Could you give me your understanding about Robotic

In my opinion, Robot is a combination of mechanical structures, electronics

modules and programming. Robot can interact actively with its surrounding or it
could be controlled by human.
Talking about Robot, we always make a clear distinction between Industrial
Robots and Service Robots.
Industrial Robots work for manufacture purposes such as ABB robots, its working
is always repeated, but it can be re-programmable in order to deal with another
tasks. Because of industrial purposes, stable working feature is the most
important to Industrial Robots.
In recent years, we are paying more attention to Service Robots who serve
human life. For example, ABB is the most famous industrial robot company, but
they just introduce Yumi which can work as a Service Robot. Regarding to Service
Robots, they also can be distinguished between Personal Service Robots which
can work as our assistances at home. Those robots can work with various tasks
which related to human entertainment and human housework (Aibo_ a robot of
Sony is the best example, he can walk around your home, interact to humans
behavior) and Professional Purpose Robots who work for a specific task which
related to hardworking or dangerous tasks (To deal with Fukushima nuclear
disaster, robots were sent into nuclear reactor to get information). Instead of
paying attention to stable working feature as well as Industrial Robot, Personal
Service Robots are always produced with simple mechanical structures. To deal
with various tasks at our home, it must be an intelligent robot which can interact
actively with it surrounding. Moreover, it must be human-friendly robots which
are easy to control and absolutely safe for user.
Would you give me your understanding about an entertainment
quadruped robot.
Regarding Service Robots, it could be mobile or legged robots. In legged robot
field, it is also included biped robots (Usually we always concern in humanoid
robot such as ASIMO_ a product of Honda, Toyota Humanoid Robot. Sometimes, It
could be 2 legged animal robot such as Kangaroo robot_ a product of Festo)
Quadruped robots such as Aibo_ a product of Sony company, BigDog robot _ a
product of Boston Dynamics and multi legged robot.
There are several kinds of Personal Service Robots such as housework robots,
security robots and entertainment robots. In my opinion, Service Robots will play
essential role in human life in the near future.
In my recent projects, I pay attention to entertainment quadruped robot which
was considered as a pet robot for entertainment purpose at home such as
walking and dancing, interacting to human behaviors. The advantaged of legged
robot that is it can walk on different terrains instead of only walking in flat
ground as mobile robots. Quadruped robots create more stable triangle on its
walking, it can walking more stable than. Moreover, human-friendly feature plays

essential role in Service Robot. Entertainment quadruped robot which imitates

gait and behavior of dog pet is the suitable choice for further researches.

Why do you choose JAIST for studying Master course

My major is Mechatronics, so I have more opportunity to research on Robotics. I
deeply respect Japan for what they have done in this filed. Especially, my final
project was inspired by Aibo robot_ an outstanding product from this country. I
know clearly that Japan is really famous for robotics, so I strongly believe this
would be the best destination for my education pathway.
JAIST is the famous research institute in Japan which concentrates on graduate
and post graduate programs with the large number of laboratories. JAIST
encourages for further researches and publications based on the variety of
research foundations and scholarships. Having said that, Bachelor degree and
the next 2 years for this Master degree is just the first steps on my education
path. I am still ambitious in exploring higher education about Robotics. I tend to
think that JAIST not only my choice for Master course but also for further
degrees. The high percentage of international Professors and students at JAIST
also impact on my choice. With the Master course at JAIST, I will have more
opportunity to study with out-standing Professors and students on around the
world.
