BISHOP BARBARAS BULLETIN

January 7, 2016
APCI walk together with all Gods people, journeying into a new creation, and trusting
with faith and courage in the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We love as Jesus loves, living with
integrity and openness, and are committed stewards of Gods world.
Bishops Message:
A Family Gathered!
On Friday February 12, at 11 am the Central Interior family is invited to gather at St Pauls Cathedral for a memorial service to give
thanks to God for the life and ministry of Bishop Jim Cruickshank. Archbishop Fred Hiltz, Archbishop John Privett and others from
outside of the Central Interior will be joining us. This date was selected as it is the closest day to the anniversary date of his consecration as
Bishop of Cariboo on February 9, 1992 and that seemed convenient for the community. A reception will follow in the Cathedral Hall.
As we gather as the Cariboo family of Bishop Jim, I am inviting the clergy (colour white) and LMWS to robe. Pastoral Elders and the
Canons of Cariboo and the Central Interior are invited to join the procession. Visiting clergy and ecumenical partners are also invited to
robe. Please confirm your attendance with the APCI office by February 5, 2016 - apci@shaw.ca.
In honour of Bishop Jims legacy as Bishop of Cariboo and his ministry throughout the church, a Legacy Fund in memory of Bishop Jim
Cruickshank, has been set up in the APCI Investment Fund. Donations can be made to the APCI office at 360 Nicola St, Kamloops, BC
V2C clearly marked in Memory of Bishop Jim.
As families do at the time of the death of one of its beloved members, we will gather to story tell and to share those stories with one
another. We are inviting you to write your story of Bishop Jim. These stories will be published in a booklet and shared with Bishop Jims
family and the wider church family. We would like to publish some of these stories in the next LINK (deadline January 28). Please submit
your stories to apcibishop@shaw.ca by January 28 for inclusion in the LINK and the booklet for the service on February 12. We will
continue to collect stories until the end of March for inclusion in a final booklet. We welcome high resolution pictures along with your
stories or just send us a picture.
Some of the members of the Central Interior family will be traveling to attend the Memorial Service being held for Bishop Jim in
Vancouver on January 16th at 3 pm in Christ Church Cathedral. Please let us know if you plan to attend (car-pooling may be
possible).
Please continue to pray for all who mourn the loss of Bishop Jim, especially his family.
If you have any questions or wish to offer your assistance to plan the service, provide food, or help with the booklet, please be in touch with
me.
Blessings, + Barbara

Bishop Jims Memorial Fund:
At the recent meeting of the Administration Committee, the Investment Committee was directed to set up a Legacy Fund in the memory
of Bishop Jim Cruickshank. Donations can be made to the APCI office at 360 Nicola St, Kamloops, BC clearly marked in Memory of
Bishop Jim.
It was decided that 90 per cent of the annual income and realized capital gains would be used to support the work of the Bishop in the
Central Interior, through the Bishops Discretionary Fund or approved projects by the Administration Committee.
In consultant with Bishop Jims family it was decided that the focus of these funds will be used to support the work of Indigenous peoples
for healing and reconciliation (the ongoing work of Truth and Reconciliation), LGBT community in the Central Interior, to support youth
and youth events, for people to attend Sorrento Centre, clergy needs at times of illness or family struggles and education for the laity and
theology students. Since many of the disbursements from the Bishop Discretionary Fund are done discreetly some discretion needs to be
given to the Bishop. Requests for funding should be made to the Bishop and those requests which needs Administration Committee support
will be placed before them by the Bishop.
Tax receipts will be issued for all donations.

A TERRITORY WITHOUT A NAME

As we look to becoming a Territory, the opportunity to rename ourselves became apparent. Coordinating Council at its November
2015 meeting invited all of the parishes of the Central Interior to submit possible names for our new Anglican identity. Please submit
your name to the APCI office at apci@shaw.ca before January 30th. Clearly marking which parish it is coming from and any details
that will help the selection committee in its decision. The Pastoral Elders along with the Administration Committee will do the final
selection of a name for our new Territory. It is rare in our church today that we are given the opportunity to name a new area, a
church, new congregations, etc.
Lets put our creativity to work and see what we can come up with for our new territory.
