Overview
Daniel is a paralysed teenager who just got back from rehab
after being involved in a road accident. He loses both his
legs and is now on a wheelchair. His whole life got turned
upside down when he made the wrong choices and now he is all
alone, feeling depressed and helpless. As the day goes by, he
wanders around his local neighbourhood just thinking to
himself. He bumps into old friends, only to be ignored and
refuses help when offered. They day only keeps getting worse
and only one thought keeps creeping into his mind; suicide.
The genre of this short film is drama; the following are
examples of dramas
- Forrest Gump (1994)
- Frida (2002)
- Titanic (1997)
Target Audience
Our short film is targeted at audiences aged 12 to 30 since by
doing research and looking at similar films which influences
our film all tend to be aimed at audiences aged 12 to 30. We
also have chosen this particular age groups as our main
protagonist is within this age group and the audience can
relate to him; either because theyve experienced what the
main character is experiencing or they know someone who has
had such an experience.

Promotion/Publication

Thuvaaragan Kuruparan

YouTube will be our main method of

promoting our production as many of
those in our target audience are
highly likely to use it and also as
its an efficient way to upload our production and get it
across to a wide audience, hence increasing the status
and popularity.
Another way to promote our film would be
through popular social networking sites
such as Twitter or Facebook. These social networking
sites are extremely popular with the public and more
importantly with our main target audience. Therefore,
promoting it through these sites will only
increase its popularity.

We are also blogging all of our production work through

Blogger. This is also a great way of promoting our
production as many young people use blogger to keep up
with news and interests and therefore it will create
awareness amongst the users.

Comparable products researched into

Forrest Gump (1994) Forrest Gump is about a man
who was disabled in his younger years and was
unable to walk and was also mentally ill. He
however turned his life around and went on to achieve great
things in life. This is related to our production as like
Forrest, our main protagonist is also disabled. He also went
through struggles in life but unlike Forrest, he was unable to
turn his life around for the good.

Representation

Thuvaaragan Kuruparan

Our final product could be classed as a countertype as

usually in a drama, the problem is resolved. The protagonist
before the accident is a stereotypical teenager who drank
alcohol, smoked and also was a thief. This may be something
some of our audience can relate to, wrongfully being
categorised with characters like the protagonist.

How to test our final product?

As a group, we came to the conclusion that the best way to
test our final products success is by uploading it on social
media and YouTube and seeing how many Likes and views it
gets. Also, another way we can test our success is through
handing out post questionnaires to see what some of our
audience think of it. Once we collect the results, we can
compare this with the results of the pre-questionnaire and see
if we met the audiences expectations or if we didnt. We hope
that these two methods will help us get a clear understanding
of whether we were a success or not.

Generic codes and conventions

Soliloquy Emphasises on the main characters

loneliness, grabbing the audiences attention.
Freeze Frame Emphasis on the frame. Lets the
realisation sink in.
Flashbacks The audience will realise how and why
certain things turned out the way they did.
Lighting Can easily change the general mood and
atmosphere.
Conflicts Heightens the interests of the audience.
Struggles Allows further empathy
Realisation at the end Allows the audience to relate
and to also sympathise.

Money

Time Management

Equipment and Props

We know money will be a problem

for us as hiring a wheelchair
and also buying props can be
expensive. For example, we
worked out that hiring a
wheelchair for a week would cost
us 15 a week. Therefore, if we
have to re-film some scenes, it
would cost us a lot.
We need to be extremely time
efficient as other groups will
also be hiring out equipment
such as cameras. Also, the
actors wont always be free and
therefore we need to make sure
we film what we need to, to our
best ability each session.
Props and equipment are an
essential part of the filming
and therefore we need to ensure
that we are well organised and
bring what we need to each
filming session. We need to make
sure that the props such as the
wheelchair is booked for the
sessions and also that the
equipment such as the camera are
booked.
