RESEARCH QUESTION AND HYPOTHESIS
This PHD in Practice proposal asks critical questions which contributes to the understanding of 'meaningful social change' in 'the practice of collaborative leadership'. To provoke deep transformation in society, we can understand development as “a process in which a community of people strives to make it possible for all its members to satisfy their fundamental human needs and to enhance the quality of their lives” (Hope and Timmell p.86). This is a crucial exploration as communities across the world face increasing inequality and require programmes where people become objects, rather than subjects, in their own reality. Collaborative leadership involves creating strong, connected communities that reduce suffering and increase vitality and participation to create meaningful social change and the ability to feel alive. As Freire states, finding meaning and building community is a pedagogy, it is about going beyond epistemological curiosity by engaging in praxis. My hypothesis is that ‘Meaningful social change is brought about through the practice of collaborative leadership and transformative development which is critical for people to be fully human’.
