United States and in Southeast Asia such as Art Stage Miami, Art Central, and Art Shanghai.
We thank all of our artists who have been with us throughout the years. You have been an
important part of our gallery family. We hope that in the coming year we will have more
successful projects.
The gallery is proud to present a selection of works by some of the gallery artists on our 36th
anniversary exhibition.
Best wishes to all.

This past year the gallery has sponsored a fundraiser for the children of Nepal who were
affected by the devastating earthquake. One of our artist, Elling Reitan, has had one of

TIRIL BENTON

Atha

Acrylic on canvas. 42x42in.

Ashok Jain Gallery

I am an intuitive painter. Each canvas is approached with a

feeling of excitement, wonder, and a sense of adventure,
free of any preconceived ideas or sketches. The concept
will manifest itself as the painting evolves. Each painting to
me, is a record of an extraordinary moment of existence,
a confirmation in the reality of the journey of the spirit.
Always cognizant of the tenuous balance necessary for the
paintings evolution, I yield to a greater force. It is within this
state of thoughtless awareness I find I am able to connect
on a level that I cannot verbalize. I believe that through the
language of art, and the employment of color we are able
to communicate on the highest vibrational level.

Tiril was born and educated in London. A self-taught artist who works primarily in acrylics, Tiril
spontaneously began painting as an adult following the death of her mother in 2000. In the
tradition of Joan Mir and Robert Motherwell, Tiril paints by automatismaccessing material from
the subconscious and unconscious mind as part of her creative process. The archetypal symbolism
emerging from Tirils paintings has attracted international attention, and Tiril has exhibited widely
and won awards in both the United States and Europe. She is a naturalized citizen of the United
States and resides in Huntsville, Alabama.

BLAIR BERGER

Lamb

Enamel and acrylic on canvas. 48x48in.

Ashok Jain Gallery

The work is product of the way in which I view the world,

and also the way I see myself. It is self-conscious and
self-critical to a highly specific aesthetic, and feel. The
process is aggressive and the work reflects a strong tension
between two opposing forces. I reproduce a familiar depth
in darkness; though in the prevailing light are unimagined
joys, and the palpable bliss of pure freedom.
It is art meant for a place with fewer, or looser rules. It
intends to be most unique and the work cares not of
precedent. Though playful, it remains fiercely independent.
The work requires an acute sense of design, and the
uncanny ability to structure chaos. The act provides an
outlet of expression otherwise unattainable in my life.
In essence, I retreat to my dream world in order to create
my dream world, so that I may then live in my dream world.

themes as landscape, urbanism and mankind as his
subjects in figurative and abstract works.

Ashok Jain Gallery

I endeavour to capture the energy of the psyche

and spirit as particles of subtle truths reflected in the
intensity of my experiences. Scripting formations in the
stream of consciousness create movement, change and
unpredictability in my paintings.
Colours to me, are like a time line and portrait of the inner
self which I attempt to interrelate dynamically, creating a
symphonic vibration with a freedom that cannot be taught.

Ashok Jain Gallery

Artist Irene Christensen manages to divide her time producing

her work not only in her studios in New York City as well as in
Oslo, Norway, but also for one month each year in Costa Rica.
I am an artist who has for years developed my own fantasy
images - both organic and constructive.
I am involved in creating a personal iconography. These
symbols are rooted in the figurative and landscape images with
colors setting moods rather than copying nature.
I transform simple forms into my mythology. The knowable and
the possible visuals are melded through sensual intuition. I like
to maintain a sense of wonder in my art.

The technical aspects of painting remain the same.necessary

and essential, however, they are as unconsciously accomplished
when I work as is breathing. The painting itself draws out the
heart and soul of me simply by me picking up the palette
knife and brush and allowing the piece to live. I do not
question this and by my acceptance of it, each painting takes
on a life and purpose of its own. Through this amazing act of
creation, I am grateful to share my love and joy with the world.

ROSANNE EBNER

Fill Her Up

Clay. 27x11x9in.

Ashok Jain Gallery

How I am perceived as I age has been a major theme in my

work. Im aging now and find myself attracted to architecture
and their aging surfaces. I enjoy exploring the beauty found
in the erosive layers. As it ages the color starts to fade, new
surfaces are added to clean and renew, they fade and more
marks appear, each stage revealing a new story. I create ceramic
tiles by building layers with texture, slip and glazes which help
me engage in the process of forcibly aging the industrial.
As a woman no longer attracting attention, feeling invisible,
I question how women of a certain age are viewed and
valued. The contrast of the organic with the industrial reveals
the challenges that women experience with age. Through
my figurative sculpture I examine the different stages of
womanhood, using industrial elements as metaphors for our
aging bodies.

Fosli works with oil paintings and lithographies. She is a

colorist and an abstract expressionist. Central to Foslis art is
depersonalized human representations and torsos. She stated
that she is trying to convey the wonder of our existence with
her art expression, and also highlight an imbalance seen in our
society in a global perspective. She makes extensive use of
symbolism inspired by Munchs symbolism.

MARCIA GOMES

After Dark

Mixed media paper. 38x27in.

Ashok Jain Gallery

My interest in working with paper dates back to my earliest

childhood, when I used to cut up magazines and fabrics to
make my own fashion designs. Specializing in collages, the
choice of paper is for my work of essence, with special emphasis
on rare and unusual kinds (i.e. from vegetables, fruits, leaves),
originating from different parts of the world. I transform the
character of the paper through layering, juxtaposition and
manipulation. It is the harmony of textures and opacities,
arranged in abstract composition, that hides the original
character of its elements and creates a mysterious and thoughtprovoking message. Recently, for the first time, I began a series
of books that feature small-scale collages.

Using organic shapes, the artist shows the relationship

of all life forms to another as natures rhythms and
movements are never still, always changing. Influenced
by the Circle of Life found in Native American culture,
the artist hopes to convey a message of peace to
all people. In the circle all life exists in harmony and
balance.
The artist works in oil paint on canvas, board or

Being born with a proclivity for colors and forms that constitute
the visual world, I find great happiness to be among fellowartists that are committed to bring our invisible selves by way

My artistic vision is defined by a passionate commitment

to art and nature. The abstracted landscape imagery
that I depict emerges from personal exploration and
revelation. Spending time outdoors, especially in
wild places, has been a great source of inspiration. I
find it valuable to slow down and carefully observe
the world around me; although I can be lead to
esoteric interpretations and often stray from literal
representation. The resulting work becomes subtlety
metaphoric, reflecting common rhythms and analogous
truths. Subjects for my work are based in the natural
world, and their portrayal often refers to the integrity of
form within an environment and explores concepts of
transcendence.

Species Are Dying Around Us

Acrylic on canvas. 36x36in.

Welcome to my world of Other Realities.

I am a painter of mystical figurative paintings and
abstractions composed of
acrylic paint and found objects. My concern is for the
future of our planet.
The animate and inanimate objects within
the paintings reflect many incarnations.
The message being that it is possible to create rather
than destroy...

Mixed media collage. 24x24in.

All Art is abstract art at subatomic level, so is all imagery. All this
comes filtered through the memory of genes, of previous births,
and and the present. Memory at all levels, and dreams at all levels,
intermingle with each other, and find expression through whichever
media an artist is comfortable with, and has access to, and currently
using in his or her art practice.
I feel the divine presence in nature and people, animals and birds. I
empathize with places I have lived and try to bring out the essence
of that place through my creations.
At times the stream of consciousness makes me use overlap as tool
to express collage of imagery, which expresses in autopilot. I find it
is the joy of creation that matters. I have been enjoying creating art
all my life, whether it is drawing, painting, printmaking, art film , art
video or work in Mansa-media (a special blend of mixed media).

An Afternoon with Claude

Acrylic on canvas. 30x24in. 2015.

Ashok Jain Gallery

My paintings are conversations between my eyes, my head, my

heart, my gut, and the canvas in front of me. This is true whether
I am painting abstract work from the inside of my head or out of
doors. I paint as result of my radical amazement at the beauty
of visual world and my need to turn that experience into paint.
Nature is my frame of reference. I paint what nature leaves with
me. I am concerned with light and what light does to color,
which is why I call myself an Abstract Impressionist. I like to
entice and engage my viewers, drawing them into a fresh and
beautiful world. I hope my artwork will lead to people noticing
the beauty in nature; a healing beauty.
I try to capture the essence in my painting, the color and the
emotion, and leave the rest to the viewers imagination, to bring
him into the painting.

Sai Morikawa is New York based professional artist.

Her background in academic anatomical studies and
visual perception is complemented by a focus on the
importance of individual expression in the making of art.
Her dynamic color brush strokes are influenced by the
Abstract Expressionists. She paints mostly from direct
observation. Creating relationship between color and
shape is very important to her.
She has dedicated her life to the creation of art and has
made a substantial career out of painting contemporary
fine artworks.
From 2002 to present, Ms. Morikawa has exhibited solo shows/ group shows at Ashok Jain Gallery,
NY which is her representative gallery in NY. and group shows at Hpgrp gallery, NY in 2007, 2008.

the costume designer for the Beijing Olympic game, also world wide famed an architect Mr. Tadao
Ando, also an artist Mr. Tadanori Yokoo or anonymous well-known artists or art directors.

NAO NAKAMURA

Ever

Leather. 60x60in.

Ashok Jain Gallery

For fifteen years, I studied various techniques under professional

artists; drawing, painting, oils, inks. After my experience working
in the fashion industry (and experiencing the endless cycle of
producing new things only to have them be reduced to sale
prices and then thrown out to make way for a new round of the
next seasons latest thing), I became frustrated. There was no
art. I think of my art as akin to tattooing ones skin because of the
connotations it evokes; its permanent, everlasting, cannot be
erased, and genuine.
My art is not stamping or branding leather, or simply painting
images on canvas. For me, using paper or canvas is not daring
or courageous enough. Like last years fashions, it could easily
be replaced, mass-produced, or thrown out. My unique process
combines the idea of traditional Japanese tattoo art (its history,
techniques, and images), and elements of modern Western tattoo
culture. Integrating aspects of both these worlds, my work seeks to
merge and transform them into a new kind of higher art.

ELLING REITAN

Nordic Noir

Oil on canvas. 100cmx125cm.

Ashok Jain Gallery

Elling Reitan is a pupil of Odd Nerdrum and Bjrn

Sverrbo and his mentor is Jens Johannessen. He
dedicates to Jens Johannessen his use of the butterfly
motif which in many of his works spreads its wings out
from a womans body or from a picture in the picture.
However, the artist has found and developed his own,
specific style, often influenced by Edvard Munch and
religious Middle Age motifs in strong colours.
Today, Elling Reitan is one of Norways most reknown
and popular, contemporary multiartists (paintings,
watercolours, coal drawings, lithographs, colour etchings
(carborundum), serigraphs with mixed media and
glassware art) and hardly anything in his artworks now
shows sign of his artistic education and influence. He has
found his personal style which is unique for him, strong
colours, motifs and composition and the final art works
acknowledge Elling Reitans special hallmark. He is often
called The artist with the beautiful colours.
The Stroke Pair
The pair in black and white (Yin and Yang) was utilized for the first time in 1983, mainly to create
depth- and perspective effects. Today the stroke pair has found its natural place in all of Elling
Reitanss works on an equal level as the artists own signature.

At the beginning there was nothing...and then came the

Sun...the Wind...and Us.
I am from this century, no better or worse period than
any other one gone...and I have still the chance to
experience it with a free body, mind and soul.
Questions? If life were an illusion, where could one find
the meeting point among reality and illusion? I have no
answer. I am living for eternity as a part of the big game.
What about my feelings? They are what I am and
depending of reality of life, whilst accepting that
everything, relating tothe Future, is being created in the
future itself, every single second.
Life is short and the world will carry on without me one

I am exploring abstract forms inspired by nature and

personal adventurous experiences for my latest bronze
sculptures. My goal is to create strong geometric forms
that incorporate polished stainless steel juxtaposed
against a coarse, corrugated texture. I am moving away
from the functional pieces towards decorative sculpture
in an effort to do additional, massive, public placements
in sculpture gardens and parks. My pieces can be scaled
up to fit any room, landscape or monumental corporate
setting. I hope that you enjoy looking at them as much
as I have enjoyed creating them.

reflect my vision of the world. From the natural world to
the family of man, I use my photography to capture lifes
special moments. Strolling in the streets of Manhattan, I
often see life through rose-tinted glasses while I dream
of a world filled with love and joy.

Tremblay is a photographer-artist who, as a result of extensive travels throughout the Middle

East, was able to offer an artistic archaeology of the Arab world. She began this journey with
explorations of Egypt and exhibited works both in Montreal and in Cairo, to celebrate the 50th
anniversary of diplomatic relations between Canada and Egypt. Throughout her career, Tremblay
exhibited in Montreal, New York, Paris, London, Tunis and Algiers.

MARLENE LUCE TREMBLAY

Today, while her passion for photography is being focused on the city where she now lives, Tremblay
brings to light the beauty of the natural world in conversation with the cityscape. After working only
in film photography for many years, she now uses digital photography to tint her images highlighting
the painterly aspect of her imagery.

RICHARD VAUX

Architectural Lightscape
Polymer on canvas. 66x30in.

Ashok Jain Gallery

The recent Visual Compositions of Richard Vaux are

an ongoing process. Searching for the harmonies and
balances in nature, the works parallel and emulate
natural phenomena. Archetypal Lightscape is a visual
poem about light and illumination, the visible and the
invisible.
