Problem Description

Training Manual

Consider a Probe which protrudes into a flow field and subjected to a

high flow velocity

We would like to know how a 100 m/s velocity through the flow
passage will affect the probe structurally:
Find equivalent stresses, calculate deformations

This type of analysis is available under Custom Systems in the

Workbench Toolbox
In this case the fluid flow solution has already been completed

Open the Project

Training Manual

1. Open Probe.wbpj in Workbench

2. From the Project page, ensure that Named Selections will be

transferred between applications:

Tools > Options > Geometry Import

Check box for Named Selections and remove NS for Filtering
Prefix

Project Schematic

Training Manual

3. Drag Static Structural (ANSYS) from the Analysis Systems

toolbox and drop it onto the Solution cell of the Fluid Flow
system (cell A5)

Links are created to share the

geometry and to transfer the
Fluid Flow Solution to the
Static Structural Setup. The
solution data will be used as
a pressure load in the Static
Structural system.

Load from CFX

Training Manual

10. Expand the Imported Load

(Solution) item and select
Imported Pressure

Note that both the static

pressure of the flow field and
the shear stress at the walls
will be included

11. Click once in the Geometry

field, select all 7 external
surfaces then click Apply in
the Geometry field
12. Select Probe from the CFD
Surface list

This is the wall boundary
