I never go by the banner of a film

Priyanka Chopra is clearly going through one of the most exciting phases in her life- professionally and personally. On
the professional side, besides a string of successes, she has the maximum number of awards this year and has some
promising films lined up for release. On the personal front, her link-up with Shahid Kapur, her Kaminey co-star, has been
the subject of considerable curiosity. We caught up with the talented actress at the web-site launch of her first Yashraj
film, ‘Pyaar Impossible’.

What got you attracted to a film like ‘Pyaar Impossible’. Was it the banner of Yas-
hraj Films?
I have never done films in the past because of their banners, which is also one of the reasons, why
my work so far is with a good number of new producers, directors and actors. For me, both Drona
and Dostana were on the same level, as the other films I have done. In the case of Pyar Impossible, I
was excited about the script of the film. I could relate to the character very well. In addition, I think
many people will be able to connect to the film, since all of us have our own share of insecurities
in life.

Could you elaborate on the story of the film?

The film tells the story of a geek called Abhay (played by Uday) and a beautiful girl whom he adores
but is unable to confess his feelings for her because he does not think he is good enough for her.

Have you ever come across a geek in life yourself?

I haven’t come across one, but I was a geek myself in school. I was studying that time in Grade 8 in
a U.S school. I was a very reserved child and could not talk to anyone. I also had a crush on another
student but every time I would bump into him, I would be speechless. I would also walk quietly
behind the other students in the class, in a bid to hide myself. I think all of us have gone through
such phases in life, when we are not confident enough to face people.

How has the experience been working with Uday?

Uday knows the script of the film inside out because he has written it himself. It has been a great
experience working with him and I would love to work with him again, if the opportunity arises.
The film has also turned out very well and it will be something to watch out for.

What is your concept of love and what are the factors that matter?
I would like to look at the person beneath the façade. Good looks should be secondary. I have
known many people who have never been happy about relationships, despite having dated the best-
looking men and women. It is important for a person to know and understand the other person and
his or her feelings.

There is a lot of anticipation about your forthcoming release, Kaminey.

I am looking forward to it too. The film has shaped up very well. Director Vishal Bharadwaj is
full of ideas and working with him has been an altogether great experience. Also, the character of
Sweety that I am playing in the film is a very realistic and believable character of a college-going
girl in her early 20s. Vishal has defined the character so well that it invariably makes an impression.
The simplistic look of the character has also been designed accordingly. It is not easy to get a film
like Kaminey everyday.

Both Fashion and Dostana, had you playing glamorous roles. Were you apprehen-
sive about taking up Kaminey?
Not in the least. In fact, I deliberately chose the role of Kaminey to be able to experiment with a new
character and look. I am looking at essaying different characters in all the films that I am doing,
be it Kaminey, Whats Your Raashee or for that matter, Pyaar Impossible. I am trying to explore
various genres of acting.
