Statoil Technology Invest

What we do?

Whats New?

Statoil aims to be a cost and carbon efficient oil

and gas producer and has a significant renewable
business. Statoil Technology Invest (STI) helps
Statoil succeed through supporting SMEs with
technologies within oil and energy. Building on
a proven venture track record we provide expert
technical and financial guidance and project
based or venture capital funding. STI is looking
for technologies both within upstream oil and gas
and new energy. Focus areas in oil and gas are
exploration, reservoir, drilling and well, production
and facilities. In new energy we are looking for
technology within renewable power generation,
energy storage, distributed generation, carbon
capture and transformation and increased energy
efficiency.

Statoil Technology Invest has invested in four new

companies, made three exits and entered into
five new LOOP contracts since the last Venture
showcase.

The STI team has experience from finance,

mergers & acquisitions, board management,
marketing & sales, technology development and
implementation, and oil and energy technologies.
STIs close connection to the larger technical
community within Statoil and the Statoil assets can
provide expert technology advice on development
and qualification, as well as piloting access and
support.
STI also manages Statoils engagements in
key Norwegian incubators (Ipark, Kongsberg
Innovasjon, Kjeller Innovasjon) and Proventure the
national seed fund for oil and gas technologies.

Investments: Fishbones, Hybond, TechInvent

and Coreteq
Exits: Marine Cybernetics, Lithicon and Resman
LOOP: Quantico Energy Solutions, Hybond,
Raptor, TechInvent and Intelligent Mud Solutions
Statoil Technology Invest has also committed NOK
100 million as the biggest private investor in the
new Norwegian oil and gas technology seed fund
managed by ProVenture

Whats the Value?

Statoils goal with STI is to accelerate
commercialization and implementation of
newtechnology. Introduction of new technology
plays an important role in improving Statoils
operations and in reaching our corporate ambitions
of increasing find rates, increasing recovery,
reducing emissions and reducing cost. Seventy
percent of companies in our portfolio are in the
process of implementing technology in Statoil, with
the rest on the way!

Oiltech Investment Network

What we do?

Whats the value?

The Oiltech Investment Network was established

in 2010 to drive innovation and encourage
the application of new technologies within the
upstream oil & gas sector. The network achieves
this by providing a platform to connect end
users to innovative technology providers and
entrepreneurs to energy focussed investors. Oiltech
is formed of 12 investor member companies
(BP Technology Ventures, Chevron Technology
Ventures, ConocoPhillips Technology Ventures,
Energy Ventures, GE Ventures, Investinor, Lime Rock
Partners, Repsol Energy Ventures, Saudi Aramco
Energy Ventures, Statoil Technology Invest, Total
Energy Ventures and Viking Venture). The network
is run on behalf of the members by OTM Consulting.
OTM, a division of Sagentia Group plc, offers
specialist technology consulting services to the oil
& gas sector, helping companies to maximize value
from their investments in R&D and technology.

Oiltech provides 2 valuable platforms to drive

innovation within the sector. Entrepreneurs Advisory
Workshops (EAW) aim to connect innovative
technology providers with access to funding
opportunities. These workshops are designed to
provide industry specific advice and expertise for
entrepreneurs seeking partner funding. They also
offer networking opportunities for entrepreneurs
to meet providers of grant, early seed and direct
industry funding as well as other advisors in areas
such as IP, finance and legal. Technology Showcases
allow the current Oiltech Members portfolio
(approximately 80 companies) to present their
technologies and solutions to technology advisors,
asset managers, and other interested parties within
Operator and Service Companies. These events help
to increase industry awareness of new technologies
as well as facilitate field trial opportunities and
technology uptake.

Whats new?
The network has continued to observe an
increased interest by operators and investment
firms in technologies with applications in the oil
and gas sector. In 2014 Oiltech welcomed three
new operator investor members, ConocoPhillips
Technology Ventures, Repsol Energy Ventures and
Total Energy Ventures to the group.
