PeopleSoft FSCM & HCM 9.1 Upgrade for a fortune 500 health insurance provider
Client Overview
Our client is a global independent health insurance provider with a turnover in excess of GBP 7 billion employing nearly 52,000 people across the world. Its
operations cover the UK, Australia, Spain, New Zealand, USA, Hong Kong, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, India, China, and Latin America.

Business Needs
To maintain its industry leadership position, the client decided to upgrade its existing version
of PeopleSoft FSCM and HCM applications. The opportunity to retire unwieldy customizations,
expand the application footprint, and prevent decay into fragmented systems, combined with
Oracles discontinuation of support for older PeopleSoft versions, were key drivers in the clients
decision to upgrade to PeopleSoft v9.1.

Business Benefits

Scope
Our task, at Hexaware, was to upgrade the current applications from PeopleSoft FSCM v8.8 and
PeopleSoft HCM v8.9 to their respective 9.1 versions. We needed to appraise the out-of-the-box
functionality available in v9.1 and implement these based on business benefits to the client. It also
included the deployment of Enterprise Portal v9.1 for a more responsive, user-friendly, and easier
to manage interface.

Challenges

An extremely aggressive target go-live date.

Development of a customized bolt-on module for vendor management to mirror the clients
vendor management workflows.
A lack of documentation making it difficult to understand the existing system.
Re-engineering customizations on MSS to fit into functionality in the Approval Workflow Engine
(AWE) in PeopleSoft v9.1.
Coordinating with third-party DBA administrators who operated remotely.
Delayed inputs on keep-drop decisions going well into the Hexaware Integration Testing (HIT)
phase.

Solution
Hexaware initiated the project with a focus on expanding the upgraded applications footprint
by eliminating fragmented customizations from the past. Beginning with a comprehensive
requirements gathering process, we then went on to recommend an upgrade approach, end state
architecture design, keep drop decisions matrix, robust test strategy, and an implementation plan.

Higher efficiency through simplified and

unified business processes.
A custom bolt-on vendor management
system that mapped to existing
workflows and interfaced with the
PeopleSoft-delivered vendor manage
ment module.
Retired a high proportion of customiza
tions by leveraging product-based best
practice processes and functionality in
PeopleSoft v9.1.
Reduced the total cost of ownership
(TCO) for PeopleSoft applications by
simplifying support with the upgrade.
Improved access to Peoplesoft
applications through a user-friendly
portal interface by using Enterprise
Portal v9.1.
Facilitated cross-application use by
integrating PeopleSoft applications.
Enabled multi-language support in
English and Spanish.
Made a global rollout possible as a
result of migration to Unicode.
Consistent online training material for
all 9.1 modules.

Using our proprietary SPEED methodology, Hexaware implemented the upgrades on

PeopleSoft FSCM v8.8 and PeopleSoft HCM v8.9 bringing both applications to v9.1 using
Oracle-recommended tools.
By keeping key members of the clients IT involved throughout the upgrade process, Hexaware
enabled a smooth transition to PeopleSoft v9.1. A robust testing process ensured that systems
were fully ready on the go-live date with minimum downtime while a comprehensive training
program helped users get accustomed to the new application and interface.
