Kabaddiaresimple:twoteamsofsevenplayerseachfaceoffinalargesquare
arenafortwohalvesoftwentyminuteseach.Playersfromeachteamtake
turnsrunningacrossthecenterlinetotheotherteam'shalfofthecourt,
taggingmembersoftheotherteam,andrunningback.Themoreopposing
teammemberstheytag,themorepointstheyscore,butiftheopposingteam
canphysicallypreventthemfromcrossingbacktotheirhalfofthecourt,they
scorenopoints!

Playinaflat,rectangulararena13meters(42.7ft)widex10meters(32.8ft)
long.
Thesearetheofficialmeasurementsforprofessionalmen'sKabaddiifyou're
justplayingcasuallywithfriends,yourplayareadoesn'tneedtobeexactlythis
size.[1]However,itshouldbeflat,open,androughlyrectangular.
Forwomen'sKabaddi,thecourtsizeisslightlysmaller12meters(39.4ft)wide
x8meters(26.2ft)long.
Uselinesandmarkingstodividethecourtappropriately.Thefollowingarethe
officialcourtmarkingsasspecifiedforprofessionalKabaddiagain,ifyou'replaying
casuallywithfriends,yourmarkingsdon'tneedtobeexact.[2]
Boundarylines:Thelinesattheedgeofthe13meterx10metercourt.
Playarealines:Theselinesmarka13meterx8meterrectangularareainside
thecourtonemeterofspaceseparateseachsidefromthe10meterboundary
linesabove.
Midline:Thislinedividesthecourtintotwo6.5meters(21.3ft)x8meterhalves.
Eachteam's"territory"istheplayareaonitssideofthemidline.
Baulklines:Theselinesrunparalleltothemidlineandare3.75meters(12.3ft)
fromitoneitherside.
Bonuslines:Theselinesrunparalleltothebaulklinesandare1meter(3.3ft)
fromthemonthesideoppositethemidline.
Divideintotwoteamsofsevenplayerseach.Traditionally,fourplayersfromeach
teamtakeeachsideofthefield,leavingeachteamwiththreeplayersheldinreserve.
However,somevariationsofKabaddicallforallsevenplayerstotakethefieldatonce.

InKabaddi,teamstaketurnssendingplayers(called"raiders")acrossthemidline
totheotherteam'ssideofthecourt.Theraidertriestotagmembersoftheother
teamandrunbacktohissideeachplayerhetouchesequalsonepointfor
histeamifhemakesitbacksafely.
However,theraidermuststartrepeatedlyyelling"Kabaddi"beforehecrossesthe
midlineandcannotstoprepeatingthisworduntilhecrossesbackovertohis
team'sside.Ifhestopsyellingortakesabreathontheopponent'ssideofthe
court,evenmomentarily,hemustreturntohisownsideofthecourt,scoringno
points.Inthiscase,onepointisawardedtothedefendingteamforasuccessful
play.
Eachmemberofateammustraidinsequenceifateammemberraidsoutof
order,theopposingteamgetsonepoint.
Ifyourteamdoesn'tgofirst,defend!
Ifyourteamisbeingraided,youandtheotherthreeplayersinplayare"anti
raiders"or"stoppers."Yourgoalistokeeptheraiderfromtaggingyouand
crossingbackoverthemidline.Youcandothiseitherbyrunningawayfromhim
untilherunsoutofbreathorphysicallyrestraininghimbytacklingorgrabbinghim.
Notethataraidermaynotbegrabbedorheldbyhisclothes,hair,oranypartof
hisbodyotherthanhislimbsandtorso.[3]
Taketurnsalternatingbetweenraidinganddefending.
Thetwoteamsalternatebetweenraidinganddefendingfortwohalvesoftwenty
minuteseach(withafiveminutebreakbetweenhalves.)
Afterhalftime,thetwoteamsswitchsidesofthecourt.
Theteamwiththemostpointsattheendofthegamewins!
Sendplayersoutwhentheyaretagged,captured,orbreakarule.InKabaddi,
playerscanbetemporarilysent"out"ofplayforavarietyofreasons.Ifthishappens,
theymaynotbereplacedbyplayersinreservesubstitutionsareonlymadeforplayers
whoarenotout.Belowarealistofcircumstancesinwhichaplayermaybesentout.
Iftheraidertagsanydefendingplayersandmakesitbacktohisside,theplayers
hetaggedareout.
Ifaraideriscapturedandcannotpassbackoverthemidlinebeforeherunsoutof
breath,heisout.
Ifanyplayer(raidingordefending)stepsoutsidetheboundarylines,heisout
(unlesshewasdeliberatelypulledorshoved,inwhichcase,theoffendingplayeris
out.)
Ifateamhasthreeunproductiveraidsinarow,thethirdraiderisout.An
unproductiveraidoccurswhenaraidercannotscoreanypoints(orlosespoints)
duringaraid.However,ifaraidercancrossthebaulklineandreturntohissideof
thecourt,theraidcountsasasuccessfuloneevenifhedoesn'ttaganyone.
Ifadefendingteammemberenterstheraider'ssideofthecourtbeforehisteamis
officiallygiventhechancetoraid,heisout.

"Revive"playersbygettinganopponentout.Wheneveryourteamgetsamember
oftheopponentteamout,youhaveachancetobringback(or"revive")someoneon
yourteamwhohaspreviouslybeenruledout.Thisistrueforbothraidinganddefending

Scorea"Lona"bygettingtheentireotherteamout.Ifyoucangettheentireother
teamoutatonceforanycombinationofreasonsandnoneoftheirplayersareeligible
forrevival,yourteamscoresa"Lona"(twoextrapointsforthatplay.)
Whenthishappens,theentireopposingteamisrevived.
Scorea"supercatch"bycapturingtheopponentwiththreeorfewerdefenders.
Ifyourteamisdefendingwithlessthanthreeplayersandyoustillmanagetoprevent
theraiderfromgettingbacktohissideofthecourt,youscoreanadditional"supercatch"
point.
Thispointisontopofthepointyougetforgettingtheraiderout,soyougettwo
pointsintotalfortheplay.
Scorepointswhenyouropponentsbreakthegame'srules.Mostpenaltiesin
Kabaddiresultinonepointbeingawardedtotheopposingteam.Belowisalistofoffenses
thatcanearntheopposingteampoints.[5]
Ifaraidersaysanythingbesidesthepreapproved"Kabbadi"chantwhileheis
raiding,theraidisoverandthedefendingteamgetsapointplusthechancetoraid
(buttheraiderisnotout.)
Iftheraiderstartshischantlate(inotherwords,afterhecrossesthemidline),the
raidisoverandthedefendingteamgetsapointplusthechancetoraid(but,again,
theraiderisnotout.)
Ifaraidergoesoutoforder,thedefendingteamgetsapointandtheraidisover.
Ifmorethanoneraiderentertheopponent'scourtatonce,theraidisoverandthe
defendingteamgetsapoint.
Ifanydefendersentertheraider'ssideofthecourtbeforeitistheirturntoraid,
eachdefenderthatdoessoearnsapointfortheotherteam.
If,afteraLona,thewipedoutteamdoesn'treturnitsrevivedplayersbacktothe
fieldwithintenseconds,theopposingteamearnsonepoint.
Iftheraider'steammatesattempttohelphimbycallingoutwarningsoradvice,the
defendingteamgetsapoint.
IfplayersdeliberatelygetoutinordertoforceaLonaandrevivetheirteam
members,theopposingteamscoresanextrapointforeachoffendingplayerthat
wasonthefieldinadditiontothetwoLonapoints.
