I think it's a combination of experiencing something new

and something outside of people's comfort zone. People
want to laugh, cry and shriek and the people who enjoys
shrieking the most are probably inclined to watch horror
movies! For me personally I love the horror genre for its
dark nature and you know, peering through the looking
glass and all that. :)

The Thing (1980s) x 9

I believe it is because it takes people outside their

comfort zone and maybe subjects them to an adrenaline
thrill ride that maybe they don not experience in day to
day life. In the zeitgeist of today the opertunity for horror
to be experienced is not possible, and those who like to
test their reactions will jump at any opertunity especially
as they are able to choose the scenario from a vast
plethora of films.

The Fog

watch it (e.g scared to look under the bed, go into a dark
room etc)

The Shining

It's a way for you to experience something wrong

without anything actually happening to you. When I'm
done watching a horror movie, I love talking about it with
my friends and we discuss what we would have done in
that situation

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

People like getting scared, of having the sensation of

fear - only in the movies, they know it's not real and it's
easy to brush off. This thrill of fear and danger, if they
were "real", would give a really big rush and an overall
euphoric feeling.

The Thing x 2

Horror is a genre that talks about what people are not

free to discuss in polite society. It gives insight into the
anxieties and preoccupations of our culture at a specific
historical moment. It's the voice in the greater cultural
conversation that most asks us to listen to it and think
about what it's saying.

The Woman in Black

They're cool

Trailer Park of Terror

Adrenaline rush

Trapped Ashes

People enjoy to be scared. They enjoy the build up of

adrenaline. They also enjoy that moment at the end of
some of them where the twist is revealed

scares me, not jumps me off my seat, i mean digs into
my brain and literally terrifies me DEEP.

Unfriended x 2

To feel a rush when getting scared

fun
thrill

tension, as well as nostalgia.
The adrenaline rush that comes from being scared.
Scary movies can be a way for people to explore a
different part of their psyche that they otherwise wouldn't
be aware of.
For the thrill and adrenaline of vicarious experience,
without being in any real danger.
Because people are masochists.
Adrenaline rush and escapism
Escapism, makes them feel better about their own
reality, the adrenaline rush
I think people like to be scared without actually being in
any real danger.
Because it causes an adrenaline rush and I also think
that they provide insight into actual societal fear for each
culture
you can feel like you're in danger when your actually
safe. It's a controlled experience.
Adrenaline
Entertainment
They enjoy being scared, even though that makes no
sense.
In know
It's like a roller coaster ride. You survived. That, or they
can be hilarious.
I think it's because in most people's lives we never get
truly scared. Also sometimes ya just need to see a
bunch of gore
To get a scare and ultimately a thrill - like a rollercoaster,
without having to actually experience it themselves.
To feel scared and thrilled
