR McCaffrey, who
does it all: 3,496 all-purpose yds, thereby breaking Barry Sanders' single-season
record. That includes 1,847 RYs. And he is complemented by brilliant QB Hogan:
2,644 PYs, 68.6%, 24/7, who was 17-of-21 & 4/0 in narrow escape vs NoDame.
Stanford's only loss since opening day bomb vs Northwestern, came in 38-36
setback vs Oregon, due mainly to pair of 4th quarter fumbled snaps. The Hawkeyes
of Iowa came within 0:27 seconds of a perfect season, losing to MichSt in the Big
Ten title game. Not a single pre-season vote, but only bowl-bound Pitt, Indiana, &
Minny exceeded 20 pts vs this #10 run, #15 scoring, & #20 total "D". Canzeri is
their go-to RB: 976 yds, 5.5 ypr, 12 TDs, but he is an on-again, off-again player,
who has been slowed by nagging injuries (?? here). And Beathard (2,570 yds,
61.4%, 15.4) is 2nd-team All-Big Ten QB. Iowa's Ferentz is 5-2 ATS in his last 7
bowls, thus there is no questioning his bonafides. Spot seems a bit heavy. Iowa!

ANALYSIS
What a match! It hardly seemed the case at the year's onset, as the Buckeyes of
Ohio State were a near-unanimous choice to repeat as national champions, with
14 starters returning from LY's squad, which shocked the land with 59-0, 42-35,
& 42-20 wins in the Big10 title game (Wisconsin), the SugarBowl (Alabama), &
the title game (Oregon), covering those 3 by a combined 106 pts! They not
only returned all 3 stellar QBs (Barrett, Miller, Jones), but the brilliant running of
Ezekiel Elliott, who compiled 220, 230, 246 RYs (11.0, 11.5, 6.8 ypr) in those
post-season affairs. Also 6 down linemen. However, from the opening whistle, it
was apparent that this year's Buckeye edition was a step down from '14, with but
1 cover (4 pts) before Oct 17. And despite a 10-0 record, were replaced at #1 by
Clemson, which proved correct when OSt was held to 5 FDs & 132 yds in 17-14
loss to MichSt, as Elliott had only 5 carries. But that was followed with the most
lopsided win (42-13) in storied OSt/Michigan rivalry: 369-57 RY edge (353 from
Elliott & Barrett. At season's end Elliott: 1,672 RYs, 19 TDs, 6.4 ypr. The Irish of
Notre Dame have been a pleasant surprise, & as HC Kelly is wont to state, are
just 2 plays from unbeaten, namely controversial missed 2-pt try in 24-22 loss to
Clemson, & 45-yd Stanford FG at the gun, after Irish had taken 36-35 lead with
0:30 left. Things looked bleak after losing starters, QB Zaire & RB Folston, in first
2 weeks, but Kizer has taken over nicely: 2,600 PYs, 63.4%, 19/9. But leading
rusher Prosise (6.6 ypr) is iffy for this one (ankle). But check a 299-RY effort,
without him, vs that Stanford "D". Defensively, Bucks rank 2nd in scoring & 10th,
overall. Irish are 26th & 24th. Meyer (9-2 SU & ATS in bowls) is the difference.

ANALYSIS
New Orleans, you'd better get prepared, as the Cowboys of Oklahoma State once
again return to the Sugar Bowl. What, you don't remember their 33-13 win over
St Marys in 1945? Obviously, their opponents here, the Rebels of Mississippi,
are much more acquainted with the Crescent City surroundings, as the SEC has
annually been the Sugar Bowl host, altho OleMiss hasn't appeared in this classic
since Archie Manning led them here in 1970, which is actually tougher to digest
than the aforementioned '45 Cowboy slot. These combatants have met just twice,
previously, the '03 & '09 Cotton Bowls, with the Rebs winning (& covering) both,
by scores of 31-28 & 21-7. A year ago, OleMiss climbed to the 3rd spot in the
land thru 7 games, only to suffer back-to-back 3 & 4 pt losses to Lsu & Auburn, &
an eventual 9-4 record, & final ranking of #17, with a 42-3 loss to Tcu in the Peach
Bowl. No Wallace at QB, but 16 starters, including brilliant WR Treadwell, who
missed Rebs' final 4 games LY. But QB Kelly is a winner, earning his stripes in a
shocking 43-37 upset of Alabama (5-0 TO edge), with 340 PYs & 3/0 (67, 73, 24
yds). He ended the season at 3,740 yds, 65.2%, 27/12; & Treadwell: 1,082 yds
receiving (8 TDs). OkieSt has been among the most explosive teams in the land,
since the arrival of Gundy in '05. His bowl record with the Cowboys is 6-3 SU, &
5-4 ATS, altho the latter should read 6-3, as we'll never forget him kicking a FG
from the Stanford 1, in the '11 Fiesta, winning 41-38, as a 4-pt chalk. Thank You.
They opened 10-0 TY, ranking 4th in the nation, before 45-35 & 58-23 losses to
Baylor & Oklahoma (-37 pts ATS). No rushing, & a 2-QB system that may be
without Rudolph, its main cog: 3,591 PYs, 62.6%, 21/9. No way to enter a bowl.

ANALYSIS
Seems a heartless thing to say, but this one has all the ingredients of a stinker, as
it is peppered with negatives galore. These 2 last met in the '82 Sugar Bowl, with
the National Championship at stake (27-24 Lion win: Curt Warner: 117 RYs, 2
TDs; Herschel Walker: 103 RYs, 1 TD). This one hardly carries such prestigious
angle, as both outfits have come up far short of expectations. For the Nittany
Lions of Penn State, this marks their 2nd bowl game since the departure of Joe
Paterno, prevailing over Boston College, 31-30 (OT) in last year's Pinstripe, thanks
to an extra session missed Eagle PAT. So 31 pts, 25 FDs, & 452 yds for a team
which entered with a PG average of 20 pts, 19 FDs, 326 yds. And they did it vs
a squad whose "D" allowed 21 pts, 17 FDs, & 313 ypg. Eight returning starters
from LY's "O", so some improvement, but still a work in progress, as they rank
104th, 82nd, 98th, 106th in run, pass, scoring, total "O". Vet QB Hackenberger
is at just 53.3%, but a solid 16/5. Once more they field a stellar "D": 10th in total.
But the bottom line: only 1 win over a winning team all year (SanDiegoSt). The
Bulldogs of Georgia seem perennial national contenders, & appeared on that
track, through 4 games, with routs over Monroe, Vanderbilt, So Caro, Southern U
(not exactly an intimidating quartet), only to be brought to earth with a resounding
38-10 loss to Alabama (who else?) as a 2-pt chalk. Their bread-&-butter man
was RB Chubb, but he was lost for the year on Oct 10th. QB Lambert a decent
64.4% & 11/2, while RB Michel has picked up the overland load with 1,076 yds.
No Chubb, & 'Dawgs have released long-time HC Richt. But a "D" that ranks 9th
& 8th in scoring & total. The site favors Georgia, but we cannot get too involved.

ANALYSIS
Not quite what these 2 had in mind when the season began, as both were firmly
entrenched as Top 5 outfits, in just about all pre-season polls, with the Horned
Frogs of TCU the overwhelming consensus choice as the nation's 2nd best team,
behind mighty OhioSt. Returning 16 starters from last year's 3rd-ranked squad,
including TEN from an offense that was #5 in the land, they had a legitimate shot
at a national championship run. In '14, they were "jobbed" out of a spot in national
playoff quartet (12-1 SU, with only miss a 61-58 loss at Baylor), taking out their
frustrations with resounding 42-3 rout of OleMiss in the PeachBowl, with nearly a
300-yd edge, holding the Rebs' 426 ypg "O" to 129. So a carryover effect with a
more than dedicated team, right? Well yes-&-no, as LY's 10-2 ATS squad, failed
to cover a game in '15, before an Oct 3rd 50-7 thrashing of Texas, with a balanced
604 yds (31 FDs). QB Boykin is among the best, ranking 2nd in the land in total
offense (380.6 ypr), with 3,575 PYs (64.9%, 31/10), along with 612 RYs (9 TDs).
Loss of brilliant WR Doctson (wrist) is huge, as he leads the land in receiving yds
(1,327, 14 TDs), & note Frogs not reaching 30 yds in any of their final 4 games.
The Ducks of Oregon were exposed early, with astounding 62-20 loss hosting
Utah, & a 45-38 OT home loss to WashSt just 2 wks later, standing at 3-3, when
they regrouped with 6-0 finish (5-1 ATS). QB Adams is no Mariotta, but altho
playing for much of the season with a broken finger, he sits at 2,446 yds, 64.6%,
& 25/6. And RB Freeman ranks 4th in the nation. Both are dedicated, but more
so the streaking & healthy Ducks, who seek to exorcise demons from LY's 42-20
title game loss to OhioSt. Frogs own the better "D" (#66 to #116). That sways us.

ANALYSIS
For the 2nd time in 5 years, the Wildcats of Kansas State meet the Razorbacks of
Arkansas in a bowl game ('11 Cotton: 29-16 Arky (-8) win: 41-yr punt return TD &
45-yd scoring pass in 10:27 span of 2nd). HC Bill Snyder is a bowl veteran, as he
has landed his squads in 17 holiday events over his last 20 years as leader of the
'Cats, missing only in '04, '05', & 09. His retirement, following the '05 season,
was short-lived, returning in '09, & resurrecting the 'Cats' obvious downward
trend (4 losing seasons in 5 years). Thus, a bowl reward for the 6th straight year.
This season appeared lost, when KSt (3-6) reeled off 6 straight losses, & trailed
IowaSt, 35-28, with just 1:31 remaining, before forcing 2 fumbles, tying it with
0:42 left, & winning it in final 0:03. Wins over Kansas & WVa (97-yd KO return
TD in final 2:07) made them an improbable "bowl eligible" team, & here they are.
Not Snyder's most dominant edition, outplaying only 1-of-9 conference foes (0-12
Kansas). QB Hubener is just 9/9 & 47.8%, & cannot ignore KSt's #109 & #101
"O" & "D" rankings. Also, a 226-139 pt deficit in its L6 games, & 2-10 ATS bowl
record. It's another matter for the Hogs, who've had stat edges in 9-of-12 games,
& that includes bowl-bound Toledo, TexA&M, Tenn, Aub, OleMiss, & Lsu. QB
Allen (3,125 yds, 65.1%, 29/7) leads the SEC in TD passes, yds per attempt
(9.08), & total QB rating (87.2). RB Collins ranks 16th in the land with 1,392 yds,
17 TDs. Thus, a balanced attack that was held in check just once. Guess who?
Right, Alabama. And the Wildcats are no Crimson Tide. Obviously, we always
respect Snyder in the dog role, but allowing 31+ pts 7 times in an 8-game stretch
this year hardly a hopeful sign. And UA (-7) took Texas, 31-7, in LY's Texas Bowl.

Just the 2nd meeting between these 2 bowl veterans, a 42-7 romp by the Sun
Devils of Arizona State over the Mountaineers of West Virginia in 1979. Fifth
straight bowl year for the Devils, following absentee status previous 3 seasons,
directly on heels of a 4-season bowl run. Got it? Anyway, unquestioned bowl
experience, even if they stand that 3-4 SU, & 1-6 ATS since '05. A quick peek of
the above stats shows that the Suns are the epitome of the wild Pac12, in which
barburners are the norm. Check out topping 33 pts on 8 occasions, while ceding
34+ pts in 7 outings. So a final 23rd ranking in total offense, but coming in at
#104, defensively. QB Bercovici has been highly productive since insertion into
LY's lineup following a variety of Kelly injuries, & has carried over to this season,
where he has 3,442 yds, 60.4%, 26/7, with his favorite target WR Lucien, who
caught 21 passes for 453 yds & 5 TDs in 'Devils' final 3 games. The Mounties
make it 13 bowls in 14 seasons, altho failing to top the 7-win plateau since '11,
when they posted the last of 4 consecutive double-digit win campaigns. A year
ago, they dropped 4 of their last 5 games (1 cover), including their 45-37 Liberty
Bowl loss to TexasA&M. This season was marked by a suicidal Oct schedule
that produced 44-24, 33-26 (OT), 62-38, & 40-10 losses to Okla, OklaSt, Baylor,
& Tcu (murderers' row), which moved their record to 3-4, before a 4-1 windup,
which, but for a 97-yd KO return in final 2:07 at KansSt, could have been 5-0. So
a resume similar to ArizSt's. QB Howard was 3/0 & 346 PYs in LY's bowl loss.
RB Small carries the load (1,447 RYs, 6.4 ypr, 9 TDs). Obviously, this is played
in 'Devils' back yard, but it comes down to which team has the ball last. To wire.
