GENERAL
INTRODUCTION
BC Conduit has started production of a variety of high quality unplasticised polyvinyl chloride (UPVC)
compounds in its state-of-the-art factory in Bahra, which has an annual output capacity of over 36,000
tons.
The company sources UPVC feedstock for the new factory from Saudi Basic Industries Corporation
(SABIC) to produce the granule used for jacketing and insulating the cables. SABIC is one of the worlds
largest manufacturers of UPVC and the sole producer in Saudi Arabia.
The factory built with the expertise of Buss Company of Switzerland, is completely integrated and
equipped with the latest technologies in the field.
The ability to manufacture UPVC compounds improves BCCs control over the material used in its cable
and wire production, reduces product cost and adds higher performance values to its products.
The new factory also eliminates the need for local sourcing of UPVC compounds, ensures superior
quality production of cables and creates more career opportunities in the region at the same time.
AREA
Bahra Cables Company has a total land area of about 300,000sqm at disposal.
The built-up area, including offices and plant, of start up phase is more than 100,000sqm.

MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONS
MATERIAL INTRODUCTION
Unplasticised Poly(Vinyl Chloride), commonly known as UPVC, was first recognized and characterized
more 110 years ago, but due to its poor thermal stability making processing difficult, it was potentially
introduced to the market only by 1930.
The problem caused by poor thermal stability were overcome by development of suitable stabilizers
systems and UPVC is now one of the worlds leading synthetic polymer having very diverse applications.
The ability to change its properties, by the addition of plasticisers, from a hard rigid material to one that
is soft and flexible enables a wide variety of processing equipment to be used to produce an almost
limitless range of products to a thick cream.
UPVC is used for the production of extrusions and molding. And it is universally accepted as having the
most suitable properties for use within the electrical industry.
BC Conduit Standards
BC Conduit UPVC products are manufactured in accordance with the British Standards, American
Standard, SASO Standard, and UL Standards.
(*BS 6099: Part 1; Conduit for electrical installations. Specification of general requirements, is
superseded, withdrawn and replaced by BS EN 50086-1.
BS EN 50086-1; Conduit for electrical installations. Specification of general requirements superseded
and replaced by BS EN 61386-1).
BS EN 61386 (IEC 61386), Conduit Systems for cable management.
SASO (Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization) and GSO (Standardization Organization
for GCC). GSO 33; Plastic Conduits and Fittings for elctrical installations.
BC Conduit UPVC materials used and tested in accordance with the British Standards (BS 4607: Part 1
and BS 476: Part 7).
IEE Wiring Regulations: Bahra System complies with all the relevant requirement of the latest edition
of the BS 7671 (IEE Wiring Regulations).

Thermal Properties
All BC Conduit UPVC products are planned to hold local thermal expansion. Fitting procedures and
instruction required to deal with the different movement at the interface with the building fabric.
Coefficient of linear expansion(Conduits) : 5.5 x 10-5 per C (5mm/3000mm with a temp. rise of 25oC).
Coefficient of linear expansion (Trunking) :23 x 10-6 per C (1mm/m for 40oC rise).
Operating Temperature : -5oC to 60oC (Minimum and Maximum Temperature)
Vicat Softening Point: 81oC
Thermal Conductivity : 0.19W/m/k
Chemical Properties
BC Conduit UPVC(Chemical Resistance) is non corrosive (corrosive free) & not affected by sea water. It
has excellent resistance to mineral acids, alkalines and detergents, good resistant to alcohols , but liable
to attack from solvents such as ketones, aromatics and hydrocarbons.
* Corrosion only occur, to any extent when ph is less than 3 or greater than 9.
Mechanical Properties
BC Conduit UPVC products (Impact Resistance under normal climatic conditions, BS EN 50086 or its
replacement IEC 61386-21 (formerly BS 6099)).
Electrical Properties
BC Conduit UPVC products are non conductive.
Dielectric Strength :
40 kV/mm in DBP
17 kV/mm in Tx oil
Resistivity : 1014 cm
Resistance to 0.03 ohm rnm-/m
Workability, Durability & Maintenances

All BC Conduit UPVC products are light weight and can be readily cut & drilled with hand tools. Short
component length can be readily included, reducing wastage of material. The covers & accessories are
manufactured under fine tolerances to ensure a tight fit with ease of removal. Also can be cleaned with
wet cloth & household detergents (neutral 5/7 pH value), possible to decorate also with commercial
paint. Resistant to staining. Stop ends are tenable to the carriers. All BC Conduit products can maintained
their high performance characteristics and stable.

BC Conduit high impact UPVC conduit offers a cost effective solution for both new and renovations
contracts. The conduit available in sizes each with 4 different grades. The wide ranges of our fittings
& supplementary products resources that almost any installation can be specified with confidence. The
conduits of BC Conduit easily cut using hacksaw or snips due to its light weight and also bent cold
due to its smaller sizes. Thanks to these advantages, installation will be 50% quicker than using steel.
Modification and repairs are quicker and simpler to be done.

CONDUIT (ROUND SECTION HEAVY GAUGE HIGH IMPACT)

For classic conduit installation this provides a high degree of fortification or safety.
Temperature range: -5OC to 60OC (Minimum and Maximum), complies with BS 6099 section 2.2

Cable Capabilities of Conduit

The technique which can be used to establish the size of conduit or trunking required to hold cables
of the same size, or different sized. The number of cables arrange in an enclosure of a wiring system
shall be such that no damage is caused to the cables or to the enclosure during their installation. The
process employs a unit system, each cable size being allocated a part. The sum of all parts for the cables
intended to be run in the same enclosure is evaluate against the parts given for the conduit in order to
decide the size of the conduit required to hold those cables.

TECHNICAL
Types of Run
It has been required for conduit to distinguish the run exceed 2.9m (the run not exceeding 2.9 meters
in length) and runs of any length put in bend or sets as:
1. Straight Run not exceeding 2.9 meters in length.
2. Straight Run exceeding 2.9 meters in length.
(The word Bend signifies a British Standard 90o Bend and one double set is equivalent to one bend)
Case 1. Each conduit size is represented by only one part.
Case 2. Each conduit size has a inconsistent part which is dependent on the length of run and the
number of bends or Expansion Couplings. For a certain size of cables the part allocated to case 1 is not
the same as case 2 above.
Variable Factors (Inconsistent Part) Different variable parts affect the effort to arrive at a standard
method of evaluating the capability of conduit. Some of these are the following:
- Tolerance in cables sizes
- Reasonable Care (of drawing in)
- Tolerance in conduit
- Acceptable use of the space available
15 YEARS GUARANTY
BC Conduit shall guaranty and warranty the supplied UPVC conduits and accessories for a period of 15
years for indoor use only, from the date of delivery against the products malfunction due to material,
workmanship and manufacturing defects.
BC Conduit guaranty and warranty shall not apply if the customer uses or installs the products improperly,
when such an improper use is judged using the national and /or internationally recognized standards
and codes of the electrical Industry.
The Guaranty shall not extend to items not manufactured by BC Conduit, or to any damages or defects
resulting from the use of products in a manner other than what these intentionally designed for, nor the
mishandling or misuse during their transport or storage.
Conduits, Grades, Area and Weights
BC conduits are manufactured and tested as per IEC / EN 61386 (previously BS 6099) to withstand a
wide range of impact and compression forces starting with Medium Duty (3321) for flush and service
applications, Heavy Duty (4421) for ceiling and wall installations, and Extra Heavy Duty (5521) for
installation inside bulk concrete in temperature range of -5oC to 60oC.

CABLE CAPACITIES OF CONDUITS

(Based on Appendix 12 IEE Regulations 17th Edition to the latest edition)
1.
For each cable it is intended to use obtain the appropriate cable factor.
2.
Add all the cable factors so obtained and compare with the factors for conduit/trunking.
3.
The size of trunking/conduit which will satisfactorily accommodate the cables is that size
having a factor equal to or exceeding the sum of the cable factors.

BC American Standard Conduits:

Heavy wall and extra-heavy wall rigid plastic (UPVC) conduit, fittings and accessories designed for
installation underground, in slab, encased or light weight, high-impact strength and low installation
costs. Supplied in standard 10 lengths, with or without belled ends.
Encased in concrete or direct burial for underground applications, also for exposed or concealed
applications aboveground. Sunlight resistant, rated for use with 90C conductors, reduced smoke and
HCL emissions, superior weathering characteristics.
Specifications: UL type 40 rated for 90C cable can be used in above ground or below ground applications
subject to severe physical abuse.
UPVC Material
Rigid UPVC Compound which fully meets the material requirements of American specifications for cell
as per ASTM D 1784 and ASTM D 4396 as specified in NEMA Standards.

15 YEAR GUARANTY
BC Conduit shall guaranty and warranty the supplied UPVC conduits
and accessories for a period of 15 years for indoor use only, from the
date of delivery against the products malfunction due to material,
workmanship and manufacturing defects.

BC Conduit guaranty and warranty shall not apply if the customer

uses or installs the products improperly, when such an improper
use is judged using the national and /or internationally recognized
standards and codes of the electrical Industry.
The Guaranty shall not extend to items not manufactured by BC
Conduit, or to any damages or defects resulting from the use of
products in a manner other than what these intentionally designed
for, nor the mishandling or misuse during their transport or storage.
