Yammer Usage Policy, Students (ver 1.

1_Sept2015)

What is Yammer?
Yammer is a social networking service designed for work environments.
Its interface works very similar to sites like Facebook, where individuals
setup a profile and can chat and share files with members of selected
groups.
Purpose of Yammer:
We hope that Yammer will improve communications between teachers
and their students. Teachers will be able to post assignments, maintain
forums, answer questions, and provide resources in a seamless
manner for their classes. Students may also be able to communicate
with classmates on chosen topics related to their studies.
What Yammer is NOT:
Yammer is not a social networking site to be used outside of an
academic context. Usage of Yammer to promote dialogues outside of a
teacher directed context are strictly prohibited. As well, inappropriate
usage of Yammer will be strictly defined, monitored, and disciplined.
For this reason, students are NOT allowed to create their own groups.
Students may only join groups they have been invited to. Repeated
attempts to form separate student groups will result in administrative
procedures, as defined below.
Definitions of Inappropriate Usage:
The follow activities are strictly forbidden on the school Yammer
network:
1) Inappropriate Threads/Messaging: this includes conversations not
in keeping with an academic context, not encouraged by subject
teachers and administrators, and generally more fit for social
networking sites outside of the school-wide community. This also
includes private messages of a personal nature.
2) Inappropriate Language: this includes any language that is
considered offensive to the accepted norms of the school
community, including use of profanity, obscene references,
sexual innuendo, stereotyping, forms of hate speech, and
symbols for foul language.
3) Inappropriate Content: this includes the embedding of links to
Internet sites that are not in keeping with the academic purpose
of the community. As well, any sites that contain inappropriate

material, including forms of obscenity as understood by the

leaders of the school community.
4) Harassment: this includes any form of taunting, insulting, or
generally upsetting any member of the Yammer community.
5) Cyber Bullying: this includes forms of intimidation that cause a
student to feel unsafe and threatened on the Yammer site and
beyond.
Procedures:
Students who are found to have used the Yammer service
inappropriately will lose their Yammer privileges immediately and have
their account suspended. Such actions will also result with a meeting
with parents, per the school-wide behavioral policy. Students may
apply to have their account reinstated, after consultations with the
governing body of the school.
