Tubing Swivel
10-010-00
The Tubing Swivel is used to provide a means of rotating the tubing while
circulating with treating lines attached to the tubing. The Tubing Swivel is usually
used for operating various Source service tools such as circulating valves, when
used with selective acidizing tools. It is also suitable for any circulating
operations requiring rotation. It is not recommended for heavy drilling or milling
operations.

Safe releasing. When releasing the WRN Retrieving Tool automatically opens
the bypass allowing pressure to equalize before the plug is released.
Short compact design allows setting in applications where the setting area is
restricted such as between perforated intervals.
When using a special adapter recorders may be run below the plug. The
system allows for recorders to be run inside of a tube below the plug to prevent
damage to the recorders while running or retrieving.
The WRS may be lubricated into wells under pressure on wireline or on coiled
tubing.

K-Valve
10-043-00
The K-Valve is a high pressure valve that converts a neutral set packer into a
retrievable bridge plug.
The K-Valve transfers right hand torque to a double grip packer for setting on
tubing. It releases the tubing from the packer and leaves a bridge plug in the well.
To retrieve the plug the valve is re-engaged, the packer is equalized, and torque
can then be applied to release the packer.

Casing Scraper
10-011-00
The Casing Scraper is a spring type, mechanical casing scraper, featuring a
large by-pass area between the blades to allow circulation of debris. The
body is constructed of the highest quality steel, with individual selfsharpening blades using Inconel Springs.
This scraper removes mill scale, burrs, cement sheath, mud cake and any
foreign mater from the inside wall of the casing. The process provides a
smooth, clean surface for the effective sealing of production packers and test
tools.
The Casing Scraper operates well when reciprocated vertically. Normally,
rotation is not necessary unless restrictions are encountered. In areas where
packers or other tools are to be set, the scraper should be reciprocated
through this area two or three times to ensure the casing wall is clean and
smooth.
Features
All thrust and rotational loads are carried by the scraper body and not by the
retaining screws.
Tough alloy self sharpening steel blades are designed for extra long wear.
Scrapers have an API Reg. Box Down for installation above drill bits.

Can set a variety of Packers, Seal Bore Packers, Bridge Plugs, and WRs.
Operation
The bridge plug or packer is made up on SETS tool and ran in to wellbore to
desired depth. The Kelly line is hooked in to the pipe and then filled. Pressure is
applied slowly on to setting tool. The tool will then start to set equipment at 1.400
kPa. The tool will shear off of the tool being set and shift open the circulating
valve. All the pressure will have bled off and the tool may be pulled.

10,000 psi (69,000 kPa) pressure rating on most sizes which makes the
AR-10 suitable for hydraulic fracturing and TCP applications.
The packer both sets and releases with 1/3 turn right hand rotation (at the
packer).
When set the pack-off force is locked into the packer independent of tubing
forces.
Pressure differentials directly load the slips on the low-pressure side of the
packer, which allows the packer to reliably hold high differential pressures.
The AR-10 has the largest available through bore diameter, which allows
for the easy passage of wireline devices through the packer.
A pressure equalizing system allows for safe and easy releasing of the
packer.
The packer contains an integral secondary safety release, which may be
activated by right hand rotation if the packer cannot be released normally.
The design allows the packer to be set shallow using tubing tension to fully
set the packer.
Reliable field proven three element pack-off system.

Z Tool Assembly
10-251-01
The Z Tool Assembly is used to eliminate perforated pups or nipples when a
secondary charge pump is in use.
The Z Tool is run in the production string, spaced out between the two pumps.
The Rod Shifting Box is then run on the rod string and functioned before
landing rotors in stators. Should the well sand off or gas lock, a flushby unit
lifts the rotor out of the stator, shifting the Z Tool to a closed position. This
allows the simultaneous flushing of the charge and primary pumps.
Reinserting the rotor to the original position opens the Z Tool allowing the
charge pump to circulate fluid to the primary pump.
The Z Tool eliminates the need to pull the pump to the surface, thus
minimizing down time and decreasing tubing wear.

S Burst Joint
200-055-00
Burst joints are specially made of treated steel alloy with a close tolerance slot
cut in it to be used as a disposable tubing drain allowing communication to
annulas by pressuring up on the tubing string. This will allow the pipe to drain
should the rod string or pump be seized or parted.

Operation
The Type C Anti-Rotation Anchor is simply run to depth with the
pump. When torque is applied to the tubing the wickers on the rocker
drag slip engage the casing, preventing the tubing from turning
Releasing
Rotate the tubing a small amount to the left to insure the slips are
disengaged and retrieve.

Note: Above differential pressures are based on actual test results. No less than two shear
screws spaced at 180 degrees should be used. Screws should be spaced evenly around the
circumference. Shear value may possibly vary by 10%.
Note: The 2 3/8 and 2 7/8 EUE size tubing drains use the 000-151 shear screw and the 3 1/2
uses the 000-008 shear screw.

One plug, available in three pressures for all tubing sizes, lowers
inventory and cost
Operation:
The Thermal Hydraulic Tubing Drain is simple in design and
utilizes applied hydraulic pressure to rupture the membrane which
opens the fluid port to the casing annulus, with no restrictions.
The Thermal Hydraulic Tubing Drain should be installed box up
and pin down at the desired depth in the tubing string. For hydrostatic head at the drain, and
determination of the proper disc pressure (psi), multiply .433 psi/ft by the drain depth. Then
select the disc with an additional 2,000 psi above the nominal fluid load. (Note: Disc
selection is calculated from pressure differential. Contact Fike or your local Sales
Representative for further assistance.)
Sizes:
The Thermal Hydraulic Tubing Drain is available in the following standard nominal sizes,
using standard API EUE tubing threads. Non-Standard configurations are available on an
engineered design basis. Full tubing inside diameters is standard on all nominal (stock)
sizes.

Antitorque Swivel
10-017-00
The Black Max Antitorque Swivel allows service rigs that do not have a power swivel or a
rotary table, the ability to work-over wells with the use of a mud motor. The swivel can be
used in the unlocked position, where it can turn either direction, or in the locked position,
whereby it contains the motors reactive torque. The locking mechanism is simply activated
by pump pressure and does not require manual setting.
The swivel is rated for 60 tons of axial load and is held at the 18 fishing neck by the
elevators. The connection on the swivel is a 2 3/8 REG pin and it can be crossed over to
any required connection. The assembly has a rigid gooseneck support and it has a 2 NPT
pin for threading into the kelly hose.
An arm supplied with the swivel eliminates the
reactive torque created by the motor. The arm can
vary in length as it rides up and down the sand line.
The arm comes in two different sizes: An 18 to 34
and a 26 to 50. The swivel is designed to endure
torques up to 1000 ft-lbs. The swivel is supplied
with both arm sizes in a carrying basket for easy
handling.

Bumper Subs
30-025-00
The Bowen Fishing Bumper Sub was designed to provide a
relatively inexpensive yet durable bumper sub for use in all
fishing operations. Made from high grade, heat-treated alloy
steels, it has the strength to perform sustained bumping
operations with a minimum of maintenance.
The Bumper Sub is used in all types of fishing operations.
Normally made up in the string just above the fishing tool and/or
safety joint, the Bumper Sub can, at the will of the operator,
deliver solid downward blows of solid upward blows.
The Bumper Sub may be used as a feed-off tool in the
Predetermined Weight Method of internal pipe cutting
described in the Bowen Internal Cutter Instruction Manual.

Junk Baskets
The Bowen Junk Basket ITCO Type is an uncomplicated yet
dependable fishing tool for retrieving all kinds of loose junk. Its
simplicity of design, construction, operation and maintenance is
such that any drilling crew can use it successfully. With free
revolving double catchers, magnet inserts and accessory shoes,
the Junk Basket is indispensable equipment on a rotary drilling
rig.
The Junk Basket is used to retrieve all sorts of junk that may
accumulate at the bottom of a well and which may impede drilling
progress. This junk may be such objects as rock bit cones,
bearings, broken slips, bits of wireline, various string, milling
cuttings, etc. It may also be used to take a core sample, drill a full
gauge hole or to ream the hole.
Page 10-3
Fishing Magnets
Bowen Fishing Magnets are the best special purpose
Fishing tools available for retrieving undrillable objects having
magnetic attraction. Small odd shaped items which cannot be
caught by other conventional (inside or outside catch) fishing
tools are readily attracted and retrieved by Bowen Fishing
Magnets.
Magnets are available in sizes from 1 O.D. through 20 O.D.,
and with all popular threaded pin connections, for wireline or
pipe operation. They are capable of exerting pulls from 5
pounds to 3000 pounds, depending on size; and full circulation
may be maintained through most of the magnets during
service.
The Bowen Magnet Charger is available as an optional
accessory.
Tool failures, milling jobs, and accidents often cause objects
such as bit cones, bearings, slips, mill cuttings, tong pins and
hammers to collect at the bottom of the hole. In many
instances, such objects can only be engaged and retrieved by
magnetic attraction.
Fishing Magnets are an indispensable accessory for all
diamond coring operations. Particles such as chipped bit
teeth and broken bearings can seriously damage or diminish
the performance of a diamond core bit. Often, in a single run
Fishing magnets can completely cleanse the hole of all such
particles, assuring the bits safety and performance.

External Cutters
The Bowen External Cutter is an automatic spring-fed pipe cutter
that provides fast, efficient external cutting and recovery of long
sections of pipe. Due to its automatic spring-fed feature it eliminates
the inadvertent application of excessive strain being applied from the
rig floor, preventing the knives from becoming burned or broken
before the cut is made.
The External Cutter is used to cut and to remove stuck pipe in long
undamaged sections. It is used in conjunction with a washover string
to make a well placed cut to remove the stuck pipe. External Cutters
are capable of cutting all types of stuck drill pipe or tubing or casing.
Interchangeable Spring Dog, Ratchet Pawl, or Slip Assemblies adapt
the External Cutter to any type of drill pipe or tubing to be cut.
Page 10-6
Safety Joints
The Bowen Safety Joint is a two-piece special
connection that can be located at any desired point
in a string of pipe. It will withstand all of the normal
operations of the string, transmit full torque in either
direction or, at the will of the operator, it can be
easily released to salvage all of that portion of the
string above it.
Made up at any desired point in a drilling, fishing,
testing, washover or tubing string, the Safety Joint
operates as a unit unaffected by vibration, inertia of
the bit or drill collars, or while rotating out of the well.
No movement can occur between the two sections
of the Safety Joint nor can it be released without a
specific mechanical procedure. When the need
arises, it is simple to release and to reengage.
A Safety joint is used in a drilling, fishing, testing,
washover or tubing string whenever and wherever a
releasing safety connection is considered to be
desirable.
In Drilling Strings The Safety Joint is usually
located far enough above the drill collars to prevent
compression loading and to avoid sticky or heaving
formations. Drill pipe Safety Joints have drill pipe
box and pin connections with the O.D. and I.D.
corresponding to the drill pipe tool joints.
In Fishing Strings The Safety Joint is usually
located immediately above the grappling or fishing
tool and below any accessory tool such as jars or
bumper subs.
In Drill Stem Testing Strings The Safety Joint is
usually located above the packer and test tool but
below any accessory tool such as a jar or bumper
sub.
In Washover Strings The Safety Joint is located
between the drill pipe and the washover string.
Washover Safety Joints are provided with a drill
pipe box connection and a washover pin connection.
Diameters conform to washover pipe.
In Tubing Strings The Safety Joint is usually located immediately above the tubing catcher
or production packer. Tubing Safety Joints have tubing box and pin connections with O.D.s
corresponding to tubing coupling and I.D.s corresponding to the tubing.

Downhole Mills
10-055-00
Milling tools are designed to mill away a stuck fish that cannot be retrieved by conventional
fishing methods. The Milling Tool selected should provide maximum exposure of the milling
edge to the material to be milled, maximum replacement of the milling edge as wear occurs,
and maximum circulation to remove the cuttings. Examples of Milling Tools are described
below.
Junk Mills are used to mill away metal objects in the hole that
cannot be retrieved with grappling tools or junk baskets. The
blade forms of all Junk Mills are designed so that they hold
the junk to be milled under the milling face. The mill thus cuts
continually rather than sweeping the junk ahead of the blades
The Junk Mills selected should be 1/8 to 1/4 inch less than the
minimum inside diameter of the casing or open hole through
which it is to run.

Spears
30-015-00
The ITCO Type Bowen Releasing Spear is a superior fishing spear
which is designed to assure positive internal engagement with the
fish. It is ruggedly built to withstand severe jarring and pulling strains.
It engages the fish over a large area without damage to, or distortion
of, the fish. The simple design eliminates any small parts which could
become lost or damaged in the hole. If the fish cannot be pulled, the
spear may easily be released and disengaged.
The ITCO Type Releasing Spear is used to internally engage and to
retrieve all sizes of tubing, drill pipe, and casing. It may be used in
conjunction with cutters, spear pack-offs and other tools, where this is
desirable.

Overshots
30-017-00
The Bowen Overshot has gained world-wide
acceptance for fishing by means of external
engagement of a fish. Each Bowen Overshot is a
carefully engineered unit. In service it takes a
positive grip over a large area of fish and is therefore
capable of withstanding extremely heavy pulling,
torsion and jarring strains without damage or
distortion to either the tool or the fish. Bowen
Overshots are continually developed to new
standards of strength and efficiency and are expertly
constructed of the highest quality material.

Fishing Jars
30-000-05
The Bowen Fishing Jar is a straight-pull operated jar which
employs a patented combination of proven principles of
hydraulics and mechanics. This Jar is simple to assemble an
its unique design allows for easy operation
No setting or adjustment is required before going in the hole,
or after the fish has been engaged. The Fishing Jar is
designed to permit the operator to easily and simply control
the intensity of the jarring blow within a wide range, from a
very light impact to a blow of very high impact. The unique
impact control of the Fishing Jar is made possible by the
metering action of the patented cone assembly. As pull is
applied to the Jar, oil is forced from one side of the cone to the
other through a metering slot. By being forced through a
restricted passage, the fluid flow is retarded in such a manner
that the stroke is delayed until the operator has ample time to
take the necessary stretch in the running string (and
Intensifier, when it is used) to strike a blow of given impact.
Another important feature of the Fishing Jar is the ease of
closing or resetting. Only sufficient weight to overcome friction
is required. Closing is free of any danger of causing damage
to the tool, since the metering action does not take place
during resetting. During resetting, large ports are opened in
the cone assembly, allowing unimpeded flow of fluid from one
cavity to the other.
Features
Page 10-18
Jar Intensifiers
30-000-10
The Bowen Jar Intensifier is designed to be run in conjunction with the Type
Z Bowen Oil Jar. Its function is to supply acceleration to the collars and the
upper portion of the Hydraulic Rotary Jar during its (jarring) free stroke.
Each Jar Intensifier is designed to match a corresponding Type Z Bowen Oil
Jar. The Jar Intensifier is essentially a hydraulic fluid spring which stores
energy when a strain is pulled on the running string. When the strain is
removed by the free stroke of the Jar, this stored energy is released,
accelerating the drill collars and jar upward until a blow of high impact is struck.
During conventional jarring operations with either mechanical or hydraulic jars,
the intensity of the blow struck is a function of, and proportional to, the
accelerated rapid movement of the entire running string above the jar. This
accelerated movement will often be considerably diminished by friction of the
running sting against the wall of the hole. In such cases much of the energy
will be lost. Also, at very shallow depth, the lack of available stretch in the
running string causes a great loss in the effectiveness of expected
acceleration, due to very small amount of stretch in the running string being
available.
The Jar Intensifier provides the means to store the required energy
immediately above the jar and drill collars, to effectively offset the loss of
stretch in, or drag on the running string.
An important secondary contribution of the Jar Intensifier is to utilize its
contained hydraulic fluid to cushion the shock of the running string as it
rebounds after each jarring stroke. This reduces the inherent tendency to
cause shock-damage to the tool and running string to a minimum.
Use of the Jar intensifier allows less drill collars to be used in a specific case
that would otherwise be possible. This is particularly true at shallower
operating depth, where excessive number of drill collars are sometimes used to
utilize mass in place of available stretch. Use of too many drill collars with their
great mass is often damaging to the tools and the running string, and should be
avoided.
