OWNER’S MANUAL
Thank you for purchasing the dashboard TRIP COMPUTER TC-6 designed
for the Škoda Felicia.

This compact device, which can be perfectly integrated into the car’s interior,
will become your indispensable assistant and guide. It will inform you of the
current as well total fuel consumption, average speed, journey time,
kilometres remaining until the tank is empty and the exact fuel level in the
tank. The built-in digital voltmeter enables you to check the state of the
battery and how it is recharging. You will also know the outdoor air
temperature (measured close to the road surface). Automatic signalling can
be activated as an option which will prompt you to monitor the external
temperature more frequently when it drops close to freezing.

The TC-6 is equipped with an audio indicator, illuminated display and an

independent memory preserving all data. In spite of the volume of data the
computer provides, operation is very easy and well arranged thanks to the
sophisticated control system.

Even though the TRIP COMPUTER TC-6 has been carefully adjusted in the
factory, some constants can be modified in order to achieve maximum
accuracy.

Please read this owner’s manual carefully prior to use. It will help you to
understand all its functions and how to use them. Keep this manual in a
safe place for further reference.

We wish you many happy kilometres with the TRIP COMPUTER TC-6!

CONTROLS & FUNCTIONS 2

Control button

Main functions
Controlling the TRIP COMPUTER is simple despite the volume of data it
provides. All the functions are controlled by a single button located below the
display. All six main functions are called up in rotation by repeated pressing
of the button. The control button is divided into two (left & right-hand) sides.
By pressing the right-hand side you can switch forward one function while
the left-hand side serves to switch one function back.

Second-level functions
Other TRIP COMPUTER functions are designed as second-level functions
which can be called up by pressing and holding down the control button for
at least two seconds, regardless of the part of the button pressed. The
second-level functions are used very rarely. The computer is normally
controlled by main functions during standard operation.

Audio indicator
The pressing of each button is accompanied by a short beep, unless the
audio indicator is switched off. Another beep is generated when the button
is pressed and held down for 2 seconds indicating switching over to a
second level function.

Last function memory

When the car’s ignition is switched on, the computer displays the function
which was used last before the ignition was switched off at the end of the
previous journey. Function changes made with the ignition off are not stored
in the memory.

Displayed data

Current fuel consumption

Displaying the current fuel consumption works in two modes, depending on
the current speed. The current consumption in litres per hour (l/h) is
displayed at speeds of up to 32 km/h and in litres per 100 kilometres
(l/100km) at speeds over 32 km/h. The value is displayed with an accuracy
of one decimal place at the rate of 0.0 - 70.0 l/h or l/100km.

NOTE:
The consumption of an idling engine is approximately 0.8 l/h. The
consumption of a running car can vary within a wide range: from 0.0
l/100km while running downhill and not in gear to 50 l/100km during heavy
acceleration while fully loaded.
CONTROLS & FUNCTIONS 4

CURRENT CONSUMPTION
SPEED < 32 km/h SPEED ≥ 32 km/h

Total consumption (TC-6)

The total consumption can be displayed by pressing and holding down the
control button in the CURRENT CONSUMPTION function mode. The total
consumption accumulates from the last resetting. The range of values
displayed is 0.0 - 199.9 litres with an accuracy of 0.1 litre. Exceeding the top
limit value resets the counter and the computer starts counting again from
zero. This information is useful for example for checking the accuracy of fuel
consumption measurement and the subsequent calculation of possible
corrections during computer adjustment (see chapter SETUP - Flow meter
correction). You can reset the function by pressing and holding down the
control button with TOTAL CONSUMPTION displayed. The AVERAGE
CONSUMPTION function is also reset.

TOTAL CONSUMPTION Units: litres

Total consumption (TC-6P)

The total consumption can be displayed by pressing and holding down the
control button in the CURRENT CONSUMPTION function mode. The total
consumption accumulates from the day of the computer’s manufacture and
CONTROLS & FUNCTIONS 5

cannot be reset. The range of values displayed is 0.0 - 68000.0 litres with an
accuracy of 0.1 litre. Exceeding the top limit value resets the counter and
the computer starts counting again from zero. This information is useful for
example for checking the accuracy of fuel consumption measurement and
the subsequent calculation of possible corrections during computer
adjustment (see chapter SETUP - Flow meter correction).

Displaying this value is done in two phases: the first phase displays the litres
for 6 seconds and the second phase displays hundreds of litres for 2
seconds. Both phases alternate.

TOTAL CONSUMPTION (example 2685.3 litres)

Phase 1 Units: litres Phase 2 Units: 100 litres

Average consumption
The average consumption is calculated continuously from the last resetting.
If you do not reset the computer manually it resets automatically after driving
16 000 km. At the same time the TRIP COMPUTER switches into the mode
displaying average consumption. Manual resetting is done by the means of
pressing and holding down the control button with the AVERAGE
CONSUMPTION displayed. The average consumption starts to be
calculated after driving 250 metres.

The average consumption is displayed with an accuracy of 1 decimal place.

The displayed value can be changed to two decimal places (see chapter
SETUP - Displaying average consumption) which does not mean any
change in the accuracy but can be found useful while monitoring
consumption changes during a long trip.

AVERAGE CONSUMPTION Units: litres/100km

CONTROLS & FUNCTIONS 6

NOTE:
At the moment of resetting average consumption, the selected engine type
is displayed for a short time. This enables you to verify whether the proper
type of the engine has been selected (see chapter SETUP - Selecting the
engine type).

Average speed
The average speed is calculated from the journey length and the time for
which the ignition has been on. The calculation is carried out continuously
from the moment of resetting. If you do not reset this function manually, the
computer resets it when 16 000 km have been driven. At the same time the
TRIP COMPUTER switches to the average speed display mode. The
average speed is displayed with a resolution of one decimal place.

AVERAGE SPEED Units: km/h

You can reset the function by pressing and holding down the control button
with AVERAGE SPEED displayed.

Kilometres remaining
CONTROLS & FUNCTIONS 7

This number tells you how far you can drive with the fuel remaining in your
tank. The number is calculated from the fuel level and the average fuel
consumption over the last 50 kilometres. When fuel level drops below 8
litres and the fuel level indicator stops working properly, the amount of fuel in
the tank is calculated according to consumption actually measured.

Once the tank is refilled, the new value is displayed after 30 seconds. This
delay can be longer in some specific cases (if you add a small amount of
fuel, for example).

KILOMETRES REMAINING Units: km

If the number of kilometres remaining falls down below 50 kilometres, a

double beep will sound and kilometres remaining will be displayed. The
pump will be blinking. Press the control button to stop blinking and restore
the previously selected function. This warning is repeated every time you
start the engine running with less than 50 kilometres remaining.

NOTE:
The displayed value of kilometres remaining can be changed by adjusting
driving style. For example, if you slow down considerably, the number of
kilometres remaining can even increase.

Fuel level
This piece of information can be displayed by pressing and holding down the
control button with KILOMETRES REMAINING displayed. This value is
similar to the one shown by the standard analogue fuel meter but its
accuracy is one decilitre in the whole range of the tank’s capacity.
CONTROLS & FUNCTIONS 8

The information for filling the tank given in the KILOMETRES REMAINING
section is also valid here.

FUEL LEVEL Units: litres

NOTE:
The computer shows “E“ instead of the fuel level when first installed in the
car. The proper value appears after 30 seconds.

Journey time
The TRIP COMPUTER monitors the whole time of uninterrupted driving and
signals the need for a safety break. It displays the time during which the
ignition has been continuously on. Breaks shorter than 10 minutes are
ignored.

JOURNEY TIME Displayed as: HH.MM where HH = hours

MM = minutes

The driver is notified of the need to take a break after 2 hours of continuous
driving. The journey time is displayed with the car symbol blinking. Press the
control button to stop blinking and restore the previously selected function.
This warning repeats after each subsequent two hours driven until you take
a break longer than 10 minutes.
CONTROLS & FUNCTIONS 9

Outdoor temperature
The outdoor temperature in the area close to the road surface is detected by
a sensor located in the left side of the front bumper. The temperature is
displayed in °C with an accuracy of 0.5°C.

OUTDOOR TEMPERATURE Units: °C

NOTE:
If the car is standing with warmed-up engine, the display of increasing
outdoor temperature is blocked.

Dashboard voltage
The digital voltmeter can be selected by pressing and holding down the
control button with the outdoor temperature displayed. The voltmeter
measures the voltage of the car’s electrical network at terminal No. 15 from
which the computer is powered. The displayed value is in Volts with an
accuracy of 0.1 V.

DASHBOARD VOLTAGE Units: Volts

CONTROLS & FUNCTIONS 10

NOTE:
If the engine is running, the dashboard voltage should remain between
13.2 and 14.2 Volts. The exact value depends on the engine speed, state
of the accumulator and the total consumption of all electrical devices
switched on. If the voltage drops below 13 Volts the accumulator is not
charged sufficiently. If the voltage exceeds 14.5 Volts the accumulator is
being overcharged.

The voltage of the accumulator itself, which can be read while the engine
is off, depends on the charge. After several hours of the engine being off,
this voltage stabilises between approximately 12.0 V (accumulator almost
empty) and 12.6 V (accumulator fully charged).

The voltage should not drop below 8 V even after long-term running of the
engine.

OUTDOOR TEMPERATURE Signalling

The OUTDOOR TEMPERATURE signalling can be switched on at the time

of installation (see chapter SETUP - OUTDOOR TEMPERATURE
Signalling). This function activates whenever the outdoor temperature drops
below +3°C. Its purpose is to notify you of the ne ed to watch the outdoor
temperature. Two short beeps are generated and a warning triangle
displayed. If the temperature drops below +3°C and the audio indicator is
off, a blinking triangle and a thermometer are displayed. Press the control
button to make the display stop blinking. The warning triangle stays
displayed.

OUTDOOR TEMPERATURE SIGNALLING

CONTROLS & FUNCTIONS 11

WARNING:
Icing can occur on the road even with a displayed temperature higher than
0°C, due to a different road surface temperature!

Audio Signalling

Each pressing of the control button is accompanied by a short beep. When

you press and hold the button down, this signal confirms switching to a
second-level function.

Two short beeps indicate a drop in outdoor temperature below +3°C. If the
temperature was lower than +3°C before you started the car, two short
beeps are generated as soon as you switch the ignition on.

Two short beeps indicate a drop in kilometres remaining below 50 km.

Switching off the audio signalling

All the audio signalling can be switched off by pressing and holding down the
control button with the JOURNEY TIME displayed. This function works as a
toggle between on and off, i.e. you can activate the function the same way.
SETUP 12

NOTE:
The device has been set up in the factory and during installation in your
car. This chapter is to assist service personnel. Any incorrect manipulation
of the correction button can result in wrong measurements!

Correction button

The correction button is located on the rear cover of the device at the black
connector for the main bunch of cables (marked with an arrow and the
letters “CORR.“).

The TRIP COMPUTER can be switched to the setup mode by pressing and
holding down (2 seconds) the correction button. The display shows engine
type and a blinking symbol of a car. All the setup constants can be called up
by repeated rapid clicks of the correction button. Their values can be

SETUP 13

changed by the control button: pressing the right-hand side (+) increases the
value and the left-hand side (-) decreases it.

The SETUP mode can be exited at any moment by pressing and holding
down the correction button. This also writes all the entered changes into the
memory.

Keying in the access code (TC-6P only)

Entering the SETUP mode

The setup constants can be accessed only when the correct code is keyed
in for the TC-6P type. Pressing and holding down the correction button does
not cause a direct change in the mode but prompts you to key in a three digit
code. The display shows a COD message for a moment followed by the
number 000 with the left digit blinking. You can key the code in by the
control button. Pressing the right-hand side of it increases the value by 1
and vice versa. Moving to the next digit is done by the means of a rapid
click of the correction button. When you key all three digits in and confirm
them by a rapid click of the correction button the computer switches to the
SETUP mode. If the wrong code was keyed in the computer switches to the
normal mode.

Exiting the SETUP mode

The SETUP mode can be exited at any moment by pressing and holding
down the correction button. As when entering the SETUP mode the COD
message is displayed shortly followed by the active access code. At this
moment the code can be changed (as when you first keyed it in). If you do
not want to change it, confirm its individual digits by three rapid clicks of the
correction button. By this you exit the SETUP mode and store all the keyed
in changes in the memory (including the possible change of the code).

NOTE:
The access code has been set up as 000 in the factory. If you key in
your own code, record it carefully and store the record in a safe place. In
case of loss of the code the manufacturer would have to replace the
code memory.
SETUP 14

Engine type selection

The engine type and a blinking car symbol is displayed upon entering the
SETUP mode. The table that follows specifies the engine type:

Set the desired engine type by pressing the control button.

ENGINE TYPE SELECTION

NOTE:
The set up engine type can be verified also in the normal mode in the
AVERAGE CONSUMPTION function. When you reset the average
consumption, the display briefly shows the currently set up engine type.

NOTE:
The changes in the setup take effect only after switching the ignition off
and on again.
The set up engine type must correspond with the information on the label
of the flow meter sensor.
SETUP 15

Flow meter correction

The required correction can be achieved using the TOTAL CONSUMPTION
function. Fill the tank up and record or reset (TC-6 only) the TRIP
COMPUTER reading of the total consumption. At the next filling, fill the tank
up again and determine the percentage difference between the amount of
the purchased fuel and the value of the total consumption registered by the
TRIP COMPUTER since the last tank filling up.

There are two possibilities:

1. If the total consumption registered by the TRIP COMPUTER since the

last tank filling up is higher than the amount of the purchased fuel,
reduce the original flow meter correction value by the discovered
percentage difference.
2. If the total consumption registered by the TRIP COMPUTER since the
last tank filling up is lower than the amount of the purchased fuel,
increase the original flow meter correction value by the discovered
percentage difference.

The flow meter correction can be done by the control button in steps of 1%
within the range from -8% to +7%.

FLOW METER CORRECTION Units: %

NOTE:
It is generally true for correcting the flow meter that the more fuel you use
for the correction, the more accurate the result is. Considering the
possible inaccuracy of filling up the tank, it is recommended to calculate
the correction twice and only then to set up the value.
NOTE:
The keyed-in changes take effect only after switching the ignition off and
on again.
SETUP 16

Fuel level indicator correction

Correction of the FUEL LEVEL enables you to increase its accuracy,

especially in the range of readings close to zero.

Correcting the fuel level indicator

The fuel level indicator cannot be corrected by using up all the fuel in the
tank. The car producer does not allow this, due to the danger of damage to
the catalytic converter which can occur as a result of irregular fuel supply to
the engine. Check the FUEL LEVEL reading at the moment when the yellow
signal light for lack of fuel on your dashboard switches on permanently while
you are driving on a level road at a constant speed. The FUEL LEVEL
reading should be between 5.0 and 6.0 litres.

There are two possibilities:

1. If the FUEL LEVEL is higher than 6.0, reduce the original fuel level
indicator correction value by the discovered difference.
2. If the FUEL LEVEL is lower than 5.0, increase the original fuel level
indicator correction value by the discovered difference.

The fuel level indicator correction can be adjusted by the control button in
0.5 litre steps in the range from -4.0 l to +3.5 l.

FUEL METER CORRECTION Units: litres

NOTE:
The keyed-in change will take effect only after filling with at least 5 litres
of fuel.
SETUP 17

Outdoor thermometer correction

The outdoor thermometer correction value has been set up in the factory
and should be changed only in special cases such as when the sensor is
replaced.

The correction can be changed by the control button in steps of 0.5°C in the
range -4.0°C to +3.5°C.

OUTDOOR THERMOMETER CORRECTION Units: °C

Voltmeter correction

This correction is set up in the factory and should not be changed.

VOLTMETER CORRECTION Units: Volts

SETUP 18

Displaying the average consumption

If you want to monitor the average consumption during a long journey, it is

advantageous to display the value to two decimal places. The average
consumption display mode can be changed via the control button.

DISPLAYING AVERAGE CONSUMPTION

1 decimal place 2 decimal places

The two-decimal-place display takes effect only when at least 4 km have

been driven following resetting of the average consumption.

NOTE:
The two-decimal-place display does not reflect the accuracy in
measuring average consumption.

OUTDOOR TEMPERATURE Signalling

The OUTDOOR TEMPERATURE signalling can be switched on by pressing

the right-hand side of the control button. This function activates when the
temperature drops below +3°C and notifies you of th e need to monitor the
external temperature more closely. Signalling can be switched off by
pressing the left-hand side of the control button. The signalling state is
displayed by an on or off message.
SETUP 19

OUTDOOR TEMPERATURE SIGNALLING

Fuel level meter selection

Vehicles produced in February 1996 or later are equipped with fuel level
meters with modified characteristics. In order to assure accuracy of the
displayed KILOMETRES REMAINING and FUEL LEVEL readings it is
necessary to set up the fuel level indicator type according to the production
date when installing the TRIP COMPUTER in the car. This is done via the
control button. Select the F95 value for vehicles manufactured up to January
1996 and F96 for vehicles manufactured in February 96 or later. The latter
selection corresponds with fuel level meters with production numbers
441.0.4319/165.6 or higher (printed on the top cover of the fuel pump on the
tank which is accessible after folding forward the rear seats.)
