Summary
Symptom
You want to apply an IPC patch for solving or preventing IPC problems.
Or you were asked by SAP support to apply the latest IPC patch to solve or
prevent a problem.
It is always advised to keep your IPC patch up to date. Especially before
reporting an IPC problem to SAP support. Since, applying the latest IPC patch
is most likely to solve your IPC problem if it was caused by a coding error.
Other terms
IPC, Software Center, service market place, SMP, IPC webapps,
web applications, Support Package, IPCPatch.jar, ear, war, sca, sda
Reason and Prerequisites
As of IPC release 3.0 patches for IPC support packages can be downloaded
from SAP Service Market Place "SMP". These IPC patches serve for solving or
preventing problems which were detected and fixed only after shipment of an
IPC support package.
As of IPC 4.0 SP02 patches for IPC support packages include corrections
made for Java classes and for non-java SAP files such as property files, xml
files and so on. With the exception of third party files, such as JCo binaries
which are not patched using the IPCPatch.SAR.
As of IPC 4.0 SP01 CRM IPC Web Applications support packages "patches"
are delivered separately from the IPC server.
Solution
Important Remarks:
1. The corrections included in an IPC patch on the Service market place
are always listed in its corresponding info file.
2. Since these patches are updated only once a week (on Friday), an
OSS note might temporarily refer to an IPC patch BEFORE it actually
is available on the Service Market Place. As a rule, if a note for an IPC
problem is released before Wednesday noon (Walldorf time) the
corresponding bug fix will make part of next Friday's patch.
3. Since not every IPC problem can be solved by an IPC patch nonpatchable IPC problems (e.g. problems in CRM IPC 3.0 Web
Applications) are listed along with their corresponding OSS notes
For IPC release 3.0 in note 459415
For IPC release 4.0 in note 624233.

CAUTION:
1. The support packages of CRM 3.0 and CRM 4.0 server and the
support packages of IPC must be identical.
2. Patches work only with the support package they have been
created for. They are not compatible with other support packages.
3. A patch with a high patch level includes all patches with lower
patch levels (its predecessors). Therefore, only the most recent
patch is offered in the Software Center.
How to patch IPC 3.0:
-----------------------According to your IPC 3.0 support package, apply the respective patch
IPC30<support package>P_<patch level>-10002006.SAR
from the Software Center as described in the example below. The 'patch
level' which makes part of the file name is nothing but a counter for
distinguishing successive patch versions. A patch includes all its
predecessors. As a consequence, it replaces any patch with a lower patch
level.
EXAMPLE: Suppose you run an IPC 3.0 Support Package 6 on NT or
Win2000. Then proceed as follows:
a) Enter the Software Center via http://service.sap.com/swdc
b) On the Left Hand side tree, navigate as follows:
=>Download => Support packages & patches
=> Entry by Application Group
c) On the Right Hand side, navigate as follows:
=> SAP Application components => SAP CRM => SAP CRM 3.0
=> Entry by Component => CRM IPC => CRM IPC 3.0
=> #OS independent
Please notice that the folder has been changed from NT/I386 to
OS independent!
d) If you need a patch including a certain bug fix verify whether its
info file contains the corresponding OSS note.
e) Download file IPC30SP06P_<patch level>-10002006.SAR
"Patch for Internet Pricing Configurator", where 'patch level'
indicates the version of the currently available patch.
f) Recall that SAR files have to be unpacked using SAPCAR.exe
which can be downloaded from the Service market place via
Enter the Software Center via http://service.sap.com/swdc
On the Left Hand side tree, navigate as follows:
=>Download => Support packages & patches
=> Entry by Application Group
On the Right Hand side, navigate as follows:
=> Support Packages and Patches
=> SAP Technology Components => SAPCAR
=> SAPCAR <6.20 or 6.40> => <your platform>
g) In the command line, enter 'sapcar -xvf IPC30SP06P_<patch
level>-10002006.SAR'. This returns an archive IPCPatch.jar.
h) Stop all IPC services (if you are in an MSA environment then all
you need to do is close all the Mobile applications)
i) Determine the installation directory of the IPC e.g. C:\Program
Files\SAP.
j) Copy the IPCPatch.jar extracted above to <IPC installation
directory>\lib, thereby replacing the old IPCPatch.jar.
k) Start the IPC services again. (if you are in an MSA environment
then all you need to do is simply open a Mobile application).
How to patch CRM IPC Web Applications 3.0
--------------------------------------------The patch procedure of IPC web apps is described in the IPC 3.0
installation guide available at: http://service.sap.com/crm-inst.
Navigate to SAP CRM 3.0 > eSelling > Installation
There: Internet Pricing and Configurator Installation
Choose the installation guide version that matches your IPC version.
Chapter: IPC Web Applications > Upgrade.

>> Patching IPC 4.0 SP01
The patching process of support package 1 of IPC 4.0 did not change from
the patching process of IPC 3.0. Therefore, you can use the same procedure
described above "How to patch IPC 3.0" to patch IPC 4.0 SP01.
However, as of IPC 4.0 SP02 the patching process introduced more
enhancements. Thus, please follow the described procedure below to patch
IPC 4.0 support packages higher than SP1.
How are IPC Patches different as of IPC 4.0 SP02?
As of IPC 4.0 SP02, the IPC patches now contain more than only the delta
java classes inside the archive file "IPCPatch.jar". But also they contain nonjava SAP IPC delta files.
The new IPC Patches are SAR archive files that will result in 3 sub-folders
once unpacked using the SAPCAR.EXE tool.
IPC40SP<support package>P_<patch_level>-10002084.SAR
>>common
/** the common sub-structure will contain IPC
>>lib
** delta files common to all IPC scenarios &
>>...
** Platforms, in the exact substructure they will be
** in under an installed IPC instance.
>>MSA
/** the MSA sub-structure will contain IPC
>>bin
** delta files specific to the IPC under Mobile Sales
>>lib
** scenario, in the exact substructure they will be
>>...
** in under an installed IPC instance.
>>standard
/** the standard sub-structure will contain IPC
>>bin
** delta files specific to IPC under CRM online
>>lib
** scenario, in the exact substructure they will be
>>...
**/ in under an installed IPC instance.

In IPC 4.0 SP03 and higer the installation tool SAPInst has to be used to
install IPC patches. SAPInst is able to identify the target system scenario and
platform, and accordingly patch the common and the scenario specific files.
However, this feature of SAPInst is not yet available for IPC 4.0 SP02.
Therefore, the following procedure is described to patch IPC 4.0 SP02.
For SP03 and higer see next section.

>> Patching IPC 4.0 SP02

=> SAP Application components => SAP CRM => SAP CRM 4.0
=> Entry by Component => CRM IPC => CRM IPC 4.0
=> #OS independent
d) Download file IPC40SP02P_<patch level>-10002084.SAR
"Patch for Internet Pricing Configurator 4.0 SP2", where 'patch
level' indicates the version of the currently available patch, into a
directory <TempDir>.
e) Recall that SAR files have to be unpacked using SAPCAR.exe
which can be downloaded from the Service market place via
http://service.sap.com/swdc
Enter the Software Center via http://service.sap.com/swdc

(<TempDir>\common\), (<TempDir>\MSA\) and
(<TempDir>\standard\)
h) A file named IPCPatch.jar is extracted into
<TempDir>\common\lib\.
i) Before replacing any file you need to stop all IPC services (if you
are in an MSA environment then all you need to do is close all the
Mobile appliactions)
j) Determine the installation directory of the IPC e.g. C:\Program
Files\SAP.
k) Copy the IPCPatch.jar extracted above into <IPC_INSTDIR>\lib,
thereby replacing the old IPCPatch.jar.

l) Backup your old files before replacing them with the new files.
m) Copy the new files under the common substructure into their
corresponding locations in your IPC installation.
n) Copy the files under your scenario specific substructure into
their corresponding locations in your IPC installation.
CAUTION:
When replacing a file, make sure that the file is copied into the
correct location. i.e.the path to the file inside the extracted structure and under
the scenario named folder
(<TempDir>\common\), (<TempDir>\MSA\) or
(<TempDir>\standard\) matches the path to the file in the installed IPC and
under the IPC folder.
e.g. <TempDir>\common\lib\IPCPatch.jar into
<IPC_INSTDIR>\lib\IPCPatch.jar
o) Start the IPC services again. (if you are in an MSA environment
then all you need to do is simply open a Mobile application).
Only for MSA environment
p) Copy the <TempDir>\MSA\lib\IPCBeans.jar into
<IPC_INSTDIR>\lib
q) Copy the <TempDir>\MSA\lib\IPCExt.jar into <IPC_INSTDIR>\lib
r) Copy all the extracted type library files (e.g. SPCItemBean.tlb)
from <TempDir>\MSA\bin\*.tlb into <IPC_INSTDIR>\bin\.

CAUTION
1. DO NOT replace any of the other files that do not belong to your IPC
scenario or platform.
2. Before replacing a file, it is advised to backup the old file.
3. Make sure that you copy the files into the correct location.

>> Patching IPC 4.0 SP03 and higher

Beginning with SP03 SAPinst has to be used to patch an existing IPC
installation. Do not patch the IPC manually as done in IPC 3.0 or IPC 4.0
